	사무엘상 26:1-28:25 사울은 다윗을 추격하다가 오히려 다윗에게 죽을 위기를 맞았으나 다윗은 또다시 그를 살려 주었다. 사울을 두려워한 다윗은 가드 왕 아기스에게 도피하였다. 블레셋의 침략에 위급해진 사울은 엔돌의 신접한 여인을 찾아가 사무엘의 혼을 불러 올리게 하였다. 그에게 나타난 사무엘은 사울의 범죄를 지적하며 그의 몰락과 죽음을 예고했다.

	사울을 다시 살려 준 다윗(26:1-26:25)

And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?

Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed.

And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him.

지브 사람들이 기브아로 사울을 찾아가 아뢰었다. "다윗이 여시몬 맞은편 하길라 언덕에 숨어 있는 것이 확실합니다."

사울은 곧 이스라엘 정병 삼천을 거느리고 다윗을 찾아 지브 광야로 내려갔다.

사울은 여시몬 맞은편 하길라 언덕 길가에 진을 쳤다. 다윗은 그 곳 광야에 머물러 있다가 사울이 자기를 찾아 광야로 왔다는 것을 알게 되었다.

다윗은 정찰대를 파견하여 사울이 맞은편에 와 있는 것을 알아내고

사울이 진을 치고 있는 곳으로 가보니 사울이 넬의 아들 아브넬 사령관과 함께 누워 있었다. 사울은 전군이 둘러 진치고 있는 원형 진지 한가운데서 자고 있었던 것이다.

Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee.

So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him.

Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.

And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD's anointed, and be guiltless?

David said furthermore, As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.

다윗은 헷 사람 아히멜렉과 스루야의 아들 요압의 형제인 아비새에게 누가 자기와 함께 사울의 진으로 내려가겠느냐고 물었다. "제가 내려가겠습니다." 하고 아비새가 나섰다.

다윗은 그를 데리고 밤을 타서 적진으로 들어갔다. 그 곳에 이르러 그는 사울이 그 원형진지 안에서 머리맡에 창을 꽂아놓고 잠들어 있는 것을 보았다. 아브넬이 거느린 군대도 사울을 둘러싸고 누워 자고 있었다.

이것을 보고 아비새가 다윗에게 말하였다. "하느님께서는 오늘 이 원수를 장군님 손에 부치셨으니 여기 이 창으로 그를 단번에 땅에 박아놓겠습니다. 두 번 찌를 것도 없습니다."

다윗이 아비새를 타일렀다. "그렇게 해치워서는 안 된다. 누가 감히 야훼께서 기름 부어 세우신 어른에게 손을 대고 죄를 받지 않겠느냐?"

다윗은 다시 말을 이었다. "사울은 어차피 야훼께 얻어 맞을 분이다. 때가 되어서 죽든지 싸움터에 내려가 최후를 마치든지 할 분이다.

The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD's anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.

So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them.

Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them:

And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king?

And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.

내가 야훼께서 기름 부어 세우신 어른에게 손을 댔다가는 야훼께 벌을 받으리라. 그러니 그의 머리맡에 있는 창과 물병만 가지고 가자."

다윗은 사울의 머리맡에서 창과 물병을 가지고 빠져 나왔다. 야훼께서 그들을 모두 깊이 잠들게 하셨으므로 다윗을 본 사람도, 눈치챈 사람도 없었다.

다윗은 건너편으로 건너가 멀리 산꼭대기에 서서

적군을 향하여 넬의 아들 아브넬에게 소리쳤다. "아브넬아, 내 말이 들리지 않느냐?" 아브넬이 "왕께서 계신 데다 대고 소리치는 자가 누구냐?" 하며 대꾸하자

다윗이 호통을 쳤다. "너는 사내 대장부가 아니냐? 이스라엘에 너 같은 사내 대장부가 또 어디 있느냐? 그런데 이 쪽에서 군인 하나가 네 상전인 왕을 해하려고 들어갔는데도 네 상전인 왕을 지키지 못하다니

This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD's anointed. And now see where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.

