마태복음 13:44-14:12

 예수님께서는 감추인 보화와 진주와 그물의 비유를 통해 천국을 가르치셨다. 그 후 고향 나사렛에 가셨으나 나사렛 사람들은 예수님을 배척했다. 한편 세례 요한은 헤롯의 경솔한 맹세와 헤로디아의 간계에 의해 순교당했다.
  
  나사렛 사람들의 배척(13:44-13:58)    
 
  1. "하늘 나라는 밭에 묻혀 있는 보물에 비길 수 있다. 그 보물을 찾아낸 사람은 그것을 다시 묻어두고 기뻐하며 돌아가서 있는 것을 다 팔아 그 밭을 산다."
  2. "또 하늘 나라는 어떤 장사꾼이 좋은 진주를 찾아다니는 것에 비길 수 있다.
  3. 그는 값진 진주를 하나 발견하면 돌아가서 있는 것을 다 팔아 그것을 산다."
  4. "또 하늘 나라는 바다에 그물을 쳐서 온갖 것을 끌어올리는 것에 비길 수 있다.
  5. 어부들은 그물이 가득 차면 해변에 끌어올려 놓고 앉아서 좋은 것은 추려 그릇에 담고 나쁜 것은 내버린다.
  1. "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
  2. "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
  3. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
  4. "Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.
  5. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.
  1. 세상 끝날에도 이와 같을 것이다. 천사들이 나타나 선한 사람들 사이에 끼여 있는 악한 자들을 가려내어
  2. 불구덩이에 처넣을 것이다. 그러면 거기서 그들은 가슴을 치며 통곡할 것이다."
  3. 예수께서 말씀을 마치시고 "지금 한 말을 다 알아 듣겠느냐?" 하고 물으셨다. 제자들은 "예." 하고 대답하였다.
  4. 예수께서는 이렇게 말씀을 맺으셨다. "그러므로 하늘 나라의 교육을 받은 율법학자는 마치 자기 곳간에서 새 것도 꺼내고 낡은 것도 꺼내는 집주인과 같다."
  5. 예수께서는 이 비유들을 다 말씀하시고 나서 그 곳을 떠나
  1. This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
  2. and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
  3. "Have you understood all these things?" Jesus asked. "Yes," they replied.
  4. He said to them, "Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old."
  5. When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there.
  1. 고향으로 가셔서 회당에서 가르치셨다. 사람들은 놀라며 "저 사람이 저런 지혜와 능력을 어디서 받았을까?
  2. 저 사람은 그 목수의 아들이 아닌가? 어머니는 마리아요, 그 형제들은 야고보, 요셉, 시몬, 유다가 아닌가?
  3. 그리고 그의 누이들은 모두 우리 동네 사람들이 아닌가? 그런데 저런 모든 지혜와 능력이 어디서 생겼을까?" 하면서
  4. 예수를 도무지 믿으려 하지 않았다. 예수께서는 그들에게 "어디서나 존경을 받는 예언자도 제 고향과 제 집에서만은 존경을 받지 못한다." 하고 말씀하셨다.
  5. 그리고 그들이 믿지 않으므로 그 곳에서는 별로 기적을 베풀지 않으셨다.
  1. Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. "Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?" they asked.
  2. "Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?
  3. Aren't all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?"
  4. And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor."
  5. And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
 
  세례 요한의 죽음(14:1-14:12)    
 
  1. 그 무렵에 갈릴래아의 영주 헤로데 왕이 예수의 소문을 듣고
  2. 신하들에게 "그 사람이 바로 세례자 요한이다. 죽은 요한이 다시 살아난 것이 틀림없다. 그렇지 않고서야 그런 능력이 어디서 솟아나겠느냐?" 하고 말하였다.
  3. 일찍이 헤로데는 자기 동생 필립보의 아내 헤로디아의 일로 요한을 잡아 결박하여 감옥에 가둔 일이 있었는데
  4. 그것은 요한이 헤로데에게 그 여자를 데리고 사는 것은 옳은 일이 아니라고 거듭거듭 간하였기 때문이었다.
  5. 그래서 헤로데는 요한을 죽이려고 했으나 요한을 예언자로 여기고 있는 민중이 두려워서 뜻을 이루지 못하고 있었다.
  1. At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the reports about Jesus,
  2. and he said to his attendants, "This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead! That is why miraculous powers are at work in him."
  3. Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife,
  4. for John had been saying to him: "It is not lawful for you to have her."
  5. Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of the people, because they considered him a prophet.
  1. 그 무렵에 마침 헤로데의 생일이 돌아와서 잔치가 벌어졌는데 헤로디아의 딸이 잔치 손님들 앞에서 춤을 추어 헤로데를 매우 기쁘게 해주었다.
  2. 그래서 헤로데는 소녀에게 무엇이든지 청하는 대로 주겠다고 맹세하며 약속하였다.
  3. 그러자 소녀는 제 어미가 시키는 대로 "세례자 요한의 머리를 쟁반에 담아서 이리 가져다 주십시오." 하고 청하였다.
  4. 왕은 마음이 몹시 괴로웠지만 이미 맹세한 바도 있고 또 손님들이 보는 앞이어서 소녀의 청대로 해주라는 명령을 내리고
  5. 사람을 보내어 감옥에 있는 요한의 목을 베어 오게 하였다.
  1. On Herod's birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for them and pleased Herod so much
  2. that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.
  3. Prompted by her mother, she said, "Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist."
  4. The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he ordered that her request be granted
  5. and had John beheaded in the prison.
  1. 그리고 그 머리를 쟁반에 담아다가 소녀에게 건네자 소녀는 그것을 제 어미에게 갖다 주었다.
  2. 그 뒤 요한의 제자들이 와서 그 시체를 거두어다가 묻고 예수께 가서 알렸다.
  1. His head was brought in on a platter and given to the girl, who carried it to her mother.
  2. John's disciples came and took his body and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus.
