사무엘하

본서는 다윗의 통치를 통해 하나님을 대리하여 통치하는 신정 국가의 이상을 보여 주고 있다. 다윗이 하나님의 뜻을 따라 성실과 공의로 다스리는 모습을 기록함으로써 장차 왕으로 오실 그리스도의 통치를 보여 주고 있다. 아울러 다윗의 성공과 실패를 통하여 인생에 있어서의 성공의 관건은 하나님에 대한 신앙 유지에 있음을 가르쳐 준다.

사울이 죽은 후 왕위에 등극한 다윗은 왕국의 기틀을 공고히 하기 위한 제반 조치와 함께 성공적인 정복 전쟁을 통해 영토를 애굽에서 유브라데까지 확장시킨다. 또한 다윗은 밧세바 사건으로 말미암아 갖가지 재난을 겪고, 여러 가지 사건들을 하나님의 은혜로 극복한다.

	사무엘하 1:1-2:32 사울과 요나단의 죽음을 전해 들은 다윗은 그들을 추모하는 애가를 지어 불렀다. 유다 지파의 왕으로 등극한 다윗은 사울을 장사한 야베스 사람들을 축복했다. 사울의 군장 아브넬이 사울의 아들 이스보셋을 왕으로 세움으로써 다윗의 집과 사울의 집 사이의 싸움은 계속되었다. 다윗의 군장 요압은 기브온 전투에서 아브넬에게 승리를 거두었으나 동생 아사헬을 잃었다.

	사울과 요나단의 죽음을 애도하는 다윗(1:1-1:27)

사울이 죽었을 때 다윗은 아말렉군을 무찌르고 시글락으로 돌아온 지 이틀째가 되었다.

그 다음 날 이스라엘군의 진지에서 한 사람이 왔다. 그는 자기 옷을 찢고 머리에 티끌을 끼얹은 채 다윗 앞에 나와 땅이 엎드려 절하였다.

그러자 다윗이 그에게 물었다. '네가 어디서 왔느냐?' '이스라엘군의 진지에서 도망쳐 나왔습니다.'

'무슨 일이냐? 나에게 말하라.' '우리 군대는 전쟁에 패하여 도주하다가 수많은 병사가 죽고 사울과 그의 아들 요나단도 죽었습니다.'

'그들이 죽은 것을 네가 어떻게 아느냐?'

Now it came about after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, that David remained two days in Ziklag.

On the third day, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul, with his clothes torn and dust on his head And it came about when he came to David that he fell to the ground and prostrated himself.

Then David said to him, "From where do you come?" And he said to him, "I have escaped from the camp of Israel."

David said to him, "How did things go? Please tell me." And he said, "The people have fled from the battle, and also many of the people have fallen and are dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also."

So David said to the young man who told him, "How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?"

'내가 우연히 길보아산에 올라갔을 때 사울 왕은 자기 창을 의지하고 있었고 적 전차와 마병은 그에게 바싹 다가오고 있었습니다.

이 순간 왕이 나를 보더니 자기에게 오라고 불렀습니다. 그래서 내가 갔더니

왕은 '네가 누구냐?' 하고 물었습니다. 그때 내가 '아말렉 사람입니다.' 하고 대답하자

왕은 나에게 '아직도 내가 목숨이 붙어 있어 고통스러우니 너는 이리 와서 나를 죽여라.' 하셨습니다.

그래서 나는 왕이 더 이상 살 수 없을 것 같아서 그를 죽인 후 왕관을 벗기고 그의 팔찌를 뽑아 당신에게 이렇게 가져왔습니다.'

The young man who told him said, "By chance I happened to be on Mount Gilboa, and behold, Saul was leaning on his spear. And behold, the chariots and the horsemen pursued him closely.

"When he looked behind him, he saw me and called to me. And I said, 'Here I am.'

"He said to me, 'Who are you?' And I answered him, 'I am an Amalekite.'

"Then he said to me, 'Please stand beside me and kill me, for agony has seized me because my life still lingers in me.'

"So I stood beside him and killed him, because I knew that he could not live after he had fallen And I took the crown which was on his head and the bracelet which was on his arm, and I have brought them here to my lord."

이 말을 듣자 다윗과 그의 부하들은 자기들의 옷을 찢고

전쟁터에서 죽은 사울과 그의 아들 요나단과 여호와의 백성과 이스라엘을 생각하며 하루 종일 슬퍼하고 금식하였다.

