창세기 30:1-30:43

 야곱은 라헬과 레아의 여종들까지 동원한 경쟁적 출산으로 열한 아들을 얻었다. 야곱은 라반에게 품삯을 요구하여 양들 중에서 아롱진 것, 점 있는 것, 얼룩 무늬 있는 것을 자신의 몫으로 정한 후 바라봄의 법칙을 사용하여 풍부한 소유를 갖게 되었다.
  
  레아와 라헬의 출산 경쟁(30:1-30:24)    
 
  1. And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.
  2. And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?
  3. And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.
  4. And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.
  5. And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son.
  1. 한편 라헬은 야곱에게 아기를 낳아주지 못하게 되자 언니를 시새우며 야곱에게 투덜거렸다. "저도 자식을 갖게 해주셔요. 그러지 않으면 죽어버리겠어요."
  2. 야곱은 라헬에게 화를 내며 야단을 쳤다. "하느님께서 당신의 태를 닫아 아기를 못 낳게 하시는데 나더러 어떻게 하란 말이오?"
  3. 그러자 라헬이 말하였다. "저에게 몸종 빌하가 있지 않습니까? 그의 방에 드셔요. 빌하가 혹시 아기를 낳아 제 무릎에 안겨줄지 압니까? 빌하의 몸에서라도 아들을 얻어 당신의 혈통을 이어드리고 싶어요."
  4. 라헬은 몸종 빌하를 야곱의 소실로 들여보냈다. 야곱이 그와 한자리에 들었더니
  5. 빌하가 마침 임신하여 야곱의 아들을 낳았다.
  1. And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan.
  2. And Bilhah Rachel's maid conceived again, and bare Jacob a second son.
  3. And Rachel said, With great wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali.
  4. When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife.
  5. And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a son.
  1. 라헬은 "하느님께서 내 사정을 바로 보살펴 내 호소를 들으시고 나에게 아들을 주셨구나." 하면서 아기의 이름을 단이라 불렀다.
  2. 라헬의 몸종 빌하가 또 임신하여 야곱에게 두 번째로 아들을 낳아주었다.
  3. 라헬은 "내가 언니와 겨루는데 하느님께서 편들어주셔서 드디어 이겼구나." 하면서 아기 이름을 납달리라 불렀다.
  4. 레아는 다시 아기를 낳지 못할 줄 알고 몸종 질바를 야곱에게 소실로 들여보냈다.
  5. 레아의 몸종 질바도 야곱에게 아들을 낳아주었다.
  1. And Leah said, A troop cometh: and she called his name Gad.
  2. And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a second son.
  3. And Leah said, Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed: and she called his name Asher.
  4. And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes.
  5. And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son's mandrakes.
  1. 레아는 "행운이 돌아왔구나." 하면서 아기 이름을 가드라 불렀다.
  2. 레아의 몸종 질바가 야곱에게 두 번째로 아들을 낳아주었다.
  3. 레아는 "참 잘 됐다. 모든 여자가 나를 행복한 여자라 부르겠지." 하면서 아기 이름을 아셀이라 불렀다.
  4. 보리를 거둘 때가 되어 르우벤이 밭에 나갔다가 자귀나무를 발견하여 어머니 레아에게 갖다드렸다. 라헬이 이것을 알고 레아에게 졸라댔다. "언니 아들이 캐어 온 자귀나무를 좀 나누어주구려."
  5. 그러나 레아는 "네가 나에게서 남편을 빼앗고도 무엇이 부족해서 이제 내 아들이 캐 온 자귀나무마저 달라느냐?" 하며 역정을 내었다. 그러자 라헬은 "언니 아들이 캐온 자귀나무를 주면 오늘 밤 그분을 언니 방에 드시도록 하리다." 하였다.
  1. And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.
  2. And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob the fifth son.
  3. And Leah said, God hath given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his name Issachar.
  4. And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son.
  5. And Leah said, God hath endued me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun.
  1. 저녁때가 되어 야곱이 밭에서 돌아오자 레아가 나가서 맞으며 "당신은 오늘 제 집에 드셔야 합니다." 하며 자기 아들이 캐 온 자귀나무로 치른 값을 해달라고 하였다. 야곱은 그 날 밤 레아와 한자리에 들었다.
  2. 하느님은 레아의 호소를 들으시고 레아에게 아기를 점지해 주셨다. 그리하여 레아는 야곱에게 다섯 번째 아들을 낳아주었다.
  3. 레아는 "내가 남편에게 내 몸종을 드린 값을 이제 하느님께서 갚아주셨구나." 하면서 아기 이름을 이싸갈이라 불렀다.
  4. 레아가 다시 임신해서 여섯 번째로 야곱에게 아들을 낳아주었다.
  5. 레아는 "하느님께서 이렇듯이 나에게 좋은 선물을 주시다니. 내가 남편에게 아들을 여섯이나 낳아드렸으니 이제는 그분이 나를 위해주시겠지." 하면서 아기 이름을 즈불룬이라 불렀다.
  1. And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah.
  2. And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.
  3. And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach:
  4. And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.
  1. 그 후 레아는 또 딸을 낳고 이름을 디나라 불렀다.
  2. 하느님께서는 라헬도 돌보시어 그의 기도를 들으시고 그의 태를 열어주셨다.
  3. 마침내 라헬은 임신하여 아들을 낳고는 "하느님께서 나의 부끄러움을 씻어주셨다." 하면서
  4. 아기 이름을 요셉이라 부르고 "야훼께서 나에게 아들을 하나 더 점지해 주시면 오죽이나 좋으랴!" 하였다.
 
