	예레미야 39:1-41:18 예루살렘이 함락되고 시드기야 왕과 백성들은 바벨론으로 잡혀 갔다. 그러나 예레미야를 구해 주었던 아벳멜렉은 이 와중에 하나님의 구원을 약속받았다. 포로에서 풀려 난 예레미야와 유다 땅에 남아 있던 빈민들은 바벨론 왕이 세운 총독 그다랴와 함께 거했다. 왕족인 이스마엘이 그다랴와 백성 칠십 인을 죽이고 암몬 족속에게 가자, 요하난 일행은 바벨론의 보복을 두려워하여 애굽으로 가려고 했다.

	예루살렘 함락(39:1-39:18)

유다의 시드기야왕 9년 10월에 바빌로니아의 느부갓네살왕과 그의 모든 군대가 와서 예루살렘을 포위 공격하였으며

시드기야왕 11년 4월 9일에 예루살렘성이 함락되었다. 그러자

바빌로니아 왕의 모든 대신들이 와서 중문에 자리를 잡고 앉았는데 그들은 네르갈-사레셀과 삼갈-느보와 살스김과 왕의 보좌관 네르갈-사레셀과 그 밖에 바빌로니아 왕의 여러 대신들이었다.

유다의 시드기야왕과 그의 모든 군대는 그들을 보고 도망하였다. 그들은 밤중에 궁전 동산 길을 지나서 두 개의 담 사이에 있는 문을 통해 성을 빠져나가 요단 계곡으로 향하였다.

그러나 바빌로니아군이 그들을 추격하여 여리고 평야에서 시드기야왕을 잡아 하맛 땅 리블라에 있는 바빌로니아의 느부갓네살왕에게 데리고 갔으며 거기서 왕은 그를 심문하였다.

In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and they besieged it.

And in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, the city was broken up.

And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate, even Nergalsharezer, Samgarnebo, Sarsechim, Rabsaris, Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, with all the residue of the princes of the king of Babylon.

And it came to pass, that when Zedekiah the king of Judah saw them, and all the men of war, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, by the gate betwixt the two walls: and he went out the way of the plain.

But the Chaldeans' army pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho: and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgment upon him.

그 곳 리블라에서 바빌로니아 왕은 시드기야가 보는 앞에서 그의 아들들과 유다의 모든 귀족들을 죽였다.

그런 다음 바빌로니아 왕은 시드기야의 눈을 빼고 그를 바빌로니아로 끌고 가기 위해서 쇠사슬로 묶었다.

한편 바빌로니아 사람들은 궁전과 백성들의 집에 불을 지르고 예루살렘 성벽을 헐었으며

경호대장 느부사라단은 성 안에 남아 있는 백성들과 자기에게 항복한 자들과 그 밖에 남은 백성들을 바빌로니아로 잡아갔다.

그러나 경호대장 느부사라단은 아무것도 소유하지 않은 아주 가난한 사람들을 유다 땅에 남겨 두고 포도원과 밭을 그들에게 주었다.

Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes: also the king of Babylon slew all the nobles of Judah.

Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes, and bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon.

And the Chaldeans burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and brake down the walls of Jerusalem.

Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Babylon the remnant of the people that remained in the city, and those that fell away, that fell to him, with the rest of the people that remained.

But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, which had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.

바빌로니아의 느부갓네살왕은 나에 관해 경호대장 느부사라단에게 명령하였다.

'너는 그를 데려다가 잘 돌봐주고 그를 해하지 말며 그가 너에게 요구하는 대로 해 주어라.'

그러자 경호대장 느부사라단과 내시감 느부사스반과 왕의 보좌관 네르갈-사레셀과 바빌로니아 왕의 모든 대신들이

사람을 보내 나를 궁중 감옥에서 데려오게 하였다. 그리고서 그들은 사반의 손자이며 아히감의 아들인 그달랴에게 나를 맡겨 그의 집으로 데려가게 하였다. 그래서 나는 백성들과 함께 있게 되었다.

이것은 내가 아직 궁중 감옥에 갇혀 있을 때 여호와께서 나에게 하신 말씀이다.

Now Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying,

Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do unto him even as he shall say unto thee.

So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard sent, and Nebushasban, Rabsaris, and Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, and all the king of Babylon's princes;

Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people.

Now the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying,

'너는 이디오피아 사람 에벳-멜렉에게 가서 전능한 나 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님이 이렇게 말하다고 일러 주어라. '나는 이 성에 재앙을 내리고 복을 주지 않겠다고 말한 적이 있다. 이제 그 말이 네가 보는 앞에서 이루어질 것이다.

