요나

  본서는 요나의 니느웨 구원 사건을 통하여 이방인에게 미치는 하나님의 구원의 손길을 명확하게 보여 주고 있으며, 사흘 간 물고기의 뱃속에 갇힌 요나 사건을 통해서 예수님의 부활 사건을 예표하고 있다.

  요나는 니느웨 선교 소명을 받았으나 불순종하여 하나님을 피해 달아난다. 그러나 하나님의 섭리로 물고기에게 삼키우게 된다. 이에 요나는 회개하고 소명을 감당한다. 니느웨는 요나의 외침을 듣고 회개하여 심판을 면하게 된다. 그러자 이를 본 요나는 하나님께 불평하지만, 하나님께서는 그에게 박 넝쿨의 교훈을 통해 하나님은 만민의 하나님이심을 깨우쳐 주신다.

 

 

요나 1:1-4:11

 요나는 하나님의 말씀을 전하도록 니느웨로 보내심을 받았으나 순종치 않고 배를 타고 도망하였다. 그러나 하나님께서 풍랑을 보내셔서 파선하게 되자, 그는 자신의 죄를 고백하고 바다에 던져졌다. 큰 물고기에게 삼켜져 그 뱃속에서 3일 간 회개하고 구원받은 요나는 니느웨(TM)에서 회개를 외쳤다. 그러나 그들이 회개하고 구원받자 하나님께 화를 내며 불평하였다. 이에 하나님께서는 박 넝쿨을 통해 그를 교훈하셨다.
  
  요나 선지자(1:1-4:11)    
 
  1. 야훼의 말씀이 아미때의 아들 요나에게 내렸다.
  2. "어서 저 큰 도시 니느웨로 가서 그들의 죄악이 하늘에 사무쳤다고 외쳐라."
  3. 이 말씀을 받고도 요나는 야훼의 눈앞을 벗어나 다르싯으로 도망가려고 길을 떠나 요빠로 내려갔다. 거기서 다르싯으로 가는 배를 만나 배 삯을 내고 남들과 함께 배에 탔다. 야훼의 눈앞을 벗어날 셈이었다.
  4. 그런데 야훼께서 바다에 바람을 일으키셨다. 태풍이 거세게 몰아쳐 배가 깨어질 지경이 되자,
  5. 뱃사공들은 겁에 질려 저마다 저희의 신에게 부르짖으며 배를 가볍게 하려고 배 안에 있는 짐을 바다에 던지기까지 하였다. 그런데도 요나는 배 밑창에 내려가 누워 깊이 잠들어 있었다.
  1. The word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai:
  2. "Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me."
  3. But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD.
  4. Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up.
  5. All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.
  1. 선장이 와서 보고 야단쳤다. "이런 판국에 잠을 자다니! 너도 일어나 너의 신에게 부르짖어 보아라. 너의 신이 우리를 생각해서 행여나 살려주실지 아느냐?"
  2. 한편 사람들은 서로 의논 끝에 "누구 때문에 이런 변을 당하는지 알아야 하지 않겠느냐?" 하면서 제비를 뽑기로 하고, 제비를 뽑아보니 요나가 나왔다.
  3. 사람들이 요나에게 물었다. "네가 무슨 짓을 했기에 우리가 이런 변을 당하느냐? 말하여라. 너는 무슨 일을 하는 사람이냐? 어디에서 왔으며 고향과 국적은 어디냐?"
  4. 그가 대답했다. "나는 히브리 사람입니다. 하늘을 내시고, 바다와 육지를 만드신 하느님 야훼를 공경하는 사람입니다."
  5. 그리고 자기는 야훼의 눈앞을 벗어나 도망치는 몸이라고 말하였다. 그제야 사람들은 곡절을 알고 어찌하여 그런 일을 했느냐며 몹시 두려워하였다.
  1. The captain went to him and said, "How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us, and we will not perish."
  2. Then the sailors said to each other, "Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity." They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah.
  3. So they asked him, "Tell us, who is responsible for making all this trouble for us? What do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?"
  4. He answered, "I am a Hebrew and I worship the LORD, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the land."
  5. This terrified them and they asked, "What have you done?" (They knew he was running away from the LORD, because he had already told them so.)
  1. 바다는 거칠어져만 갔다. 그래서 사람들은 "바다를 잔잔하게 하려면 너를 어떻게 해야 좋겠느냐?" 하고 요나에게 물었다.
  2. 요나는 자기를 바다에 집어넣으라고 하면서 이렇게 말하였다. "그래야 바다가 잔잔해질 것입니다. 이렇게 무서운 태풍을 만난 것은 내 탓인 줄 압니다."
  3. 바다는 더욱더 기승을 부렸다. 사람들은 물결을 헤치고 육지로 되돌아가려고 애를 써보았으나 허사였다.
  4. 하는 수 없이 사람들은 야훼께 부르짖었다. "야훼님, 이 사람의 목숨을 희생시킨다고 우리를 멸하지는 마십시오. 우리에게 살인죄를 지우지 마십시오. 야훼께서 다 뜻이 있으시어 하시는 일 아니십니까?"
  5. 그리고 나서 요나를 바다에 집어 던지자, 성난 바다는 잔잔해졌다.
  1. The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him, "What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?"
  2. "Pick me up and throw me into the sea," he replied, "and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you."
  3. Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before.
  4. Then they cried to the LORD, "O LORD, please do not let us die for taking this man's life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you, O LORD, have done as you pleased."
  5. Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm.
  1. 이것을 보고 사람들은 몹시 두려운 생각이 들어 야훼께 제물을 잡아 바친 후에 다시 서원제물을 드리기로 하였다.
  1. At this the men greatly feared the LORD, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows to him.
  2. But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights.
 
