- 엿새 후에 예수께서는 베드로와 야고보와 야고보의 동생 요한만을 데리시고 따로 높은 산으로 올라가셨다.
- 그 때 예수의 모습이 그들 앞에서 변하여 얼굴은 해와 같이 빛나고 옷은 빛과 같이 눈부셨다.
- 그리고 난데없이 모세와 엘리야가 나타나서 예수와 함께 이야기하고 있었다.
- 그 때에 베드로가 나서서 예수께 "주님, 저희가 여기에서 지내면 얼마나 좋겠습니까! 괜찮으시다면 제가 여기에 초막 셋을 지어 하나는 주님께, 하나는 모세에게, 하나는 엘리야에게 드리겠습니다." 하고 말하였다.
- 베드로의 이 말이 채 끝나기도 전에 빛나는 구름이 그들을 덮더니 구름 속에서 "이는 내 사랑하는 아들, 내 마음에 드는 아들이니 너희는 그의 말을 들어라." 하는 소리가 들려왔다.

- After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
- There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.
- Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
- Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters--one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah."
- While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

- 이 소리를 듣고 제자들은 너무도 두려워서 땅에 엎드렸다.
- 예수께서 그들에게 가까이 오셔서 손으로 어루만지시며 "두려워하지 말고 모두 일어나라." 하고 말씀하셨다.
- 그들이 고개를 들고 쳐다보았을 때는 예수밖에 아무도 보이지 않았다.
- 예수께서 제자들과 함께 산에서 내려오시는 길에 "사람의 아들이 죽었다가 다시 살아날 때까지는 지금 본 것을 아무에게도 말하지 마라." 하고 단단히 당부하셨다.
- 그 때에 제자들이 "율법학자들은 엘리야가 먼저 와야 한다고 하는데 어떻게 된 일입니까?" 하고 물었다.

- When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified.
- But Jesus came and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid."
- When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
- As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, "Don't tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."
- The disciples asked him, "Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?"

- 예수께서는 "과연 엘리야가 와서 모든 준비를 갖추어놓을 것이다.
- 그런데 실상 엘리야는 벌써 왔다. 그러나 사람들이 그를 알아보지 못하고 제멋대로 다루었다. 사람의 아들도 이와 같이 그들에게 고난을 받을 것이다." 하고 대답하셨다.
- 그제야 비로소 제자들은 이것이 세례자 요한을 두고 하신 말씀인 줄을 깨달았다.

- Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things.
- But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands."
- Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.
