- 마리아와 마르타 자매가 사는 베다니아 동네에 라자로라는 병자가 있었다.
- 앓고 있는 라자로는 마리아의 오빠였다. 마리아는 주님께 향유를 붓고 머리털로 주님의 발을 닦아드린 적이 있는 여자였다.
- 마리아와 마르타는 예수께 사람을 보내어 "주님, 주님께서 사랑하시는 이가 앓고 있습니다." 하고 전했다.
- 예수께서는 그 전갈을 받으시고 "그 병은 죽을 병이 아니다. 그것으로 오히려 하느님의 영광을 드러내고 하느님의 아들도 영광을 받게 될 것이다." 하고 말씀하셨다.
- 예수께서는 마르타와 그 여동생과 라자로를 사랑하고 계셨다.

- Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
- (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
- Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
- When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
- Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

- 그러나 라자로가 앓는다는 소식을 들으시고도 계시던 곳에서 더 머무르시다가 이틀이 지난 뒤에야
- 제자들에게 "유다로 돌아가자." 하고 말씀하셨다.
- 제자들이 "선생님, 얼마 전만 해도 유다인들이 선생님을 돌로 치려고 하였는데 그 곳으로 다시 가시겠습니까?" 하고 걱정하자
- 예수께서는 "낮은 열두 시간이나 되지 않느냐? 낮에 걸어다니는 사람은 세상의 빛을 보기 때문에 걸려 넘어지지 않는다.
- 그러나 밤에 걸어다니면 빛이 없기 때문에 걸려 넘어질 것이다." 하시며

- When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
- Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
- His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
- Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
- But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

- 이어서 "우리 친구 라자로가 잠들어 있으니 이제 내가 가서 깨워야겠다." 하고 말씀하셨다.
- 그러자 제자들은 "주님, 라자로가 잠이 들었다면 곧 살아나지 않겠습니까?" 하고 말하였다.
- 예수께서 하신 말씀은 라자로가 죽었다는 뜻이었는데 제자들은 그저 잠을 자고 있다는 말로 알아들었던 것이다.
- 그래서 예수께서는 분명히 말씀하셨다. "라자로는 죽었다.
- 이제 그 일로 너희가 믿게 될 터이니 내가 거기 있지 않았던 것이 오히려 잘된 일이다. 그 곳으로 가자."

- These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
- Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
- Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
- Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
- And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

- 그 때에 쌍둥이라고 불리던 토마가 자기 동료인 딴 제자들에게 "우리도 함께 가서 그와 생사를 같이합시다." 하고 말하였다.
- 예수께서 그 곳에 이르러 보니 라자로가 무덤에 묻힌 지 이미 나흘이나 지난 뒤였다.
- 베다니아는 예루살렘에서 오리밖에 안 되는 곳이어서
- 많은 유다인들이 오빠의 죽음을 슬퍼하고 있는 마르타와 마리아를 위로하러 와 있었다.
- 예수께서 오신다는 소식을 듣고 마르타는 마중을 나갔다. 그 동안 마리아는 집 안에 있었다.

- Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
- Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
- Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
- And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
- Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.

- 마르타는 예수께 이렇게 말하였다. "주님, 주님께서 여기에 계셨더라면 제 오빠는 죽지 않았을 것입니다.
- 그러나 지금이라도 주님께서 구하시기만 하면 무엇이든지 하느님께서 다 이루어주실 줄 압니다."
- "네 오빠는 다시 살아날 것이다." 예수께서 이렇게 말씀하시자
- 마르타는 "마지막 날 부활 때에 다시 살아나리라는 것은 저도 알고 있습니다." 하고 말하였다.
- 예수께서 "나는 부활이요 생명이니 나를 믿는 사람은 죽더라도 살겠고

- Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
- But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
- Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
- Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
- Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

- 또 살아서 믿는 사람은 영원히 죽지 않을 것이다. 너는 이것을 믿느냐?" 하고 물으셨다. 마르타는
- "예, 주님, 주님께서는 이 세상에 오시기로 약속된 그리스도이시며 하느님의 아드님이신 것을 믿습니다." 하고 대답하였다.
- 이 말을 남기고 마르타는 돌아가 자기 동생 마리아를 불러 귓속말로 "선생님이 오셔서 너를 부르신다." 하고 일러주었다.
- 마리아는 이 말을 듣고 벌떡 일어나 예수께 달려갔다.
- 예수께서는 아직 동네에 들어가지 않으시고 마르타가 마중 나왔던 곳에 그냥 계셨던 것이다.

- And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
- She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
- And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
- As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
- Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.

- 집에서 마리아를 위로해 주던 유다인들은 마리아가 급히 일어나 나가는 것을 보고 그가 곡하러 무덤에 나가는 줄 알고 뒤따라 나갔다.
- 마리아는 예수께서 계신 곳에 찾아가 뵙고 그 앞에 엎드려 "주님, 주님께서 여기에 계셨더라면 제 오빠가 죽지 않았을 것입니다." 하고 말하였다.
- 예수께서 마리아뿐만 아니라 같이 따라온 유다인들까지 우는 것을 보시고 비통한 마음이 북받쳐 올랐다.
- "그를 어디에 묻었느냐?" 하고 예수께서 물으시자 그들이 "주님, 오셔서 보십시오." 하고 대답하였다.
- 예수께서는 눈물을 흘리셨다.

- The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.
- Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
- When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled.
- And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
- Jesus wept.

- 그래서 유다인들은 "저것 보시오. 라자로를 무척 사랑했던가 봅니다." 하고 말하였다.
- 또 그들 가운데에는 "소경의 눈을 뜨게 한 사람이 라자로를 죽지 않게 할 수가 없었단 말인가?" 하는 사람도 있었다.
- 예수께서는 다시 비통한 심정에 잠겨 무덤으로 가셨다. 그 무덤은 동굴로 되어 있었고 입구는 돌로 막혀 있었다.
- 예수께서 "돌을 치워라." 하시자 죽은 사람의 누이 마르타가 "주님, 그가 죽은 지 나흘이나 되어서 벌써 냄새가 납니다." 하고 말씀 드렸다.
- 예수께서 마르타에게 "네가 믿기만 하면 하느님의 영광을 보게 되리라고 내가 말하지 않았느냐?" 하시자

- Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
- And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
- Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
- Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
- Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

- 사람들이 돌을 치웠다. 예수께서는 하늘을 우러러보시며 이렇게 기도하셨다. "아버지, 제 청을 들어주셔서 감사합니다.
- 그리고 언제나 제 청을 들어주시는 것을 저는 잘 압니다. 그러나 이제 저는 여기 둘러선 사람들로 하여금 아버지께서 저를 보내주셨다는 것을 믿게 하려고 이 말을 합니다."
- 말씀을 마치시고 "라자로야, 나오너라." 하고 큰소리로 외치시자
- 죽었던 사람이 밖으로 나왔는데 손발은 베로 묶여 있었고 얼굴은 수건으로 감겨 있었다. 예수께서 사람들에게 "그를 풀어주어 가게 하여라." 하고 말씀하셨다.

- Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
- And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
- And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
- And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
