- 예수께서 헤로데 왕 때에 유다 베들레헴에서 나셨는데 그 때에 동방에서 박사들이 예루살렘에 와서
- "유다인의 왕으로 나신 분이 어디 계십니까? 우리는 동방에서 그분의 별을 보고 그분에게 경배하러 왔습니다." 하고 말하였다.
- 이 말을 듣고 헤로데 왕이 당황한 것은 물론, 예루살렘이 온통 술렁거렸다.
- 왕은 백성의 대사제들과 율법학자들을 다 모아놓고 그리스도께서 나실 곳이 어디냐고 물었다.
- 그들은 이렇게 대답하였다. "유다 베들레헴입니다. 예언서의 기록을 보면,

- Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,
- "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him."
- When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
- Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.
- They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet:

- '유다의 땅 베들레헴아, 너는 결코 유다의 땅에서 가장 작은 고을이 아니다. 내 백성 이스라엘의 목자가 될 영도자가 너에게서 나리라.' 하였습니다."
- 그 때에 헤로데가 동방에서 온 박사들을 몰래 불러 별이 나타난 때를 정확히 알아보고
- 그들을 베들레헴으로 보내면서 "가서 그 아기를 잘 찾아보시오. 나도 가서 경배할 터이니 찾거든 알려주시오." 하고 부탁하였다.
- 왕의 부탁을 듣고 박사들은 길을 떠났다. 그 때 동방에서 본 그 별이 그들을 앞서 가다가 마침내 그 아기가 있는 곳 위에 이르러 멈추었다.
- 이를 보고 그들은 대단히 기뻐하면서

- 'AND YOU, BETHLEHEM, LAND OF JUDAH, ARE BY NO MEANS LEAST AMONG THE LEADERS OF JUDAH; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME FORTH A RULER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.'"
- Then Herod secretly called the magi and determined from them the exact time the star appeared.
- And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search carefully for the Child; and when you have found Him, report to me, so that I too may come and worship Him."
- After hearing the king, they went their way; and the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stood over the place where the Child was.
- When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.

- 그 집에 들어가 어머니 마리아와 함께 있는 아기를 보고 엎드려 경배하였다. 그리고 보물 상자를 열어 황금과 유향과 몰약을 예물로 드렸다.
- 박사들은 꿈에 헤로데에게로 돌아가지 말라는 하느님의 지시를 받고 다른 길로 자기 나라에 돌아갔다.
- 박사들이 물러간 뒤에 주의 천사가 요셉의 꿈에 나타나서 "헤로데가 아기를 찾아 죽이려 하니 어서 일어나 아기와 아기 어머니를 데리고 이집트로 피신하여 내가 알려줄 때까지 거기에 있어라." 하고 일러주었다.
- 요셉은 일어나 그 밤으로 아기와 아기 어머니를 데리고 이집트로 가서
- 헤로데가 죽을 때까지 거기에서 살았다. 이리하여 주께서 예언자를 시켜 "내가 내 아들을 이집트에서 불러내었다." 하신 말씀이 이루어졌다.

- After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
- And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way.
- Now when they had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him."
- So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt.
- He remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: "OUT OF EGYPT I CALLED MY SON."

- 헤로데는 박사들에게 속은 것을 알고 몹시 노하였다. 그래서 사람을 보내어 박사들에게 알아본 때를 대중하여 베들레헴과 그 일대에 사는 두 살 이하의 사내아이를 모조리 죽여버렸다.
- 이리하여 예언자 예레미야를 시켜,
- "라마에서 들려오는 소리, 울부짖고 애통하는 소리, 자식 잃고 우는 라헬, 위로마저 마다는구나!" 하신 말씀이 이루어졌다.
- 헤로데가 죽은 뒤에 주의 천사가 이집트에 있는 요셉의 꿈에 나타나서
- "아기의 목숨을 노리던 자들이 이미 죽었으니 일어나 아기와 아기 어머니를 데리고 이스라엘 땅으로 돌아가라." 하고 일러주었다.

- Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the magi.
- Then what had been spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled:
- "A VOICE WAS HEARD IN RAMAH, WEEPING AND GREAT MOURNING, RACHEL WEEPING FOR HER CHILDREN; AND SHE REFUSED TO BE COMFORTED, BECAUSE THEY WERE NO MORE."
- But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, and said,
- "Get up, take the Child and His mother, and go into the land of Israel; for those who sought the Child's life are dead."

- 요셉은 일어나서 아기와 아기 어머니를 데리고 이스라엘 땅으로 돌아왔다.
- 그러나 아르켈라오가 자기 아버지 헤로데를 이어 유다 왕이 되었다는 말을 듣고 그리로 가기를 두려워하였다. 그러다가 그는 다시 꿈에 지시를 받고 갈릴래아 지방으로 가서
- 나자렛이라는 동네에서 살았다. 이리하여 예언자를 시켜 "그를 나자렛 사람이라 부르리라." 하신 말씀이 이루어졌다.

- So Joseph got up, took the Child and His mother, and came into the land of Israel.
- But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Then after being warned by God in a dream, he left for the regions of Galilee,
- and came and lived in a city called Nazareth This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophets: "He shall be called a Nazarene."
