John 19 [KJV:NASB]

  1. Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.
  2. And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,
  3. And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.
  4. Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.
  5. Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!
  1. Pilate then took Jesus and scourged Him.
  2. And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and put a purple robe on Him;
  3. and they began to come up to Him and say, "Hail, King of the Jews!" and to give Him slaps in the face.
  4. Pilate came out again and said to them, "Behold, I am bringing Him out to you so that you may know that I find no guilt in Him."
  5. Jesus then came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, "Behold, the Man!"

  1. When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
  2. The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
  3. When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;
  4. And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
  5. Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
  1. So when the chief priests and the officers saw Him, they cried out saying, "Crucify, crucify!" Pilate said to them, "Take Him yourselves and crucify Him, for I find no guilt in Him."
  2. The Jews answered him, "We have a law, and by that law He ought to die because He made Himself out to be the Son of God."
  3. Therefore when Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid;
  4. and he entered into the Praetorium again and said to Jesus, "Where are You from?" But Jesus gave him no answer.
  5. So Pilate said to Him, "You do not speak to me? Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?"

  1. Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
  2. And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.
  3. When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.
  4. And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
  5. But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.
  1. Jesus answered, "You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin."
  2. As a result of this Pilate made efforts to release Him, but the Jews cried out saying, "If you release this Man, you are no friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar."
  3. Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
  4. Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour And he said to the Jews, "Behold, your King!"
  5. So they cried out, "Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."

  1. Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
  2. And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
  3. Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
  4. And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
  5. This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.
  1. So he then handed Him over to them to be crucified.
  2. They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.
  3. There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between.
  4. Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, "JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS."
  5. Therefore many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Latin and in Greek.

  1. Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.
  2. Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.
  3. Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
  4. They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.
  5. Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
  1. So the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, "Do not write, 'The King of the Jews'; but that He said, 'I am King of the Jews.'"
  2. Pilate answered, "What I have written I have written."
  3. Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer garments and made four parts, a part to every soldier and also the tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece.
  4. So they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be"; this was to fulfill the Scripture: "THEY DIVIDED MY OUTER GARMENTS AMONG THEM, AND FOR MY CLOTHING THEY CAST LOTS."
  5. Therefore the soldiers did these things. But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

  1. When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
  2. Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
  3. After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
  4. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
  5. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
  1. When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold, your son!"
  2. Then He said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" From that hour the disciple took her into his own household.
  3. After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, to fulfill the Scripture, said, "I am thirsty."
  4. A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth.
  5. Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

  1. The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
  2. Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
  3. But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
  4. But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
  5. And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
  1. Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
  2. So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who was crucified with Him;
  3. but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.
  4. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
  5. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe.

  1. For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
  2. And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
  3. And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
  4. And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
  5. Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
  1. For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture, "NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE BROKEN."
  2. And again another Scripture says, "THEY SHALL LOOK ON HIM WHOM THEY PIERCED."
  3. After these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a secret one for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body.
  4. Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds weight.
  5. So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.

  1. Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
  2. There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
  1. Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid.
  2. Therefore because of the Jewish day of preparation, since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
