- 그 다음날 베드로가 가이사리아에 도착하자 고르넬리오는 자기 친척들과 가까운 친구들을 불러놓고 베드로의 일행을 기다리고 있다가
- 베드로가 들어온다는 소리를 듣고 급히 마중을 나가 그 앞에 무릎을 꿇고 절하였다.
- 그러자 베드로는 그를 일으켜 세우며 "일어나십시오. 나도 역시 사람입니다." 하고 말하였다.
- 그리고 고르넬리오와 함께 이야기하면서 집으로 들어갔다. 많은 사람이 거기에 모여 있는 것을 보고
- 베드로는 그들에게 이렇게 말하였다. "잘 아시다시피 유다인은 이방인과 어울리거나 찾아 다니지 못하게 되어 있습니다. 그러나 하느님께서는 나에게 어떤 사람이라도 속되거나 불결하게 여기지 말라고 이르셨습니다.

- And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and he had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
- And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
- But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
- And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
- And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

- 그래서 사람들이 나를 부르러 왔을 때에 나는 거절하지 않고 따라왔습니다. 그런데 무슨 일로 나를 오라고 하셨습니까?"
- 고르넬리오는 이렇게 대답하였다. "나흘 전 이맘때쯤 나는 집에서 오후 세시 기도를 드리고 있었습니다. 그 때 갑자기 눈부신 옷을 입은 사람이 앞에 나타나
- '고르넬리오야, 하느님께서 네 기도를 들어주셨고 네 자선을 기억하고 계신다.
- 그러니 요빠로 사람을 보내어 베드로라는 시몬을 불러오도록 하여라. 그 사람은 바닷가에 있는 피장이 시몬의 집에 머물고 있다.' 하고 말했습니다.
- 그래서 저는 곧 선생님께 사람을 보냈던 것인데 참 잘 와주셨습니다. 지금 우리는 주께서 선생님께 지시하신 모든 말씀을 들으려고 다 같이 하느님 앞에 모였습니다."

- Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
- And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
- And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
- Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
- Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

- 베드로는 이렇게 말을 시작하였다. "나는 하느님께서 사람을 차별대우하지 않으시고
- 당신을 두려워하며 올바르게 사는 사람이면 어느 나라 사람이든지 다 받아주신다는 사실을 깨달았습니다.
- 하느님께서는 이스라엘 백성에게 당신의 말씀을 전해 주셨는데 그것은 만민의 주 예수 그리스도를 시켜 선포하신 평화의 복음입니다.
- 이것은 여러분도 알다시피 요한이 세례를 선포한 이래 갈릴래아에서 비롯하여 온 유다 지방에 걸쳐서 일어났던
- 나자렛 예수에 관한 일들입니다. 하느님께서는 그분에게 성령과 능력을 부어주시고 그분과 함께 계셨습니다. 그래서 그분은 두루 다니시며 좋은 일을 해주시고 악마에게 짓눌린 사람들을 모두 고쳐주셨습니다.

- Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
- But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
- The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
- That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
- How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

- 우리는 예수께서 유다 지방과 예루살렘에서 행하신 모든 일을 목격한 사람입니다. 사람들이 그분을 십자가에 달아 죽였지만
- 하느님께서는 그분을 사흘 만에 다시 살리시고 우리에게 나타나게 하셨습니다.
- 그분은 모든 사람에게 나타나신 것이 아니라 하느님께서 증인으로 미리 택하신 우리에게 나타나셨습니다. 그분이 죽었다가 다시 살아나신 뒤에 우리는 그분과 함께 먹기도 하고 마시기도 하였습니다.
- 그분은 우리에게 하느님께서 자기를 산 이들과 죽은 이들의 심판자로 정하셨다는 것을 사람들에게 선포하고 증언하라고 분부하셨습니다.
- 모든 예언자들도 이 예수를 믿는 사람은 누구든지 그분의 이름으로 죄를 용서받을 수 있다고 증언하였습니다."

- And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
- Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
- Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
- And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
- To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

- 베드로가 이렇게 말하고 있는 동안에 성령이 모든 청중에게 내려오셨다.
- 신자가 된 유다인으로서 베드로와 함께 왔던 사람들은 성령의 은혜가 이방인들에게까지 내리시는 것을 보고 깜짝 놀랐다.
- 그것은 이방인들도 기이한 언어로 말하며 하느님을 높이 찬양하는 것을 들었기 때문이다. 그 때 베드로가
- "이 사람들도 우리처럼 성령을 받았으니 이들이 물로 세례를 받는 것을 어떻게 막을 수 있겠습니까?" 하며
- 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 세례를 받으라고 일렀다. 그들은 베드로에게 자기들과 함께 며칠 더 머물러달라고 간청하였다.

- While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
- And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
- Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
- And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
