- 그러므로 그리스도는 새 계약의 중재자가 되셨습니다. 이것은 첫 계약 아래서 범한 죄를 속죄하시려고 죽으셔서 하나님의 부르심을 받은 사람들이 약속된 영원한 축복을 받도록 하기 위한 것입니다.
- 유언이 효력을 나타내려면 유언한 사람이 반드시 죽어야 합니다.
- 그것은 유언한 사람이 살아 있으면 아무 효력도 없고 죽어야만 효력이 나타나기 때문입니다.
- 따라서 첫 계약도 피로써 효력을 갖게 되었습니다.
- 모세는 율법에 따라 모든 계명을 온 백성에게 말한 후에 송아지와 염소의 피를 물과 함께 가지고 와서 붉은 양털과 우슬초에 적셔 율법책과 모든 백성에게 뿌리면서

- And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
- For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
- For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
- Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.
- For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,

- '이것은 하나님이 여러분과 맺은 계약의 피입니다.' 라고 하였습니다.
- 그리고 그는 성막과 제사에 쓰이는 모든 물건에도 그와 같이 피를 뿌렸습니다.
- 율법에 의하면 거의 모든 것이 다 피로써 깨끗하게 되며 피흘림이 없으면 죄의 용서도 없습니다.
- 하늘에 있는 것들을 모방한 지상의 모형들은 이런 방법으로 깨끗하게 해야 했습니다. 그러나 하늘에 있는 것들은 이보다 더 나은 제물로 깨끗하게 해야 합니다.
- 그리스도께서는 참 성소의 모형에 불과한 사람의 손으로 만든 지상의 성소에 들어가신 것이 아니라 우리를 위해 하나님 앞에 나타나시려고 하늘에 있는 성소에 들어가셨습니다.

- Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
- Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
- And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
- It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
- For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

- 대제사장은 자기의 피가 아닌 짐승의 피를 가지고 해마다 지성소에 들어갔으나 그리스도께서는 자주 자기를 드릴 필요가 없었습니다.
- 만일 그렇게 해야 한다면 그리스도께서 세상이 창조될 때부터 자주 고난을 받았어야 했을 것입니다. 그러나 이제 그리스도는 자기를 제물로 드려 죄를 없애려고 역사의 끝에 단번에 나타나셨습니다.
- 사람이 한 번 죽는 것은 정해진 운명이지만 죽은 후에는 심판이 있습니다.
- 이와 같이 그리스도께서도 많은 사람의 죄를 없애려고 단번에 희생의 제물이 되셨습니다. 그리고 다시 오실 때에는 죄를 위해서가 아니라 자기를 기다리는 사람들에게 구원을 주시기 위해서 두 번째 나타나실 것입니다.

- Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
- For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
- And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
- So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