나 여호와가 말하지만 내가 그 날에 너를 구원할 것이며 너는 네가 두려워하는 사람들의 손에 넘어가지 않을 것이다.

내가 반드시 너를 구원하겠다. 너는 칼날에 죽지 않고 살아서 피신하게 될 것이다. 이것은 네가 나를 신뢰하였기 때문이다. 나 여호와의 말이다.'

Go and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished in that day before thee.

But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the LORD: and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid.

For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee: because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the LORD.

	자유의 몸이 된 예레미야(40:1-40:6)

경호대장 느부사라단이 라마에서 나를 풀어 준 후에 여호와께서 나에게 말씀을 주셨는데 그때 나는 유다와 예루살렘 사람들과 함께 포로가 되어 쇠사슬에 묶인 채 바빌로니아로 끌려가고 있는 중이었다.

경호대장은 나를 불러 이렇게 말하였다. '너의 하나님 여호와께서 이 땅에 재앙을 선언하시더니

이제 그가 말씀하신 대로 행하셨다. 너희가 여호와께 범죄하고 그에게 순종하지 않았기 때문에 이 모든 일이 너희에게 일어난 것이다.

이제 내가 네 손의 사슬을 풀어서 너를 자유롭게 하겠다. 만일 네가 나와 함께 바빌로니아로 가기를 원한다면 함께 가자. 내가 너를 보살펴 주겠다. 그러나 네가 원하지 않으면 가지 않아도 좋다. 자, 온 땅이 네 앞에 있으니 네가 가고 싶은 곳으로 가거라.'

아직 내가 돌아서기도 전에 느부사라단은 덧붙여 '너는 바빌로니아 왕이 유다 총독으로 세운 사반의 손자이며 아히감의 아들인 그달랴에게 돌아가 그와 함께 백성들과 같이 지내든가 아니면 네가 좋아하는 곳으로 가거라.' 하였다. 그리고서 그 경호대장은 나에게 식량과 선물까지 주면서 나를 가게 하였다.

The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away captive unto Babylon.

And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, The LORD thy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place.

Now the LORD hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.

Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward, and let him go.

그래서 나는 미스바에 있는 아히감의 아들 그달랴에게 가서 그 땅에 남아 있는 백성들과 함께 지냈다.

Then went Jeremiah unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.

	살해당한 그다랴 총독(40:7-41:18)

아직도 들에 있으면서 항복하지 않은 군 지휘관들과 그 부하들은 바빌로니아 왕이 아히감의 아들 그달랴를 그 땅 총독으로 세우고 가난하여 바빌로니아로 잡혀가지 않은 남녀 빈민들과 아이들을 그에게 맡겼다는 말을 듣고

미스바에 있는 그달랴에게 찾아왔다. 그들은 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘, 가레아의 두 아들 요하난과 요나단, 단후멧의 아들 스라야, 느도바 사람 에배의 아들들, 마아가 사람 여사냐, 그리고 그들의 부하들이었다.

사반의 손자이며 아히감의 아들인 그달랴가 그들에게 맹세하며 이렇게 말하였다. '여러분은 바빌로니아 사람 섬기기를 두려워하지 마시고 이 땅에 정착하여 바빌로니아 왕을 섬기십시오. 그렇게 하는 것이 여러분에게 좋을 것입니다.

나는 미스바에 머물러 있으면서 우리에게 오는 바빌로니아 사람들에게 여러분을 대변하겠습니다. 여러분은 포도주와 여름 과일과 기름을 거둬들여 저장하고 여러분이 차지한 땅에서 살도록 하십시오.'

모압과 암몬과 에돔과 그리고 다른 모든 지방에 있는 유대인들도 바빌로니아 왕이 일부 사람들을 유다에 남겨 두고 사반의 손자이며 아히감의 아들인 그달랴를 총독으로 세워 그들을 다스리게 했다는 말을 듣고

Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon;

Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.

And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan sware unto them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.

Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan;

그들이 흩어져 있던 각처에서 유다 땅으로 돌아와 미스바에 있는 그달랴에게 왔다. 그리고 그들은 거기서 많은 포도와 여름 과일을 거둬들였다.

가레아의 아들 요하난과 아직도 항복하지 않은 군 지휘관들이 미스바에 있는 그달랴에게 와서

'암몬 자손의 바알리스왕이 당신을 죽이려고 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘을 보낸 사실을 당신은 알고 있습니까?' 하고 물었다. 그러나 아히감의 아들 그달랴는 그들의 말을 믿지 않았다.

그러자 가레아의 아들 요하난이 그달랴에게 몰래 이렇게 말하였다. '내가 가서 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘을 아무도 모르게 죽여 버리겠습니다. 그가 당신을 죽여 당신에게 모여든 모든 유대인들을 흩어지게 하고 유다에 남아 있는 자들을 멸망당하게 할 이유가 무엇입니까?'

