- 14일째 되던 날 밤에도 우리는 아드리아해 부근에서 여전히 표류하고 있었다. 한밤중쯤 되어 선원들이 육지에 가까와지는 것을 느끼고
- 수심을 재어 보니 약 37미터였고 좀더 가서 다시 재어 보니 약 28미터였다.
- 우리는 암초에 걸릴까 염려되어 배 뒷편에 닻 넷을 내리고 날이 밝기를 기다렸다.
- 그런데 선원들이 도망치려고 뱃머리에서 닻을 내리려는 체하며 바다에 거룻배를 띄웠다.
- 그때 바울이 근위대 대장과 군인들에게 '이 사람들이 배에 남아 있지 않으면 여러분은 구조되지 못합니다.' 하고 말하자

- But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;
- And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms.
- Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.
- And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,
- Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

- 군인들이 밧줄을 끊어 거룻배를 떠내려 보냈다.
- 날이 밝아 올 무렵 바울은 모든 사람에게 음식을 먹으라고 권하며 이렇게 말하였다. '여러분은 오늘까지 14일 동안이나 아무것도 먹지 못하고 폭풍에 시달려 왔습니다.
- 그러므로 이제 여러분은 음식을 먹어야 합니다. 이것은 여러분이 살아 남기 위한 것입니다. 여러분은 머리카락 하나도 잃지 않을 것입니다.'
- 그리고서 바울은 빵을 들고 모든 사람 앞에서 하나님께 감사기도를 드리고 먹기 시작하였다.
- 그러자 모두 용기를 얻어 음식을 먹었는데

- Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.
- And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.
- Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.
- And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.
- Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.

- 배에 타고 있던 사람은 모두 276명이었다.
- 다 배불리 먹은 후 배를 가볍게 하려고 남은 밀을 바다에 던져 버렸다.
- 날이 밝았을 때 선원들은 어느 땅인지 모르지만 모래 사장이 있는 항만을 발견하고 될 수 있는 대로 거기에 배를 대려고 하였다.
- 그들은 닻을 끊어 바다에 버리고 동시에 킷줄을 늦추고 앞 돛을 올려 바람을 타고 해안을 향해 들어갔다.
- 그러나 배가 두 물살이 합치는 곳에 말려들어 모래톱에 좌초되어서 뱃머리는 움직이지 않고 배 뒷 부분은 사나운 파도에 깨어지기 시작했다.

- And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.
- And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.
- And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.
- And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.
- And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.

- 이렇게 되자 군인들은 죄수들이 한 사람이라도 헤엄쳐서 도망칠까 봐 그들을 죽일 계획을 세웠다.
- 그러나 근위대 대장은 바울을 구하려고 군인들을 제지시키고 헤엄칠 수 있는 사람은 먼저 바다에 뛰어들어 육지에 오르라고 명령하였다.
- 그리고 나머지 사람들은 널판이나 뱃조각을 타고 가게 하여 모두 무사히 육지에 올라왔다.

- And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.
- But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:
- And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.