 
  1. 야훼께서는 큰 물고기를 시켜 요나를 삼키게 하셨다. 요나는 사흘 밤낮을 고기 뱃속에 있었다.
  2. 요나가 그 물고기 뱃속에서 하느님 야훼께 기도를 올리니,
  3. 요나가 입을 열었다. "그 숨막히는 데서 부르짖었더니, 야훼께서 대답해 주셨습니다. 죽음의 뱃속에서 살려달라고 외쳤더니, 그 호소를 하느님께서 들어주셨습니다.
  4. 하느님께서 이 몸을 바닷속 깊이 던지셨습니다. 물결은 이 몸을 휩쌌습니다. 밀려오다 부서지는 하느님의 물결이 제 위에서 넘실거렸습니다.
  5. 하느님 눈앞에서 쫓겨난 몸, 하느님 계시는 성전 쪽으로는 두 번 다시 눈도 못 돌릴 줄 알았습니다.
  1. From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God.
  2. He said: "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry.
  3. You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me.
  4. I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.'
  5. The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.
  1. 물은 목까지 차 올랐고 깊은 바다는 이 몸을 휩쌌습니다. 머리는 갈대에 휘감겨
  2. 저 땅 밑 멧부리로 빠져 드는데, 땅은 빗장들을 영영 내려버렸습니다. 야훼, 나의 하느님, 하느님께서는 그 구렁에서 이 몸 살려내셨습니다.
  3. 정신이 가물가물하는데도 야훼님을 잊지 않고 빌었더니 그 기도가 하느님 계시는 거룩한 궁전에, 하느님 귀에 다다랐습니다.
  4. 헛된 우상을 섬기는 자들은 하느님을 저버리지만,
  5. 저만은 이 고마움을 아뢰며, 서원한 제물을 드리렵니다. 저를 구해 주실 이 야훼밖에 없습니다."
  1. To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O LORD my God.
  2. "When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.
  3. "Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.
  4. But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD."
  5. And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
  1. 야훼께서는 그 물고기에게 명령하여 요나를 뱉어내게 하셨다.
 