And Saul knew David's voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king.

And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand?

Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods.

Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.

네가 어찌 이럴 수 있느냐? 너희는 야훼께서 기름 부어 세우신 상전을 지키지 못했으니 너야말로 죽어 마땅한 놈이다. 왕의 머리맡에 있던 창과 물병이 어디 갔는지 당장 찾아보아라."

사울이 다윗의 목소리를 알아보고 물었다. "내 아들 다윗아, 이것이 네 목소리가 아니냐?" 다윗은 "그렇습니다, 임금님." 하면서

말하였다. "임금님께서 소자를 추적하시다니 웬일이십니까? 제가 무슨 짓을 했단 말씀입니까? 무슨 흉계라도 꾸몄다는 말씀입니까?

임금님께서는 이제 소자가 아뢰는 말씀을 들어주십시오. 만일 소자가 임금님의 손에 죽는 것이 야훼의 뜻이라면 저는 기꺼이 제물이 되겠습니다. 그러나 만일 이것이 사람의 생각이라면 그들이 야훼께 저주를 받을 것입니다. 그들은 지금 야훼께서 주신 이 땅에서 나를 쫓아내려는 것입니다. 가서 다른 신이나 섬기라고 하는 것입니다.

이제 야훼 앞을 벗어난 이 땅에 제 피를 흘려야만 되겠습니까? 이스라엘 왕께서 산으로 꿩을 잡으러 나서듯이 벼룩 한 마리를 찾아 나서신 것입니까?"

Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.

And David answered and said, Behold the king's spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.

The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the LORD delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD's anointed.

And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.

Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

그러자 사울은 "내가 잘못했다. 내 아들 다윗아, 돌아오너라. 네가 오늘 내 목숨을 그렇게 소중하게 보아주었는데, 내가 어찌 다시 너를 해치겠느냐? 내가 미치지 않고서야 이렇게 엄청난 잘못을 저지를 수 있겠느냐?" 하면서 사과하였다.

다윗이 대답하였다. "여기 임금님의 창이 있습니다. 부하 하나를 보내시어 가져가십시오.

야훼께서는 누구든지 참되게 살기만 하면 그대로 갚아주시는 분이십니다. 오늘 야훼께서 임금님을 제 손에 부치셨지만 저는 손을 댈 마음이 없었습니다. 임금님은 야훼께서 기름 부어 세우신 분이 아니십니까?

이렇게 제가 임금님의 목숨을 귀중하게 보아드렸으니, 야훼께서도 제 목숨을 귀하게 여기시어 온갖 재난에서 구해 주실 것입니다."

사울이 다윗에게 말하였다. "내 아들 다윗아, 너야말로 훌륭하구나. 네가 하려고 하면 무슨 일인들 못하겠느냐?" 다윗은 자기의 갈 길을 가고 사울은 궁으로 돌아갔다.

	다윗의 블레셋 망명(27:1-27:12)

And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.

And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal's wife.

And it was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.

And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?

다윗은 속으로 생각하였다. "나는 언제고 사울의 손에 죽을 것이다. 그러니 불레셋 땅으로 망명하는 것이 상책이겠다. 사울은 나를 이스라엘 안에서만 찾다가 결국 단념하고 말겠지. 그러면 나는 그 손에서 벗어나게 될 것이다."

이렇게 생각하고 다윗은 생사를 같이하던 부하 육백 명을 거느리고 길을 떠나 갓으로 가서 마옥의 아들 아기스 왕에게 몸을 의탁하였다.

다윗 일행은 각자 가족을 동반하고 갓으로 가서 아기스에게 몸붙여 살게 되었다. 다윗이 거느리고 간 두 아내는 이즈르엘 여자 아히노암과 나발의 아내였던 가르멜 여자 아비가일이었다.

사울은 다윗이 갓으로 망명했다는 말을 듣고 다시는 찾아 나서지 않았다.

