신명기 2:1-3:22

 모세는 가데스 바네아에서 벧브올까지의 여정을 회고하면서 그 동안 이스라엘 민족이 겪었던 일들을 언급했다. 에돔, 모압, 암몬 족속을 괴롭게 하지 말라는 하나님의 말씀에 따라 그들의 땅을 우회한 이스라엘은 헤스본 왕 시혼과 바산 왕 옥을 정복했다. 요단 강 동편 지역은 므낫세 반 지파와 르우벤, 갓 지파에게 분배되었다.
  
  광야 여정에 대한 회고(2:1-3:22)    
 
  1. Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD spake unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days.
  2. And the LORD spake unto me, saying,
  3. Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
  4. And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:
  5. Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession.
  1. 우리는 야훼께서 나에게 명하신 대로 발길을 돌려 홍해 쪽 광야 길로 들어섰다. 그리고 세일 산 일대를 오랫동안 돌아다니는 중에,
  2. 야훼께서 나에게 이르셨다.
  3. '이 산 일대를 이만큼 돌아다녔으면 됐다. 이제 북쪽으로 발길을 돌려라.
  4. 이제 너는 백성에게 지시하여라. - 너희는 세일에 사는 에사오 후손의 지경을 지나가게 되었다. 그들은 너희와는 동기간이다. 그들은 너희를 무서워하고 있으니, 각별히 조심하여
  5. 그들과 다투는 일이 없도록 하여라. 나는 그들이 사는 땅을 한 치도 너희에게 주지 아니하리라. 세일 산은 내가 에사오에게 준 유산이다.
  1. Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink.
  2. For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
  3. And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
  4. And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.
  5. The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims;
  1. 그들에게서 곡식을 얻어먹으려면 반드시 값을 치러야 하고, 물을 얻어먹으려고 해도 반드시 값을 치러야 한다.
  2. 너희의 하느님 야훼는 너희가 하는 모든 일에 복을 내리고, 이 막막한 광야를 돌아다니는 동안 너희를 보살펴 주었으며, 지난 사십 년 동안 너희의 하느님 야훼가 함께 있어 너희에게 무엇 하나 아쉬운 것이 없지 않았느냐?'
  3. 그리하여 우리는 엘랏과 에시욘게벨을 떠나 사막 길을 따라 세일에 사는 우리의 동기 에사오의 후손이 있는 곳을 비켜 지나왔다. 또 발길을 돌려 모압 광야에 이르는 길로 들어섰을 때
  4. 야훼께서 나에게 이르셨다. '모압을 치지 마라. 그들을 성가시게 하여 싸움을 일으키지도 마라. 나는 그들이 유산으로 받은 땅을 한 치도 너희에게 주지 아니하리라. 아르는 내가 롯의 후손에게 준 유산이다.'
  5. 거기에는 한때 에밈이라는 강대한 백성이 살고 있었다. 그들은 수효도 많았거니와 아나킴에 못지않게 키도 컸다.
  1. Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites called them Emims.
  2. The Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.
  3. Now rise up, said I, and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.
  4. And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD sware unto them.
  5. For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.
  1. 그들도 아나킴처럼 거인족으로 알려진 사람들인데 모압인들은 그들을 에밈이라고 불렀다.
  2. 세일에는 한때 호리족들이 살고 있었는데 에사오의 후손이 그들을 몰아내어 멸종시키고 그 땅을 차지하였다. 이스라엘이 야훼께 받은 땅을 차지한 경위와 같다.
  3. '이제 일어나 세렛 개울을 건너라.' 하고 말씀하셨으므로 우리는 곧 세렛 개울을 건넜다.
  4. 그러나 카데스바르네아를 떠나 세렛 개울을 건너기까지 삼십팔 년이라는 세월이 흐르는 동안, 야훼께서 이미 맹세하신 대로 군인들의 한 세대가 다 죽어 진지에서 사라져갔다.
  5. 야훼의 손이 그들을 내리쳐서 한 사람 남기지 않고 진지에서 쓸어내셨던 것이다.
  1. So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,
  2. That the LORD spake unto me, saying,
  3. Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day:
  4. And when thou comest nigh over against the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle with them: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.
  5. (That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims;
  1. 이렇게 모든 군인이 하나도 남지 않고 다 죽어 백성 가운데서 자취를 감추게 된 다음에
  2. 야훼께서 나에게 이르셨다.
  3. '너는 오늘 바야흐로 모압 지경 아르를 지나
  4. 암몬 백성이 사는 곳에 다다르게 되었다. 너는 그들을 치지 마라. 그들을 성가시게 하지도 마라. 나는 암몬 백성의 땅을 한 치도 너에게 주지 아니하리라. 그 땅은 내가 롯의 후손에게 준 유산이다.'
  5. 그 곳도 거인족의 땅으로 알려진 곳이다. 한때 거기에 거인족이 살고 있었는데 암몬 사람들은 그들을 잠줌밈이라고 불렀다.
  1. A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead:
  2. As he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day:
  3. And the Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Azzah, the Caphtorims, which came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)
  4. Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.
