- 만민들아 귀를 기울여라. 만백성아 이 말을 들어라.
- 낮은 사람 높은 사람, 부자도 가난한 사람도 모두 다 들어라.
- 내 마음의 생각은 슬기를 지녔고 내 입의 말에는 지혜가 담겼다.
- 내가 속담에 귀를 기울이고 수금을 뜯으며 수수께끼를 풀리라.
- 악을 꾸미는 자들이 나를 뒤쫓고 노려보아도 이 곤경에서 나 어찌 두려워하리.

- Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:
- Both low and high, rich and poor, together.
- My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
- I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
- Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?

- 한갓 돈 많음을 자랑하며 재물을 믿는 그들이거늘,
- 하느님께 돈을 바친다고 죽을 목숨을 살려주시랴?
- 목숨값은 엄청난 것, 그 값을 치르기는 감히 생각도 못할 일
- 저승길을 가지 않고 영원히 살리라고는 생각도 마라.
- 지혜로운 사람도 죽고 어리석은 자 우둔한 자 모두 죽는 법이다. 두고 가는 재산은 결국 남의 것,

- They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
- None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
- (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
- That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
- For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

- 그들이 땅에다가 제 이름 매겼더라도 그들의 영원한 집, 언제나 머물 곳은 무덤뿐이다.
- 사람은 제아무리 영화를 누려도 잠깐 살다 죽고 마는 짐승과 같다.

- Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
