John 12 [KJV:NASB]

  1. Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
  2. There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
  3. Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
  4. Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,
  5. Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
  1. Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
  2. So they made Him a supper there, and Martha was serving; but Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him.
  3. Mary then took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
  4. But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was intending to betray Him, said,
  5. "Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to poor people?"

  1. This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
  2. Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
  3. For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
  4. Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
  5. But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
  1. Now he said this, not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box, he used to pilfer what was put into it.
  2. Therefore Jesus said, "Let her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of My burial.
  3. "For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me."
  4. The large crowd of the Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead.
  5. But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also;

  1. Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
  2. On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
  3. Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
  4. And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
  5. Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.
  1. because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus.
  2. On the next day the large crowd who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
  3. took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, "Hosanna! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, even the King of Israel."
  4. Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written,
  5. "FEAR NOT, DAUGHTER OF ZION; BEHOLD, YOUR KING IS COMING, SEATED ON A DONKEY'S COLT."

  1. These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
  2. The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
  3. For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
  4. The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
  5. And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
  1. These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things to Him.
  2. So the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him.
  3. For this reason also the people went and met Him, because they heard that He had performed this sign.
  4. So the Pharisees said to one another, "You see that you are not doing any good; look, the world has gone after Him."
  5. Now there were some Greeks among those who were going up to worship at the feast;

  1. The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
  2. Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
  3. And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
  4. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
  5. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
  1. these then came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and began to ask him, saying, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus."
  2. Philip came and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip came and told Jesus.
  3. And Jesus answered them, saying, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
  4. "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
  5. "He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.

  1. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
  2. Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
  3. Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
  4. The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
  5. Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
  1. "If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.
  2. "Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, 'Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this purpose I came to this hour.
  3. "Father, glorify Your name " Then a voice came out of heaven: "I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again."
  4. So the crowd of people who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered; others were saying, "An angel has spoken to Him."
  5. Jesus answered and said, "This voice has not come for My sake, but for your sakes.

  1. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
  2. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
  3. This he said, signifying what death he should die.
  4. The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
  5. Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
  1. "Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
  2. "And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself."
  3. But He was saying this to indicate the kind of death by which He was to die.
  4. The crowd then answered Him, "We have heard out of the Law that the Christ is to remain forever; and how can You say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this Son of Man?"
  5. So Jesus said to them, "For a little while longer the Light is among you Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes.

  1. While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
  2. But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
  3. That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
  4. Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
  5. He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
  1. "While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light " These things Jesus spoke, and He went away and hid Himself from them.
  2. But though He had performed so many signs before them, yet they were not believing in Him.
  3. This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet which he spoke: "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT? AND TO WHOM HAS THE ARM OF THE LORD BEEN REVEALED?"
  4. For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again,
  5. "HE HAS BLINDED THEIR EYES AND HE HARDENED THEIR HEART, SO THAT THEY WOULD NOT SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND PERCEIVE WITH THEIR HEART, AND BE CONVERTED AND I HEAL THEM."

  1. These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
  2. Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
  3. For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
  4. Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
  5. And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
  1. These things Isaiah said because he saw His glory, and he spoke of Him.
  2. Nevertheless many even of the rulers believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue;
  3. for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God.
  4. And Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me.
  5. "He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me.

  1. I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
  2. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
  3. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
  4. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
  5. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
  1. "I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.
  2. "If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
  3. "He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.
  4. "For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak.
  5. "I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me."