  5. This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.
  1. 그들은 강대한 백성으로 수효도 많았거니와 아나킴에 못지않게 키도 컸다. 야훼께서 그들을 암몬 사람들 앞에서 멸종시키셨으므로 그들이 살던 땅을 암몬 사람들이 차지하고 거기에서 살게 되었던 것이다.
  2. 호리인들을 오늘날 세일에 사는 에사오의 후손들 앞에서 멸종시키시고 에사오의 후손들로 하여금 그 땅을 차지하여 살게 하신 경위와 같다.
  3. 가자에 이르는 여러 부락에 살던 아위인들의 경우도 마찬가지다. 갑돌에서 온 갑돌인이 그들을 멸종시키고 그들이 살던 곳에 자리를 잡았던 것이다.
  4. '일어나 떠나라. 아르논 개울을 건너라. 보라. 헤스본 왕 아모리인 시혼과 그의 땅을 내가 너희의 손에 부쳤다. 하나씩 점령해 가거라. 성가시게 하여 싸움을 걸어라.
  5. 내가 오늘로부터 만천하 백성으로 하여금 너희를 무서워하여 떨게 하리니, 너희의 소문을 듣는 사람마다 부들부들 떨리라.'
  1. And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,
  2. Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.
  3. Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet;
  4. (As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God giveth us.
  5. But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day.
  1. 나는 크데못 광야에서 헤스본 왕 시혼에게 사절단을 보내어 문안하고 요청하였다.
  2. '내가 왕의 땅을 지나가려고 하오. 오른쪽으로도 왼쪽으로도 들어서지 않고 길만 따라가겠소.
  3. 곡식을 판다면 사 먹겠으며, 물도 판다면 사 마시겠소. 걸어서 지나가게만 해주시오.
  4. 세일에 사는 에사오의 후손도 우리를 지나가게 해주었고 아르에 사는 모압 사람들도 지나가게 해주었소. 요르단 강을 건너 우리 하느님 야훼께서 우리에게 주시는 땅으로 건너가야 하겠소.'
  5. 그러나 헤스본 왕 시혼은 우리를 통과시키지 않았다. 오늘날처럼 그를 너희의 지배 아래 두시려고 너희 하느님 야훼께서 그에게 완강한 마음을 주시어 고집을 부리게 만드셨던 것이다.
  1. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.
  2. Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.
  3. And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.
  4. And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:
  5. Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.
  1. 그리고 야훼께서 나에게 이르셨다. '보아라. 내가 바야흐로 시혼과 그의 땅을 너에게 넘겨줄 터이니, 이제부터 그의 땅을 하나씩 차지하도록 하여라.'
  2. 과연 시혼은 우리를 치러 나왔다. 그는 자기 온 백성을 거느리고 나와서 야하스에서 우리와 싸움을 벌였지만,
  3. 우리 하느님 야훼께서 그를 우리에게 넘겨주셨으므로, 우리는 그와 그의 아들과 그의 온 백성을 쳐부술 수 있었다.
  4. 그 때 우리는 그의 성읍들을 모조리 점령하고 남자, 여자, 아이 구별하지 않고 모든 주민을 전멸시켰다.
  5. 다만 가축은 죽이는 대신 전리품으로 삼았으며 점령한 성읍들을 약탈하였다.
  1. From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:
  2. Only unto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever the LORD our God forbad us.
  1. 아르논 개울가 언덕 위에 있는 성 아로엘에서 길르앗에 이르기까지 우리가 점령하지 못한 성읍이 없었다. 우리 하느님 야훼께서 그 전 지역을 우리에게 주셨던 것이다.
  2. 그러나 너희는 암몬 백성의 땅이나 야뽁 개울가나 산악 지대에 있는 성읍들, 또는 우리 하느님 야훼께서 우리에게 가지 말라고 하신 그 어느 곳에도 접근하지 않았다.
 
 
  1. Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.
  2. And the LORD said unto me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into thy hand; and thou shalt do unto him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
  3. So the LORD our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him until none was left to him remaining.
  4. And we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we took not from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
  5. All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; beside unwalled towns a great many.
  1. 다시 우리는 발길을 돌려 바산 쪽으로 올라가는데 바산 왕 옥이 우리를 치러 나왔다. 그는 자기 온 백성을 거느리고 나와서 에드레이에서 우리와 싸움을 벌였다.
  2. 야훼께서 나에게 이르셨다. '그를 두려워하지 마라. 내가 그와 그의 온 백성과 그의 땅을 네 손에 부쳤다. 헤스본에 사는 아모리 왕 시혼을 해치웠듯이 그도 해치워라.'
  3. 우리 하느님 야훼께서 바산 왕 옥과 그의 온 백성도 우리의 손에 부쳐주셨으므로 우리는 그들을 하나 남기지 않고 쳐죽일 수 있었다.
  4. 그 때에 우리는 그의 성읍들을 하나도 빠뜨리지 않고 모조리 점령하였다. 바산에 있는 아르곱 전 지역을 옥이 다스리고 있었는데, 거기에는 성읍이 육십 개나 있었다.
