	에스라 7:1-8:20 아닥사스다 왕은 조서를 내려 율법 학사 겸 제사장인 에스라와 그의 백성들을 바벨론에서 예루살렘으로 귀환시켰다. 이는 에스라를 중심으로 한 제2차 귀환이었다. 에스라와 함께 귀환한 명단이 유명 가문별 족보로 기록되었다.

	에스라의 귀환(7:1-7:28)

그 후에 페르시아의 아르타크셀크세스황제 시대에 에스라라는 사람이 있었다. 그의 조상을 세대순으로 거슬러 올라가면 스라야, 아사랴, 힐기야,

살룸, 사독, 아히둡,

아마랴, 아사랴, 므라욧,

스라히야, 웃시, 북기,

아비수아, 비느하스, 엘르아살, 그리고 대제사장 아론이었다.

Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, there went up Ezra son of Seraiah, son of Azariah, son of Hilkiah,

son of Shallum, son of Zadok, son of Ahitub,

son of Amariah, son of Azariah, son of Meraioth,

son of Zerahiah, son of Uzzi, son of Bukki,

son of Abishua, son of Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the chief priest.

에스라는 이 당시 바빌론에서 올라왔다. 그는 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 모세에게 주신 율법에 정통한 학자였다. 여호와께서 그를 축복해 주셨으므로 페르시아 황제는 그가 요구하는 것은 무엇이든지 다 주었다.

에스라는 아르타크셀크세스황제 7년에 제사장, 레위인, 성가대원, 그리고 성전 문지기와 봉사자를 포함한 다른 이스라엘 사람들과 함께 예루살렘으로 올라왔는데

그들은 그해 1월 1일에 바빌론을 떠나 하나님의 도움으로 5월 1일에 예루살렘에 도착하였다.

에스라는 여호와의 율법을 연구하고 지키며 그 모든 법과 규정을 이스라엘 백성에게 가르치기로 결심하였다.

This Ezra went up from Babylon, and he was a scribe skilled in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given; and the king granted him all he requested because the hand of the LORD his God was upon him.

Some of the sons of Israel and some of the priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers and the temple servants went up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.

He came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.

For on the first of the first month he began to go up from Babylon; and on the first of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, because the good hand of his God was upon him.

For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the LORD and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel.

이것은 아르타크셀크세스황제가 율법에 정통한 학자이며 제사장인 에스라에게 준 편지 내용이다.

'하늘에 계신 하나님의 율법에 정통한 학자이며 제사장인 에스라에게 나 아르타크셀크세스황제가 알린다.

내 제국 안에 있는 이스라엘 사람 중에서 예루살렘으로 돌아가고 싶은 사람은 제사장과 레위인을 포함하여 누구든지 너와 함께 돌아가도 좋다.

나는 자문관 7명과 의논한 끝에 예루살렘과 유다에서 너의 하나님 여호와의 율법이 어떻게 지켜지고 있는지 그 형편을 알아보려고 너를 보낸다.

너는 갈 때 나와 내 자문관들이 예루살렘의 성전에 계시는 이스라엘의 하나님께 드리는 금과 은을 가져가고

Now this is the copy of the decree which King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, learned in the words of the commandments of the LORD and His statutes to Israel:

"Artaxerxes, king of kings, to Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace. And now

I have issued a decree that any of the people of Israel and their priests and the Levites in my kingdom who are willing to go to Jerusalem, may go with you.

"Forasmuch as you are sent by the king and his seven counselors to inquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem according to the law of your God which is in your hand,

and to bring the silver and gold, which the king and his counselors have freely offered to the God of Israel, whose dwelling is in Jerusalem,

또 네가 바빌론도에서 얻을 수 있는 은과 금, 그리고 이스라엘 백성과 제사장들이 예루살렘에 있는 그들 하나님의 성전에 바칠 예물도 가져가거라.

너는 이 돈으로 즉시 수송아지와 수양과 어린 양과 소제로 드릴 곡식과 전제로 드릴 포도주를 사서 예루살렘에 있는 성전의 단에 제물로 드리고

나머지 돈은 너와 네 동족들이 너희 하나님의 뜻에 따라 좋을 대로 사용하여라.

또 성전에서 쓰라고 너에게 준 그릇들을 가지고 가서 예루살렘의 하나님께 드려라.