  라반과 야곱의 임금 계약(30:25-30:43)    
 
  1. And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.
  2. Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee.
  3. And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.
  4. And he said, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.
  5. And he said unto him, Thou knowest how I have served thee, and how thy cattle was with me.
  1. 라헬이 요셉을 낳은 다음 야곱이 라반에게 청하였다. "저를 제 고장, 제 땅으로 보내주십시오.
  2. 제가 장인 어른을 도와드린 값으로 얻은 두 아내와 자식들을 내주어 돌아가게 해주십시오. 제가 장인을 어떻게 섬겼는지 장인은 잘 아시지 않습니까?"
  3. 그러자 "내 생각도 좀 해다오." 하며 라반이 말하였다. "내가 점을 쳐보니, 내가 받은 이 복은 야훼께서 너를 보고 주신 복이더구나."
  4. 라반은 다시 말을 이었다. "품값은 네가 말하는 대로 줄 터이다. 말해 보아라."
  5. 그가 대답하였다. "제가 장인을 어떻게 섬겼는지 장인은 아십니다. 제가 돌보는 동안에 장인의 가축이 얼마나 불었는지도 아실 것입니다.
  1. For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?
  2. And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any thing: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock.
  3. I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire.
  4. So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire before thy face: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen with me.
  5. And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to thy word.
  1. 제가 여기 왔을 때만해도 장인의 재산은 보잘것없었습니다. 그런데 지금은 얼마나 불었습니까? 제 손이 가는 일 하나하나가 모두 장인께 내리는 야훼의 복이 되었습니다. 그런데 저는 언제쯤이나 제 일이라고 해보겠습니까?"
  2. 라반이 물었다. "그러면 어떻게 해주랴?" 그가 대답하였다. "아무것도 안 주셔도 됩니다. 다만 이렇게만 해주신다면 장인의 양떼를 다시 먹이며 돌보겠습니다.
  3. 오늘 제가 장인의 양떼를 모두 돌아보고 그 가운데서 검은 양 새끼와 얼룩지고 점 있는 염소를 골라내겠습니다. 그것을 삯으로 주십시오.
  4. 훗날 오셔서, 제가 삯으로 받은 양떼를 보시면 제가 얼마나 정직한가를 아시게 될 것입니다. 만일 제가 차지한 몫 가운데 얼룩지지도 않고 점도 없는 염소가 있거나 검지 않은 양 새끼가 있으면 제가 훔친 것이라고 하셔도 아무 말 않겠습니다."
  5. 라반은 "그게 좋겠다. 네 말대로 하자." 하고 쾌히 승낙하고
  1. And he removed that day the he goats that were ringstraked and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.
  2. And he set three days' journey betwixt himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.
  3. And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.
  4. And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink.
  5. And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.
  1. 그 날로 희끗희끗한 줄무늬가 있거나 얼룩점이 있는 숫염소와 희끗희끗한 줄무늬가 있거나 얼룩점이 있는 암염소와 검은 양 새끼를 모두 빼돌려 자기 아들들에게 맡겨 돌보게 하였다.
  2. 그리고 라반은 사흘길 갈 만큼 야곱을 멀리 떼어놓고 나머지 양들을 치게 하였다.
  3. 야곱은 미류나무와 감복숭아나무와 플라타너스 푸른 가지들을 꺾어 흰 줄무늬가 나게 껍질을 벗겼다.
  4. 야곱은 껍질을 벗긴 그 가지들을 물 먹이는 구유 안에 세워놓아 양떼가 와서 그것을 보면서 물을 먹게 하였다. 양들은 물을 먹으러 와서 거기에서 교미하였다.
  5. 양들은 그 나뭇가지들 앞에서 교미하고는 줄무늬가 있거나 얼룩진 새끼를 낳았다.
  1. And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban's cattle.
  2. And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.
  3. But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's.
  4. And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.
  1. 야곱은 그런 양 새끼들을 가려놓았다. 라반의 양떼 가운데서 줄무늬가 있는 것이나 검은 것은 그 양떼에서 가려내었다. 이렇게 자기 양떼를 라반의 양 무리와 섞이지 않게 가려내었다.
  2. 그런데 야곱은 양떼 가운데서도 튼튼한 것들이 교미할 때만 그 나뭇가지들을 구유 안에 세워놓아 양들이 그것을 보면서 교미하게 하였다.
  3. 그러나 약한 양들이 교미할 때는 그 나뭇가지들을 세워놓지 않았다. 그래서 약한 새끼들은 라반의 것이 되고 튼튼한 것들은 야곱의 것이 되었다.
  4. 이렇게 해서 야곱은 아주 큰 부자가 되었다. 양떼뿐 아니라 남종과 여종, 낙타와 나귀도 많았다.
 
  합환채(合歡菜, 30:14)  희귀 식물인 멘드레이크. 임신을 촉진하는 효능이 있는 식물로 알려짐