  5. 그 모든 성읍들은 높은 성과 성문과 빗장으로 든든하게 방비되어 있었다. 그 밖에도 성벽이 없는 시골 마을들이 매우 많았다.
  1. And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city.
  2. But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to ourselves.
  3. And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was on this side Jordan, from the river of Arnon unto mount Hermon;
  4. (Which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion; and the Amorites call it Shenir;)
  5. All the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, unto Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
  1. 우리는 헤스본 왕 시혼을 전멸시켰듯이 그들도 전멸시켰다. 모든 성읍에서 남자, 여자, 아이 구별하지 않고 전멸시키고,
  2. 모든 가축과 성읍들에서 노획한 물건은 전리품으로 삼았다.
  3. 이렇게 우리는 아르논 계곡에서 헤르몬 산에 이르는 땅을 요르단 강 건너편에 있는 두 아모리 왕의 손에서 빼앗았다.
  4. 헤르몬을 시돈 사람들은 시룐이라고 부르고 아모리인들은 스닐이라고 불렀다.
  5. 고원 지대에 있는 모든 성읍들과 살가와 에드레이에 이르는 길르앗 일대와 바산 일대와 바산에 있는 옥의 나라 성읍들을 우리가 차지하게 된 것이다.
  1. For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.
  2. And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites.
  3. And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants.
  4. Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashanhavothjair, unto this day.
  5. And I gave Gilead unto Machir.
  1. 바산 왕 옥은 거인족 가운데서 남은 마지막 사람이었다. 쇠로 만든 그의 침대는 지금도 암몬 백성이 사는 라빠에 있는데, 보통 자로 재어 그 길이가 아홉 자, 나비가 넉 자나 된다.
  2. 우리가 이 땅을 차지한 것은 그 때였다. 그리고 나는 아르논 계곡 언덕에 있는 아로엘에서 시작하여 길르앗 산악 지대 절반에 이르는 지역을 거기에 있는 성읍들과 함께 르우벤 지파와 가드 지파에게 주었다.
  3. 그리고 나머지 길르앗 지방과 옥의 나라 바산 일대, 곧 아르곱 전 지역을 므나쎄 지파의 반에게 주었다. 이 바산의 전 지역도 거인족의 땅이라고 불리어 왔다.
  4. 아르곱의 전 지역 곧 바산은 그술인과 마아가인의 지경에 이르렀는데, 므나쎄의 아들 야이르가 그 지방을 차지하였다. 그리고는 그 지방을 자기의 이름을 따라 하우옷야이르라고 불렀는데, 오늘까지도 그렇게 불리고 있는 것이다.
  5. 나는 길르앗을 마길에게 주었고,
  1. And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;
  2. The plain also, and Jordan, and the coast thereof, from Chinnereth even unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdothpisgah eastward.
  3. And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God hath given you this land to possess it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all that are meet for the war.
  4. But your wives, and your little ones, and your cattle, (for I know that ye have much cattle,) shall abide in your cities which I have given you;
  5. Until the LORD have given rest unto your brethren, as well as unto you, and until they also possess the land which the LORD your God hath given them beyond Jordan: and then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given you.
  1. 길르앗에서 아르논 개울에 이르는 지역과 야뽁 개울에 이르는 지역을 그 두 개울 바닥을 경계로 하여 르우벤과 가드에게 주었는데, 야뽁 개울은 암몬 백성과의 경계이기도 하였다.
  2. 아라바와 요르단 강이 또한 경계선을 이루는데, 긴네렛에서 아라바 호수라고도 하는 사해에 이른다. 사해는 해 뜨는 쪽에 있는 비스가 산 기슭에 있다.
  3. 그 때에 나는 너희에게 지시하였다. '너희의 하느님 야훼께서 이 땅을 너희에게 주어 차지하게 하셨다. 너희 정예부대 모든 용사들은 너희 겨레인 이스라엘 백성들의 앞장을 서서 건너야 한다.
  4. 다만 너희의 아내와 어린것들과 가축은, 너희에게 가축이 많을 줄 내가 안다, 내가 너희에게 준 땅에 있는 성읍들에 머물러 있게 하여라.
  5. 야훼께서 너희를 정착시켰듯이 너희의 형제들도 정착시키실 것이다. 그들이 너희의 하느님 야훼께서 요르단 강 건너편에 마련해 주신 땅을 차지하게 된 다음에라야 너희는 나에게 받은 땅으로 각기 돌아올 수 있으리라.'
  1. And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto these two kings: so shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms whither thou passest.
  2. Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.
  1. 그 때에 나는 여호수아에게 명령하였다. '너의 하느님 야훼께서 이 두 왕을 어떻게 다루셨는지 너는 두 눈으로 똑똑히 보았다. 야훼께서는 네가 이제 지나가려는 나라들도 그처럼 다루시리라.
  2. 너는 그들을 두려워하지 마라. 너의 하느님 야훼께서 몸소 너의 싸움을 싸워주실 것이다.'
