- 하느님 우리 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도께서 은총과 평화를 여러분에게 내려주시기를 빕니다.
- 나는 여러분을 생각할 때마다 나의 하느님께 감사를 드리며
- 기도할 때마다 언제나 여러분 모두를 위해서 기쁜 마음으로 간구합니다.
- 여러분이 그리스도를 믿기 시작한 첫날부터 오늘에 이르기까지 그 복음을 전하는 데 협력해 온 것을 나는 하느님께 감사 드립니다.

- Paul and Timothy, bond-servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, including the overseers and deacons:
- Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
- I thank my God in all my remembrance of you,
- always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all,
- in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now.

- 여러분들에게 훌륭한 일을 시작하신 하느님께서는 그 일을 계속하실 것이며 마침내 그리스도 예수께서 다시 오시는 날 완성하실 것입니다. 이것이 나의 신념입니다.
- 여러분은 내가 갇혀 있을 때나 복음을 수호하고 입증할 때에 나와 함께 은총을 나누어 받으며 고생을 같이 해온 사람들로서 항상 내 마음속에 자리잡고 있으니 내가 여러분을 그런 생각으로 대하는 것도 당연한 일입니다.
- 내가 그리스도 예수의 지극한 사랑으로 여러분을 그리워하고 있다는 사실은 누구보다도 하느님께서 잘 알고 계십니다.
- 내가 여러분을 위해서 기원하는 것은 여러분의 사랑이 참된 지식과 분별력을 갖추어 점점 더 풍성해져서
- 가장 옳은 것이 무엇인지를 가릴 수 있게 되었으면 하는 것입니다. 그래서 여러분이 순결하고 나무랄 데 없는 사람으로서 그리스도의 날을 맞이하게 되고

- For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
- For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of grace with me.
- For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.
- And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment,
- so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ;

- 또 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로써 올바른 일을 많이 하여 하느님께 영광과 찬양을 드릴 수 있게 되기를 바랍니다.
- 형제 여러분, 내가 당하고 있는 일이 복음을 전파하는 일에 오히려 도움이 되었다는 사실을 알아주시기 바랍니다.
- 내가 그리스도를 위해서 갇혀 있다는 사실이 온 경비대와 그 밖의 모든 사람들에게 알려지게 되었습니다.
- 그래서 내가 갇힌 일 때문에 많은 교우들이 주님을 더욱 확고히 믿게 되었고 이제는 조금도 두려움 없이 용감하게 하느님의 말씀을 전하게 되었습니다.
- 어떤 사람들은 사실 시기와 경쟁심으로 그리스도를 전하지만 선의를 가지고 그리스도를 전하는 사람들도 있습니다.

- having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
- Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel,
- so that my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else,
- and that most of the brethren, trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment, have far more courage to speak the word of God without fear.
- Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will;

- 선의로 전하는 사람들은 내가 복음을 수호하는 사명을 받은 사람이라는 것을 알고 사랑하는 마음으로 전하지만
- 이기적인 동기에서 전하는 자들은 성실한 마음으로 하는 것이 아니라 내가 감옥에 있는 동안 나를 괴롭힐 생각으로 하는 것입니다.
- 그러나 그것이 무슨 상관이 있겠습니까? 가식으로 하든지 진실로 하든지 결국 그리스도가 전파되는 것이니 나에게는 기쁜 일입니다. 또 앞으로도 기뻐할 것입니다.
- 내가 지금은 갇혀 있지만 그것이 마침내는 여러분의 기도와 예수 그리스도의 성령의 도우심으로 나에게 구원을 가져오리라는 것을 알고 있기 때문입니다.
- 나의 간절한 기대와 희망은 내가 무슨 일에나 부끄러움을 당하지 않고 늘 그러했듯이 지금도 큰 용기를 가지고 살든지 죽든지 나의 생활을 통틀어 그리스도의 영광을 드러내는 것입니다.

- the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel;
- the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment.
- What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice,
- for I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
- according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

- 나에게는 그리스도가 생의 전부입니다. 그리고 죽는 것도 나에게는 이득이 됩니다.
- 그러나 내가 이 세상에 더 살아서 보람 있는 일을 할 수 있다면 과연 어느 쪽을 택해야 할지 모르겠습니다.
- 나는 그 둘 사이에 끼여 있으나 마음 같아서는 이 세상을 떠나서 그리스도와 함께 살고 싶습니다. 또 그 편이 훨씬 낫겠습니다.
- 그러나 여러분을 위해서는 내가 이 세상에 더 살아 있어야 하겠습니다.
- 이런 확신이 섰기 때문에 나는 살아 남아서 여전히 여러분과 함께 지내게 되리라고 생각합니다. 그렇게 되면 나는 여러분의 믿음을 발전시켜 주고 기쁨을 더해 줄 수 있을 것입니다.

- For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
- But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose.
- But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;
- yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.
- Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith,

- 그리고 내가 여러분을 다시 찾아가게 되면 여러분은 나로 말미암아 그리스도 예수를 더욱 자랑할 수 있게 될 것입니다.

- so that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again.
