- 몸소 십자가를 지시고 성밖을 나가 히브리 말로 골고타라는 곳으로 향하셨다. 골고타라는 말은 해골산이란 뜻이다.
- 여기서 그들은 예수를 십자가에 못박았다. 그리고 다른 두 사람도 십자가에 달아 예수를 가운데로 하여 그 양쪽에 하나씩 세워놓았다.
- 빌라도가 명패를 써서 십자가 위에 붙였는데 거기에는 "유다인의 왕 나자렛 예수" 라고 씌어 있었다.
- 그 명패는 히브리 말과 라틴 말과 그리스 말로 적혀 있었다. 예수께서 십자가에 달리신 곳이 예루살렘에서 가깝기 때문에 많은 유다인들이 와서 그것을 읽어보았다.
- 유다인들의 대사제들은 빌라도에게 가서 "'유다인의 왕'이라 쓰지 말고 '자칭 유다인의 왕'이라고 써붙여야 합니다." 하고 말하였으나

- Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha).
- Here they crucified him, and with him two others--one on each side and Jesus in the middle.
- Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read:|sc JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
- Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek.
- The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, "Do not write 'The King of the Jews,' but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews."

- 빌라도는 "한번 썼으면 그만이다." 하고 거절하였다.
- 예수를 십자가에 못박아 단 병사들은 예수의 옷가지를 가져다가 네 몫으로 나누어서 한 몫씩 차지하였다. 그러나 속옷은 위에서 아래까지 혼솔 없이 통으로 짠 것이었으므로
- 그들은 의논 끝에 "이것은 찢지 말고 누구든 제비를 뽑아 차지하기로 하자." 하여 그대로 하였다. 이리하여 "그들은 내 겉옷을 나누어가지며 내 속옷을 놓고는 제비를 뽑았다." 하신 성서의 말씀이 이루어졌다.
- 예수의 십자가 밑에는 그 어머니와 이모와 글레오파의 아내 마리아와 막달라 여자 마리아가 서 있었다.
- 예수께서는 당신의 어머니와 그 곁에 서 있는 사랑하시는 제자를 보시고 먼저 어머니에게 "어머니, 이 사람이 어머니의 아들입니다." 하시고

- Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."
- When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.
- "Let's not tear it," they said to one another. "Let's decide by lot who will get it." This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said, "They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing." So this is what the soldiers did.
- Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
- When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son,"

- 그 제자에게는 "이분이 네 어머니시다." 하고 말씀하셨다. 이 때부터 그 제자는 마리아를 자기 집에 모셨다.
- 예수께서는 모든 것이 끝났음을 아시고 "목마르다." 하고 말씀하셨다. 이 말씀으로 성서의 예언이 이루어졌다.
- 마침 거기에는 신 포도주가 가득 담긴 그릇이 있었는데 사람들이 그 포도주를 해면에 담뿍 적셔서 히솝 풀대에 꿰어가지고 예수의 입에 대어드렸다.
- 예수께서는 신 포도주를 맛보신 다음 "이제 다 이루었다." 하시고 고개를 떨어뜨리시며 숨을 거두셨다.
- 그 날은 과월절 준비일이었다. 다음날 대축제일은 마침 안식일과 겹치게 되었으므로 유다인들은 안식일에 시체를 십자가에 그냥 두지 않으려고 빌라도에게 시체의 다리를 꺾어 치워달라고 청하였다.

- and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
- Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty."
- A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips.
- When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
- Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jews did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down.

- 그래서 병사들이 와서 예수와 함께 십자가에 달린 사람들의 다리를 차례로 꺾고
- 예수에게 가서는 이미 숨을 거두신 것을 보고 다리를 꺾는 대신
- 군인 하나가 창으로 그 옆구리를 찔렀다. 그러자 곧 거기에서 피와 물이 흘러 나왔다.
- 이것은 자기 눈으로 직접 본 사람의 증언이다. 그러므로 이 증언은 참되며, 이 증언을 하는 사람은 자기 말이 틀림없는 사실이라는 것을 잘 알고 있다. 그는 여러분도 믿게 하려고 이렇게 증언하는 것이다.
- 이렇게 해서 "그의 뼈는 하나도 부러지지 않을 것이다." 한 성서의 말씀이 이루어졌다.

- The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other.
- But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
- Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.
- The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe.
- These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken,"

- 그리고 성서의 다른 곳에는 "그들은 자기들이 찌른 사람을 보게 될 것이다."라는 기록도 있다.
- 그 뒤 아리마태아 사람 요셉이 빌라도에게 예수의 시체를 가져가게 하여달라고 청하였다. 그도 예수의 제자였지만 유다인들이 무서워서 그 사실을 숨기고 있었다. 빌라도의 허락을 받아 요셉은 가서 예수의 시체를 내렸다.
- 그리고 언젠가 밤에 예수를 찾아왔던 니고데모도 침향을 섞은 몰약을 백 근쯤 가지고 왔다.
- 이 두 사람은 예수의 시체를 모셔다가 유다인들의 장례 풍속대로 향료를 바르고 고운 베로 감았다.
- 예수께서 십자가에 못박히신 곳에는 동산이 있었는데 거기에는 아직 장사지낸 일이 없는 새 무덤이 하나 있었다.

- and, as another scripture says, "They will look on the one they have pierced."
- Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jews. With Pilate's permission, he came and took the body away.
- He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.
- Taking Jesus' body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.
- At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid.

- 그 날은 유다인들이 명절을 준비하는 날인데다가 그 무덤이 가까이 있었기 때문에 그들은 예수를 거기에 모셨다.

- Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