 
  1. 야훼의 말씀이 또다시 요나에게 내렸다.
  2. "어서 저 큰 도시 니느웨로 가 내가 일러준 말을 그대로 전하여라."
  3. 요나는 야훼의 말씀대로 곧 길을 떠나 니느웨로 갔다. 니느웨는 굉장히 큰 도시로서 돌아다니는 데 사흘이나 걸리는 곳이었다.
  4. 요나는 니느웨에 들어가 하루 동안 돌아다니며, "사십 일이 지나면 니느웨는 잿더미가 된다."고 외쳤다.
  5. 이 말에 니느웨 사람들은 하느님을 믿고 단식을 선포하였다. 높은 사람 낮은 사람 할 것 없이 모두 굵은 베 옷을 입고 단식하게 되었다.
  1. Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time:
  2. "Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you."
  3. Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very important city--a visit required three days.
  4. On the first day, Jonah started into the city. He proclaimed: "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned."
  5. The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.
  1. 이 소문을 듣고 니느웨 임금도 용상에서 일어나 어의를 굵은 베 옷으로 갈아입고 잿더미 위에 앉아 단식하였다.
  2. 그리고 대신들의 뜻을 모아 니느웨 시민들에게 아래와 같이 선포하였다. "사람이나 짐승, 소떼나 양떼 할 것 없이 무엇이든지 맛을 보아서는 안 된다. 먹지도 마시지도 마라.
  3. 사람뿐 아니라 짐승에게까지 굵은 베 옷을 입혀라. 그리고 하느님께 간절한 마음으로 부르짖어라. 권력을 잡았다고 해서 남을 못 살게 굴던 나쁜 행실은 모두 버려라.
  4. 하느님께서 노여움을 푸시고 우리를 멸하시려던 뜻을 돌이키실지 아느냐?"
  5. 이렇게 사람들이 못된 행실을 버리고 돌아서는 것을 보시고 하느님께서는 뜻을 돌이켜 그들에게 내리시려던 재앙을 거두시었다.
  1. When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust.
  2. Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh: "By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let any man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink.
  3. But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence.
  4. Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish."
  5. When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened.
 
 
  1. 요나는 잔뜩 화가 나서 퉁명스럽게
  2. 야훼께 기도했다. "야훼님, 제가 집을 떠나기 전에 이렇게 되리라고 하지 않았습니까? 그래서 저는 다르싯으로 도망치려 했던 것입니다. 저는 다 알고 있었습니다. 하느님께서 애처롭고 불쌍한 것을 그냥 보아 넘기지 못하시고 좀처럼 화를 내지 않으시며 사랑이 한없으시어, 악을 보고 벌하려 하시다가도 금방 뉘우치시는 분인 줄 어찌 몰랐겠습니까?
  3. 그러니 야훼님, 당장 이 목숨을 거두어주십시오. 이렇게 사느니 차라리 죽는 것이 낫겠습니다."
  4. "아니, 네가 어찌하여 그렇게 화를 내느냐?" 하고 야훼께서 타이르셨지만,
  5. 요나는 시내를 빠져 나가 동쪽으로 가서 앉았다. 거기에 초막을 치고 그 그늘에 앉아 이 도시가 장차 어찌 되는가 볼 심산이었다.
  1. But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry.
  2. He prayed to the LORD, "O LORD, is this not what I said when I was still at home? That is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.
  3. Now, O LORD, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live."
  4. But the LORD replied, "Have you any right to be angry?"
  5. Jonah went out and sat down at a place east of the city. There he made himself a shelter, sat in its shade and waited to see what would happen to the city.
  1. 그 때 하느님 야훼께서는 요나의 머리 위로 아주까리가 자라서 그늘을 드리워 더위를 면하게 해주셨다. 요나는 그 아주까리 덕분에 아주 기분이 좋았다.
  2. 이튿날 새벽에 하느님께서는 그 아주까리를 벌레가 쏠아 먹어 말라 죽게 하셨다.
  3. 그리고 해가 뜨자마자 뜨거운 열풍이 불어오게 하셨다. 더욱이 해마저 내리쬐자 요나는 기절할 지경이 되었다. 요나는 죽고만 싶어서 "이렇게 사느니, 차라리 죽는 것이 낫다."고 투덜거렸다.
  4. 하느님께서 요나를 타이르셨다. "아주까리가 죽었다고 이렇게까지 화를 내다니, 될 말이냐?" 요나가 대답했다. "어찌 화가 나지 않겠습니까? 화가 나서 죽겠습니다."
  5. 야훼께서 대답하셨다. "너는 이 아주까리가 자라는 데 아무 한 일도 없으면서 그것이 하루 사이에 자랐다가 밤 사이에 죽었다고 해서 그토록 아까워하느냐?
  1. Then the LORD God provided a vine and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the vine.
  2. But at dawn the next day God provided a worm, which chewed the vine so that it withered.
  3. When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on Jonah's head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said, "It would be better for me to die than to live."
  4. But God said to Jonah, "Do you have a right to be angry about the vine?" "I do," he said. "I am angry enough to die."
  5. But the LORD said, "You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight.
  1. 이 니느웨에는 앞뒤를 가리지 못하는 어린이만 해도 십이만이나 되고 가축도 많이 있다. 내가 어찌 이 큰 도시를 아끼지 않겠느냐?"
  1. But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?"