그밖에 네 하나님의 성전에 필요한 것이 있으면 국고에서 지원해 주겠다.

with all the silver and gold which you find in the whole province of Babylon, along with the freewill offering of the people and of the priests, who offered willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem;

with this money, therefore, you shall diligently buy bulls, rams and lambs, with their grain offerings and their drink offerings and offer them on the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.

"Whatever seems good to you and to your brothers to do with the rest of the silver and gold, you may do according to the will of your God.

"Also the utensils which are given to you for the service of the house of your God, deliver in full before the God of Jerusalem.

"The rest of the needs for the house of your God, for which you may have occasion to provide, provide for it from the royal treasury.

나 아르타크셀크세스황제는 유프라테스강 서쪽 지방의 모든 국고 관리자들에게 명령한다. 너희는 하늘에 계신 하나님의 율법학자이며 제사장인 에스라가 요구하는 것은 무엇이든지 즉시 공급해 주어라.

그 한 도량은 은 3,4킬로그램, 밀 22킬로리터, 포도주와 감람기름은 각각 2,200리터이다. 그리고 소금은 요구하는 대로 얼마든지 주어라.

너희는 하늘의 하나님이 이 성전을 위해 요구하시는 것은 무엇이든지 다 제공하여 나와 내 아들들이 그분의 노여우심을 사지 않도록 하여라.

또 너희는 제사장 레위인, 성가대원, 문지기, 성전 봉사자들, 그리고 그 밖에 하나님의 성전에서 일하는 자들에게는 그 어떤 세금도 거둬들여서는 안 된다.

그리고 너 에스라는 네 하나님이 너에게 주신 지혜로 행정관들과 재판관들을 임명하여 유프라테스강 서쪽 지방에서 네 하나님의 율법대로 사는 모든 사람들을 다스리게 하고 또 너는 그 율법을 알지 못하는 사람들에게 그것을 가르쳐라.

"I, even I, King Artaxerxes, issue a decree to all the treasurers who are in the provinces beyond the River, that whatever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, may require of you, it shall be done diligently,

even up to 100 talents of silver, 100 kors of wheat, 100 baths of wine, 100 baths of oil, and salt as needed.

"Whatever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be done with zeal for the house of the God of heaven, so that there will not be wrath against the kingdom of the king and his sons.

"We also inform you that it is not allowed to impose tax, tribute or toll on any of the priests, Levites, singers, doorkeepers, Nethinim or servants of this house of God.

"You, Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God which is in your hand, appoint magistrates and judges that they may judge all the people who are in the province beyond the River, even all those who know the laws of your God; and you may teach anyone who is ignorant of them.

네 하나님의 율법이나 이 황제의 법에 불순종하는 자가 있으면 누구든지 즉시 처벌하여 사형을 시키거나 귀양을 보내거나 재산을 몰수하거나 감옥에 가두어라.'

그러자 에스라는 이렇게 외쳤다. '이처럼 예루살렘에 있는 여호와의 성전을 소중히 여기는 마음을 황제에게 주신 우리 조상들의 하나님 여호와를 찬양하라!

하나님은 내가 황제와 그에 자문관들과 권력 있는 그의 모든 신하들에게 은혜를 입게 하셨다. 나의 하나님 여호와께서 나에게 용기를 주셨으므로 내가 이스라엘의 지도자들을 설득하여 그들과 함께 예루살렘으로 돌아올 수 있었다!'

"Whoever will not observe the law of your God and the law of the king, let judgment be executed upon him strictly, whether for death or for banishment or for confiscation of goods or for imprisonment."

Blessed be the LORD, the God of our fathers, who has put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to adorn the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem,

and has extended lovingkindness to me before the king and his counselors and before all the king's mighty princes Thus I was strengthened according to the hand of the LORD my God upon me, and I gathered leading men from Israel to go up with me.

	에스라와 동행한 자들(8:1-8:20)

아르타크셀크세스황제 때에 에스라와 함께 바빌로니아에서 예루살렘으로 돌아온 족장들과 그 집안 사람들은 다음과 같다.