다윗이 아기스에게 청하였다. "소인에게 은혜를 베풀어 소인이 가서 살 지방 도시 하나를 내어주십시오. 소인이 어찌 왕도에 감히 함께 머물러 있겠습니까?"

Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: wherefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.

And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.

And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.

And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish.

And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites.

아기스는 그 날로 시글락을 다윗에게 맡겼다. 그리하여 시글락이 이 날까지 유다 왕실에 속하게 된 것이다.

다윗은 그 불레셋 지방에서 일 년 사 개월 동안 살았다.

다윗은 부하들을 거느리고 그술족과 기르스족과 아말렉족이 있는 곳으로 올라가 그들을 털곤 하였다. 그들은 옛날부터 수르와 이집트로 가는 길목의 지방에 살고 있었다.

다윗이 그 지방으로 쳐들어가 남녀를 가리지 않고 죽이고 나서 양과 소와 나귀와 낙타와 옷가지들을 약탈하여 돌아오자

아기스가 "오늘 누구를 털어가지고 오는 길이오?" 하고 물었다. "유다 남부와 여라므엘족이 사는 지방 남부, 켄족이 사는 지방 남부를 털어왔습니다." 하고 다윗은 대답하였다.

And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring tidings to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell on us, saying, So did David, and so will be his manner all the while he dwelleth in the country of the Philistines.

And Achish believed David, saying, He hath made his people Israel utterly to abhor him; therefore he shall be my servant for ever.

다윗이 남녀를 하나도 갓으로 끌어오지 않고 모두 죽인 것은 자기가 한 일을 고해 바치지 못하게 하려는 것이었다. 다윗은 불레셋 지방에 머물러 있는 동안 줄곧 이렇게 해 왔다.

아기스는 그런 줄도 모르고 "다윗이 제 동족 이스라엘에게서 미움을 사고는 이제 아주 내 종이 되었구나." 하며 다윗을 철석같이 믿게 되었다.

	엔돌의 무당을 찾아간 사울(28:1-28:25)

And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men.

And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of mine head for ever.

Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.

And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in Gilboa.

And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled.

불레셋 군이 이스라엘을 치려고 동원령을 내린 때였다. 아기스가 다윗에게 일렀다. "그대는 부하를 거느리고 우리 대열에 끼여 같이 출전하게 될 터이니 그리 아시오."

다윗이 "알았습니다. 분부만 내리시면 그대로 하겠습니다." 하고 선뜻 대답하자 아기스는 다윗에게 "그렇다면, 나는 장군을 나의 종신호위대장으로 삼겠소." 하였다.

사무엘은 이미 죽어 이스라엘 온 국민의 애도 속에 고향 라마에 묻혔다. 한편 사울은 혼백을 불러내는 무당과 박수를 나라에서 몰아내었다.

불레셋 군이 수넴에 집결하여 진을 치자 사울도 이스라엘 전군을 길보아에 집결시켜 진을 치기는 했지만

불레셋 진영을 본 사울은 몹시 겁에 질렸다.

And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.

And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?

And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.

그래서 사울은 야훼께 어떻게 하면 좋겠는가 여쭈어보았다. 그러나 야훼께서는 꿈으로도, 우림으로도, 예언자로도 대답해 주지 않으셨다.

그리하여 사울은 신하들에게 "혼백을 불러내는 무당을 찾아보아라. 내가 가서 물어봐야 하겠다." 하고 영을 내렸다. 신하들이 "엔도르에 혼백을 불러내는 무당이 있습니다." 하고 아뢰자

사울은 남이 알아보지 못하게 옷을 갈아 입고는 두 신하를 데리고 밤에 그 여자를 찾아가서 "내가 말하는 혼백을 불러내어 내 운수를 보아다오." 하고 청하였다.

그 여자가 사울에게 "당신은 혼백을 불러내는 무당과 박수가 이 땅에서 왕명으로 근절된 것을 모르십니까? 그런데 생사람을 잡으려고 이 목에 올가미를 씌우시는 겁니까?" 하고 대답하자

사울은 야훼 앞에서 맹세하였다. "내가 살아 계신 야훼 앞에서 맹세한다. 이 일로 자네에게 죄가 돌아가는 일은 결코 없으리라."

Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.

And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.

And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth.

And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself.

And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.

그러자 여인이 물었다. "누구를 불러드릴까요?" 그가 대답하였다. "사무엘을 불러다오."

그 여자는 사무엘이 나타난 것을 보고 놀라 소리치며 사울에게 물었다. "어찌하여 저를 속이셨습니까? 당신은 사울 임금님이 아니십니까?"

왕이 말하였다. "두려워 마라. 무엇이 보이는지 말만 하여라." 그 여자는 "지하에서 유령이 올라오는 것이 보입니다." 하고 대답하였다.

사울이 다시 그 여자에게 "어떤 모습이냐?" 하고 묻자 "도포를 입은 노인이 올라옵니다." 하고 대답하였다. 이 말에 사울은 그가 사무엘인 줄 알고 얼굴을 땅에 대고 절을 하였다.

사무엘이 사울에게 물었다. "무슨 일로 나를 불러내어 성가시게 구느냐?" 사울이 대답하였다. "매우 어려운 일이 생겼습니다. 불레셋 군이 저를 치려고 진을 쳤는데, 하느님께서는 저를 떠나셨는지 예언자로도, 꿈으로도 저의 물음에 대답해 주시지 않으십니다. 그래서 어떻게 하면 좋을지 몰라 말씀을 듣고자 선생을 모신 것입니다."

Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?

And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:

Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.

Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.

Then Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.

사무엘이 입을 열었다. "야훼께서 이미 너를 떠나 네 원수가 되셨는데 어쩌자고 나에게 묻느냐?

너는 야훼의 말씀을 듣지 않았느냐? 야훼께서는 이미 그대로 하셨다. 이미 이 나라를 네 손에서 빼앗아 동족인 다윗에게 주셨다.

너는 야훼의 말씀을 듣지 않았고 그의 진노를 아말렉에게 쏟지 않았다. 야훼께서 오늘 너에게 이렇게 하시는 것은 그 때문이다.

야훼께서는 너는 물론이요 이스라엘까지도 전부 불레셋 군의 손에 부치셨다. 내일이면 너와 네 아들들이 나와 함께 있게 되리라. 게다가 야훼께서는 이스라엘 군대도 불레셋 군의 손에 부치실 것이다."

이 말을 듣고 사울은 그만 땅바닥에 번듯이 쓰러졌다. 하루 종일, 그리고 밤새도록 아무것도 입에 대지 못해 기운이 빠진데다가 사무엘이 하는 말에 겁을 먹고 기절했던 것이다.

And the woman came unto Saul, and saw that he was sore troubled, and said unto him, Behold, thine handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have hearkened unto thy words which thou spakest unto me.

Now therefore, I pray thee, hearken thou also unto the voice of thine handmaid, and let me set a morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.

But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, compelled him; and he hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed.

And the woman had a fat calf in the house; and she hasted, and killed it, and took flour, and kneaded it, and did bake unleavened bread thereof:

And she brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they did eat. Then they rose up, and went away that night.

여자가 가까이 와서 사울이 겁에 질려 있는 것을 보고 간청하였다. "보십시오. 이 계집종은 임금님의 말씀을 따라 목숨을 걸고 분부대로 하였습니다.

그러니 이제 임금님께서도 이 계집종이 아뢰는 말씀을 들어주십시오. 변변치 않지만 잡수실 것을 장만하겠습니다. 길을 가시려면 무엇을 좀 드시고 기운을 차리셔야 하지 않겠습니까?"

사울은 먹지 않겠다고 고집을 부렸으나, 신하들과 그 여자의 청에 못 이겨 일어나 평상에 앉았다.

여자는 서둘러 집에 있는 살진 송아지를 잡고 또 밀가루를 가져다가 누룩 넣을 새도 없이 빵을 구워서

사울과 그의 신하들 앞에 차려놓았다. 그들은 그것을 먹고 그 밤으로 길을 떠났다.