다윗은 그 소식을 전한 청년에게 '너는 어디 사람이냐?' 하고 물었다. 그가 '나는 이스라엘에 이주해 온 아말렉 사람입니다.' 하고 대답하자

'네가 어째서 하나님이 세우신 왕을 죽였느냐?' 하고 다윗은 호통을 친 다음

그의 부하 하나를 불러 '이 자를 죽여라!' 하고 명령하였다. 그러자 그는 그 아말렉 사람을 단숨에 칼로 쳐서 죽여 버렸다.

Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them, and so also did all the men who were with him.

They mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and his son Jonathan and for the people of the LORD and the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.

David said to the young man who told him, "Where are you from?" And he answered, "I am the son of an alien, an Amalekite."

Then David said to him, "How is it you were not afraid to stretch out your hand to destroy the LORD'S anointed?"

And David called one of the young men and said, "Go, cut him down." So he struck him and he died.

그때 다윗이 '너는 네 죄값으로 죽었다. 이것은 네가 스스로 하나님이 세우신 왕을 죽였다고 고백했기 때문이다.' 하고 말하였다.

다윗은 사울과 요나단을 애도하는 노래를 지어 그것을 모든 유다 사람들에게 가르치라고 명령했는데 이것은 야살의 책에 이렇게 기록되어 있다.

오, 이스라엘이여, 너의 영광이 산 위에서 사라졌구나! 힘 센 용사들이 엎드러지고 말았네.

이 일을 블레셋 사람들에게 말하지 말아라. 그들이 들으면 즐거워할 것이다. 가드와 아스글론성에 알리지 말아라. 이방 민족이 우쭐댈까 하노라.

David said to him, "Your blood is on your head, for your mouth has testified against you, saying, 'I have killed the LORD'S anointed.'"

Then David chanted with this lament over Saul and Jonathan his son,

and he told them to teach the sons of Judah the song of the bow; behold, it is written in the book of Jashar.

"Your beauty, O Israel, is slain on your high places! How have the mighty fallen!

"Tell it not in Gath, Proclaim it not in the streets of Ashkelon, Or the daughters of the Philistines will rejoice, The daughters of the uncircumcised will exult.

오, 길보아 산들아, 네 위에 이슬이나 비가 내리지 않을 것이며 네 땅은 언제나 황무지가 될 것이다. 거기에 용사들의 방패가 버려졌으니 사울의 방패에 기름칠을 할 수 없게 되었구나.

요나단의 활은 반드시 적의 피와 기름을 적셨고 사울의 칼은 헛되이 돌아오는 법이 없었다.

사랑스럽고 아름답던 사울과 요나단, 그들은 생전에도 함께 있더니 죽을 때에도 서로 떠나지 않았구나. 그들은 독수리보다 빠르고 사자보다 강하였다.

오, 이스라엘의 딸들아, 사울을 위해 슬피 울어라 그가 너희에게 화려한 옷을 입히고 너희 옷을 금 장식품으로 꾸몄다.

용사들이 전쟁터에 쓰러졌구나. 요나단이 높은 산에서 죽임을 당했구나.

"O mountains of Gilboa, Let not dew or rain be on you, nor fields of offerings; For there the shield of the mighty was defiled, The shield of Saul, not anointed with oil.

"From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, The bow of Jonathan did not turn back, And the sword of Saul did not return empty.

"Saul and Jonathan, beloved and pleasant in their life, And in their death they were not parted; They were swifter than eagles, They were stronger than lions.

"O daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, Who clothed you luxuriously in scarlet, Who put ornaments of gold on your apparel.

"How have the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! Jonathan is slain on your high places.

내 형제 요나단이여, 내가 그대를 위해 슬퍼하노라. 그대는 나에게 얼마나 사랑스러웠던고! 나에 대한 그대의 사랑이 여인의 사랑보다 깊지 않았던가!

용사들이 쓰러졌으니 그들의 무기가 쓸모없게 되었구나.

"I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; You have been very pleasant to me. Your love to me was more wonderful Than the love of women.

"How have the mighty fallen, And the weapons of war perished!"

	유다 왕이 된 다윗(2:1-2:32)

그 후에 다윗이 여호와께 '내가 다시 유다로 돌아가도 됩니까?' 하고 묻자 여호와께서 '좋다. 올라가거라.' 하고 말씀하셨다. '그러면 내가 어느 성으로 가야 합니까?' 하고 다윗이 묻자 여호와께서는 '헤브론으로 가거라.' 하고 대답하셨다.

