John 2 [NIV:NASB]

  1. On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,
  2. and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
  3. When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine."
  4. "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come."
  5. His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
  1. On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there;
  2. and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.
  3. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, "They have no wine."
  4. And Jesus said to her, "Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come."
  5. His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it."

  1. Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
  2. Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.
  3. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so,
  4. and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside
  5. and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."
  1. Now there were six stone waterpots set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing twenty or thirty gallons each.
  2. Jesus said to them, "Fill the waterpots with water." So they filled them up to the brim.
  3. And He said to them, "Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter." So they took it to him.
  4. When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom,
  5. and said to him, "Every man serves the good wine first, and when the people have drunk freely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now."

  1. This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.
  2. After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.
  3. When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
  4. In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money.
  5. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.
  1. This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.
  2. After this He went down to Capernaum, He and His mother and His brothers and His disciples; and they stayed there a few days.
  3. The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
  4. And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables.
  5. And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables;

  1. To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!"
  2. His disciples remembered that it is written: "Zeal for your house will consume me."
  3. Then the Jews demanded of him, "What miraculous sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?"
  4. Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days."
  5. The Jews replied, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?"
  1. and to those who were selling the doves He said, "Take these things away; stop making My Father's house a place of business."
  2. His disciples remembered that it was written, "ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME."
  3. The Jews then said to Him, "What sign do You show us as your authority for doing these things?"
  4. Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
  5. The Jews then said, "It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?"

  1. But the temple he had spoken of was his body.
  2. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.
  3. Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the miraculous signs he was doing and believed in his name.
  4. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men.
  5. He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man.
  1. But He was speaking of the temple of His body.
  2. So when He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.
  3. Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name, observing His signs which He was doing.
  4. But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men,
  5. and because He did not need anyone to testify concerning man, for He Himself knew what was in man.
