Deuteronomy 23 [KJV:NIV]

  1. He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
  2. A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
  3. An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:
  4. Because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee.
  5. Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee.
  1. No one who has been emasculated by crushing or cutting may enter the assembly of the LORD.
  2. No one born of a forbidden marriage nor any of his descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, even down to the tenth generation.
  3. No Ammonite or Moabite or any of his descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, even down to the tenth generation.
  4. For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim to pronounce a curse on you.
  5. However, the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you.

  1. Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy days for ever.
  2. Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land.
  3. The children that are begotten of them shall enter into the congregation of the LORD in their third generation.
  4. When the host goeth forth against thine enemies, then keep thee from every wicked thing.
  5. If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of uncleanness that chanceth him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp:
  1. Do not seek a treaty of friendship with them as long as you live.
  2. Do not abhor an Edomite, for he is your brother. Do not abhor an Egyptian, because you lived as an alien in his country.
  3. The third generation of children born to them may enter the assembly of the LORD.
  4. When you are encamped against your enemies, keep away from everything impure.
  5. If one of your men is unclean because of a nocturnal emission, he is to go outside the camp and stay there.

  1. But it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall wash himself with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again.
  2. Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad:
  3. And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee:
  4. For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.
  5. Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is escaped from his master unto thee:
  1. But as evening approaches he is to wash himself, and at sunset he may return to the camp.
  2. Designate a place outside the camp where you can go to relieve yourself.
  3. As part of your equipment have something to dig with, and when you relieve yourself, dig a hole and cover up your excrement.
  4. For the LORD your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you.
  5. If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand him over to his master.

  1. He shall dwell with thee, even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not oppress him.
  2. There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.
  3. Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
  4. Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury:
  5. Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
  1. Let him live among you wherever he likes and in whatever town he chooses. Do not oppress him.
  2. No Israelite man or woman is to become a shrine prostitute.
  3. You must not bring the earnings of a female prostitute or of a male prostitute into the house of the LORD your God to pay any vow, because the LORD your God detests them both.
  4. Do not charge your brother interest, whether on money or food or anything else that may earn interest.
  5. You may charge a foreigner interest, but not a brother Israelite, so that the LORD your God may bless you in everything you put your hand to in the land you are entering to possess.

  1. When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.
  2. But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee.
  3. That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; even a freewill offering, according as thou hast vowed unto the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth.
  4. When thou comest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel.
  5. When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour's standing corn.
  1. If you make a vow to the LORD your God, do not be slow to pay it, for the LORD your God will certainly demand it of you and you will be guilty of sin.
  2. But if you refrain from making a vow, you will not be guilty.
  3. Whatever your lips utter you must be sure to do, because you made your vow freely to the LORD your God with your own mouth.
  4. If you enter your neighbor's vineyard, you may eat all the grapes you want, but do not put any in your basket.
  5. If you enter your neighbor's grainfield, you may pick kernels with your hands, but you must not put a sickle to his standing grain.