그래서 다윗은 그의 두 아내 이스르엘 여자 아히노암과 나발의 아내였던 갈멜 여자 아비가일과

그리고 그의 부하들과 그들의 모든 가족을 데리고 헤브론으로 갔다.

그러자 유다 사람들이 헤브론으로 와서 다윗에게 기름을 부어 그를 유다의 왕으로 삼았다. 다윗은 길르앗의 야베스 사람들이 사울을 장사지냈다는 말을 듣고

그들에게 이런 전갈을 보냈다. '여러분이 왕에게 충성하는 마음으로 그를 장사하였으니 여호와께서 여러분에게 복을 주시기 원합니다.

Then it came about afterwards that David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up to one of the cities of Judah?" And the LORD said to him, "Go up " So David said, "Where shall I go up?" And He said, "To Hebron."

So David went up there, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite.

And David brought up his men who were with him, each with his household; and they lived in the cities of Hebron.

Then the men of Judah came and there anointed David king over the house of Judah And they told David, saying, "It was the men of Jabesh-gilead who buried Saul."

David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh-gilead, and said to them, "May you be blessed of the LORD because you have shown this kindness to Saul your lord, and have buried him.

여러분이 행한 일에 대하여 여호와께서 갚아 주시기 원하며 나도 여러분의 선한 일에 대하여 갚아 주겠습니다.

이제 여러분은 강하고 담대하십시오. 여러분의 왕 사울은 죽었고 유다 사람들은 나를 자기들의 왕으로 삼았습니다.'

한편 사울의 군대 총사령관이었던 아브넬은 사울의 아들 이스-보셋을 데리고 마하나님으로 가서 그를 이스라엘의 왕으로 삼았다.

그의 영토는 길르앗, 아술, 이스르엘, 에브라임과 베냐민 사람의 땅, 그 밖에 이스라엘의 나머지 모든 땅이었다.

이스-보셋이 왕이 되었을 때는 그의 나이 40세였다. 그는 2년 동안 마하나임에서 통치하였다. 한편 다윗은 유다의 왕으로서 7년 반 동안 헤브론에서 통치하였다.

"Now may the LORD show lovingkindness and truth to you; and I also will show this goodness to you, because you have done this thing.

"Now therefore, let your hands be strong and be valiant; for Saul your lord is dead, and also the house of Judah has anointed me king over them."

But Abner the son of Ner, commander of Saul's army, had taken Ish-bosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim.

He made him king over Gilead, over the Ashurites, over Jezreel, over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, even over all Israel.

Ish-bosheth, Saul's son, was forty years old when he became king over Israel, and he was king for two years. The house of Judah, however, followed David.

어느 날 아브넬 장군은 이스-보셋의 일부 병력을 데리고 마하나임에서 기브온으로 갔다.

그러자 스루야의 아들 요압 장군이 다윗의 일부 병력을 이끌고 나와 기브온 연못가에서 그들을 만났다. 그들은 연못 이편 저편에서 서로 마주 보고 앉았다.

그때 아브넬은 요압에게 '우리 양편에서 젊은 군인들을 뽑아 서로 칼 싸움을 시켜 보는 것이 어떤가?' 하고 제안하자 요압은 기꺼이 승낙하였다.

그래서 양편에서 각각 12명씩 뽑아 세웠는데

The time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

Now Abner the son of Ner, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon with the servants of Ish-bosheth the son of Saul.

And Joab the son of Zeruiah and the servants of David went out and met them by the pool of Gibeon; and they sat down, one on the one side of the pool and the other on the other side of the pool.

Then Abner said to Joab, "Now let the young men arise and hold a contest before us." And Joab said, "Let them arise."

So they arose and went over by count, twelve for Benjamin and Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.

그들은 서로 머리를 붙잡고 칼로 상대편의 옆구리를 찔렀다. 그러자 모두 그 자리에서 쓰러지고 말았다. 그래서 그때부터 그 곳을 '칼의 밭'이라 부르게 되었다.

그런 다음 양군 사이에는 치열한 싸움이 벌어졌다. 결국 아브넬과 이스라엘군이 요압과 다윗의 군대에게 패하고 말았다.

그때 요압의 형제 아비새와 아사헬도 그 곳에 있었다. 아사헬은 노루처럼 빨리 뛸 수 있었으므로

아브넬의 추격에 나섰다. 그가 한결같이 끈질기게 추격하자

아브넬이 뒤를 돌아보며 물었다. '네가 아사헬이냐?' '그렇다, 나다.'

Each one of them seized his opponent by the head and thrust his sword in his opponent's side; so they fell down together. Therefore that place was called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in Gibeon.