비느하스 집안에서 게르솜,

이다말 집안에서 다니엘, 다윗 집안에서 스가냐의 자손인 핫두스, 바로스 집안에서 스가랴와 그리고 그와 함께 족보에 기록된 남자 150명,

바핫-모압 집안에서 스라히야의 아들 엘여호에내와 그 밖의 남자 200명,

삿두 집안에서 야하시엘의 아들 스가냐와 그 밖의 남자 300명.

Now these are the heads of their fathers' households and the genealogical enrollment of those who went up with me from Babylon in the reign of King Artaxerxes:

of the sons of Phinehas, Gershom; of the sons of Ithamar, Daniel; of the sons of David, Hattush;

of the sons of Shecaniah who was of the sons of Parosh, Zechariah and with him 150 males who were in the genealogical list;

of the sons of Pahath-moab, Eliehoenai the son of Zerahiah and 200 males with him;

of the sons of Zattu, Shecaniah, the son of Jahaziel and 300 males with him;

아딘 집안에서 요나단의 아들 에벳과 그 밖의 남자 50명,

엘람 집안에서 아달랴의 아들 여사야와 그 밖의 남자 70명,

스바댜 집안에서 미가엘의 아들 스바댜와 그 밖의 남자 80명,

요압 집안에서 여히엘의 아들 오바댜와 그 밖의 남자 218명,

바니 집안에서 요시뱌의 아들 슬로밋과 그 밖의 남자 160명,

and of the sons of Adin, Ebed the son of Jonathan and 50 males with him;

and of the sons of Elam, Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah and 70 males with him;

and of the sons of Shephatiah, Zebadiah the son of Michael and 80 males with him;

of the sons of Joab, Obadiah the son of Jehiel and 218 males with him;

and of the sons of Bani, Shelomith, the son of Josiphiah and 160 males with him;

베배 집안에서 베배의 아들 스가랴와 그 밖의 남자 28명,

아스갓 집안에서 학가단의 아들 요하난과 그 밖에 남자 110명,

아도니감 집안에서 마지막으로 돌아온 엘리벨렛과 여우엘과 스마야와 그 밖의 남자 60명,

비그왜 집안에서 우대와 하굴과 그밖의 남자 70명이었다.

우리는 아하와 강가에 모여 천막을 치고 거기서 3일을 머물면서 백성들과 제사장들의 인원을 점검했는데 그때 레위 사람은 하나도 없었다.

and of the sons of Bebai, Zechariah the son of Bebai and 28 males with him;

and of the sons of Azgad, Johanan the son of Hakkatan and 110 males with him;

and of the sons of Adonikam, the last ones, these being their names, Eliphelet, Jeuel and Shemaiah, and 60 males with them;

and of the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zabbud, and 70 males with them.

Now I assembled them at the river that runs to Ahava, where we camped for three days; and when I observed the people and the priests, I did not find any Levites there.

그래서 나 에스라는 레위 사람의 지도자인 엘리에셀, 아리엘, 스마야, 엘라단, 야립, 또 다른 엘라단, 나단, 스가랴, 므술람, 그리고 지혜로운 사람 요야립과 엘라단을 불러오게 하여

그들을 가시뱌 지방의 지도자 잇도에게 보내며 그와 그의 친척들과 성전 봉사자들에게 성전에서 하나님을 섬길 사람들을 보내 달라고 부탁하였다.

하나님이 우리를 도우셨으므로 그들은 마흘리 집안의 레위 사람인 유능한 세레뱌와 그리고 그의 아들들과 형제들을 합하여 모두 4명을 보내 주었고

또 하사뱌와 함께 므라리 집안의 여사야와 그의 친척 20명도 보내 주었다.

그 외에도 다윗과 그의 신하들이 레위인을 도와 잡일을 하게 할 성전 봉사자들 220명도 함께 보내 주었으며 그들의 이름은 귀환자 명단에 다 기록되었다.

So I sent for Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah and Meshullam, leading men, and for Joiarib and Elnathan, teachers.

I sent them to Iddo the leading man at the place Casiphia; and I told them what to say to Iddo and his brothers, the temple servants at the place Casiphia, that is, to bring ministers to us for the house of our God.

According to the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a man of insight of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel, namely Sherebiah, and his sons and brothers, 18 men;

and Hashabiah and Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, with his brothers and their sons, 20 men;

and 220 of the temple servants, whom David and the princes had given for the service of the Levites, all of them designated by name.