그러나 그달랴는 요하난에게 '당신은 그런 일을 하지 마시오. 이스마엘에 대하여 당신이 한 말은 사실이 아니오.' 하고 대답하였다.

Even all the Jews returned out of all places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, unto Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.

Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

And said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.

Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?

But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.

그 해 7월에 왕족 엘리사마의 손자이며 느다냐의 아들인 왕의 신하 이스마엘이 열 사람과 함께 미스바에 있는 아히감의 아들 그달랴에게 가서 함께 식사를 하게 되었다.

그런데 식사 도중에 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘과 그와 같이 온 열 사람이 일어나서 바빌로니아왕이 그 땅 총독으로 세운 사반의 손자이며 아히감의 아들인 그달랴를 칼로 쳐죽였다.

그리고 이스마엘은 또 그달랴와 함께 미스바에 있던 모든 유대인들과 그 곳에 있던 바빌로니아 군인들도 죽였다.

그달랴의 살해 사건을 아는 자는 아무도 없었다. 그런데 그 다음 날

수염을 깎고 옷을 찢고 몸에 상처를 낸 80명의 사람들이 성전에 바칠 곡식의 소제물과 향을 가지고 세겜과 실로와 사마리아에서 왔다.

Now it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and the princes of the king, even ten men with him, came unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they did eat bread together in Mizpah.

Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.

Ishmael also slew all the Jews that were with him, even with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, and the men of war.

And it came to pass the second day after he had slain Gedaliah, and no man knew it,

That there came certain from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even fourscore men, having their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the LORD.

그때 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘은 그들을 맞기 위해 미스바에서 울며 나오다가 그들을 만나자 '아히감의 아들 그달랴에게 갑시다.' 하고 말하였다.

그들이 성 안에 들어섰을 때 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘과 그 부하들이 그들을 죽이고 그 시체를 구덩이에 던져 넣어 버렸다.

그러나 그들 중 열 사람은 이스마엘에게 '제발 우리를 죽이지 마시오. 우리에게는 들에 숨겨 놓은 밀과 보리와 기름과 꿀이 있습니다.' 하고 애원하였다. 그래서 이스마엘은 그들을 죽이지 않고 살려 주었다.

이스마엘이 자기가 죽인 시체를 던져 넣은 그 구덩이는 아사왕이 이스라엘의 바아사왕을 방어하기 위해서 판 것인데 이스마엘은 그 곳을 시체로 가득 채웠다.

그리고서 그는 바빌로니아의 경호대장 느부사라단이 아히감의 아들 그달랴에게 맡긴 왕의 딸들과 미스바에 남아 있는 모든 백성을 사로잡아 암몬 땅을 향해 출발하였다.

And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and it came to pass, as he met them, he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.

And it was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he, and the men that were with him.

But ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael, Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he forbare, and slew them not among their brethren.

Now the pit wherein Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men, whom he had slain because of Gedaliah, was it which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel: and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with them that were slain.

Then Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, even the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam: and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the Ammonites.

가레아의 아들 요하난과 그와 함께 있던 모든 군 지휘관들이 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘이 행한 모든 악한 일에 대하여 듣고

그 부하들을 이끌고 이스마엘과 싸우러 가다가 기브온이 있는 큰 못 근처에서 그를 만났다.

그러자 이스마엘에게 잡혀 있던 모든 백성들이 가레아의 아들 요하난과 그와 함께 온 모든 군 지휘관들을 보고 기뻐하며

그들에게 달려갔다.

그러나 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘과 그의 부하 8명은 요하난을 피하여 암몬 땅으로 도망하였다.

But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,

Then they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.

Now it came to pass, that when all the people which were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were glad.

So all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah cast about and returned, and went unto Johanan the son of Kareah.

But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites.

요하난과 그와 함께 있던 모든 군 지휘관들은 이스마엘이 아히감의 아들 그달랴를 죽이고 미스바에서 잡아간 모든 사람들, 곧 군인과 여자들과 아이들과 궁중 관리들을 기브온에서 빼앗아 그들을 이끌고

이집트로 향해 가다가 베들레헴 근처에 있는 게룻-김함에 머물게 되었다.

이것은 바빌로니아 왕이 그 땅 총독으로 세운 아히감의 아들 그달랴를 이스마엘이 죽였으므로 그들이 바빌로니아 사람을 두려워했기 때문이었다.

Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, even mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon:

And they departed, and dwelt in the habitation of Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt,

Because of the Chaldeans: for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor in the land.