That day the battle was very severe, and Abner and the men of Israel were beaten before the servants of David.

Now the three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab and Abishai and Asahel; and Asahel was as swift-footed as one of the gazelles which is in the field.

Asahel pursued Abner and did not turn to the right or to the left from following Abner.

Then Abner looked behind him and said, "Is that you, Asahel?" And he answered, "It is I."

'너는 나를 쫓는 일을 그만 두고 다른 사람을 추격하여 그가 가진 것을 빼앗아라.' 그러나 아사헬은 그를 계속 추격하였다.

그래서 아브넬이 아사헬에게 말하였다. '나를 쫓는 일을 중단하라. 너는 어째서 내가 너를 죽이게끔 하느냐? 만일 내가 너를 죽인다면 내가 어떻게 너의 형 요압을 대면할 수 있겠느냐?'

그래도 아사헬이 돌아서지 않으므로 아브넬은 자기 창 뒤쪽 끝으로 그의 배를 찔렀다. 그러자 창이 그의 등을 꿰뚫고 나왔고 아사헬은 곧 땅에 쓰러져 죽었다. 그 후로 그 곳을 지나가는 사람마다 아사헬이 쓰러져 죽은 곳에 이르러 발걸음을 멈추었다.

이번에는 요압과 아비새가 아브넬의 추격에 나섰다. 그들이 기브온 광야로 가는 길가의 기아 맞은편 암마산에 도착했을 때 해가 졌고

베냐민 지파의 아브넬 군대는 그 산꼭대기에 모여 있었다.

So Abner said to him, "Turn to your right or to your left, and take hold of one of the young men for yourself, and take for yourself his spoil." But Asahel was not willing to turn aside from following him.

Abner repeated again to Asahel, "Turn aside from following me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I lift up my face to your brother Joab?"

However, he refused to turn aside; therefore Abner struck him in the belly with the butt end of the spear, so that the spear came out at his back. And he fell there and died on the spot. And it came about that all who came to the place where Asahel had fallen and died, stood still.

But Joab and Abishai pursued Abner, and when the sun was going down, they came to the hill of Ammah, which is in front of Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.

The sons of Benjamin gathered together behind Abner and became one band, and they stood on the top of a certain hill.

이때 아브넬이 요압에게 외쳤다. '우리가 계속 칼로 서로를 죽여야 하느냐? 너는 어째서 비참한 결과를 내다 보지 못하느냐? 우리는 다 같은 동족이다. 네가 언제나 네 부하들에게 우리를 더 이상 추격하지 말라고 명령하겠느냐?'

그때 요압이 대답하였다. '내가 살아 계신 하나님 앞에서 맹세하지만 네가 싸움을 거는 말을 하지 않았더라면 우리가 아침에 벌써 돌아갔을 것이다.'

그리고서 요압이 나팔을 불자 그의 부하들은 더 이상 이스라엘군을 추격하지 않았고 그들은 다시 싸우지 않았다.

그 날 밤 아브넬과 그의 부하들은 아라바를 지나 요단강을 건넌 다음 밤새도록 행군하여 다음 날 아침에 마하나임에 도착하였다.

한편 요압과 그의 부하들도 돌아와 인원 점검을 했는데 희생자는 아사헬 외에 19명이었다.

Then Abner called to Joab and said, "Shall the sword devour forever? Do you not know that it will be bitter in the end? How long will you refrain from telling the people to turn back from following their brothers?"

Joab said, "As God lives, if you had not spoken, surely then the people would have gone away in the morning, each from following his brother."

So Joab blew the trumpet; and all the people halted and pursued Israel no longer, nor did they continue to fight anymore.

Abner and his men then went through the Arabah all that night; so they crossed the Jordan, walked all morning, and came to Mahanaim.

Then Joab returned from following Abner; when he had gathered all the people together, nineteen of David's servants besides Asahel were missing.

그러나 모든 베냐민 지파 출신이었던 아브넬의 부하 중에서는 360명의 병사가 전사하였다.

요압과 그의 부하들은 아사헬의 시체를 베들레헴으로 메고 가서 그의 아버지가 묻혀 있는 묘실에 장사한 다음 밤새도록 걸어서 새벽에 헤브론으로 돌아왔다.

But the servants of David had struck down many of Benjamin and Abner's men, so that three hundred and sixty men died.

And they took up Asahel and buried him in his father's tomb which was in Bethlehem. Then Joab and his men went all night until the day dawned at Hebron.
