  1. And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.
  2. And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?
  3. And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him;
  4. How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?
  5. And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
  1. One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels.
  2. Some of the Pharisees asked, "Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?"
  3. Jesus answered them, "Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?
  4. He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions."
  5. Then Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."
 
 
  1. And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
  2. And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.
  3. But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.
  4. Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
  5. And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
  1. On another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled.
  2. The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath.
  3. But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, "Get up and stand in front of everyone." So he got up and stood there.
  4. Then Jesus said to them, "I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?"
  5. He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He did so, and his hand was completely restored.
 
 
  1. And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.
  2. And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
  3. And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
  4. Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
  5. Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,
  1. But they were furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.
  2. One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
  3. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:
  4. Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,
  5. Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot,
 
 
  1. And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.
  2. And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;
  3. And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
  4. And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.
  5. And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
  1. Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
  2. He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coast of Tyre and Sidon,
  3. who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by evil spirits were cured,
  4. and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.
  5. Looking at his disciples, he said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
 
 
  1. Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
  2. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
  3. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
  4. But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.
  5. Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.
  1. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
  2. Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
  3. "Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their fathers treated the prophets.
  4. "But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.
  5. Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.
 
 
  1. Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
  2. But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
  3. Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
  4. And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.
  5. Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.
  1. Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.
  2. "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
  3. bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
  4. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic.
  5. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.
 
 
  1. And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
  2. For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
  3. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.
  4. And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
  5. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
  1. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
  2. "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them.
  3. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do that.
  4. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,' expecting to be repaid in full.
  5. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
 
 
  1. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
  2. Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
  3. Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
  4. And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?
  5. The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
  1. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
  2. "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
  3. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
  4. He also told them this parable: "Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit?
  5. A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.
 
 
  1. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
  2. Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.
  3. For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
  4. For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
  5. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
  1. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
  2. How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
  3. "No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.
  4. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers.
  5. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.
 
 
  1. And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
  2. Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
  3. He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
  4. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
  1. "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?
  2. I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice.
  3. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.
  4. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."
