	열왕기하 5:1-6:23 엘리사는 하나님의 능력으로 여러 가지 기적들을 행했다. 아람의 군대 장관 나아만은 엘리사의 이적적인 방법에 순종함으로써 고침을 받았다. 사환 게하시는 탐욕에 빠져 엘리사가 거절한 나아만의 감사 예물을 취하려다가 하나님의 징벌로 문둥병에 걸렸다. 엘리사의 영력으로 인해 번번이 패배를 거듭했던 아람은 그를 체포하기 위해 도단 성을 포위했으나 하나님의 초자연적 역사로 또다시 패배하고 말았다.

	나아만의 문둥병 치유(5:1-5:27)

Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife.

And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

시리아 왕의 군사령관으로 나아만이라는 사람이 있었는데, 그는 왕이 매우 아끼는 큰 인물이었다. 야훼께서 나아만을 들어 쓰시어 시리아에 승리를 안겨주셨던 것이다. 그러나 그는 나병환자였다.

시리아 군이 이스라엘을 쳐들어갔다가, 한번은 거기에서 어린 소녀 하나를 사로잡아 왔는데, 나아만 장군은 그 소녀를 아내의 하녀로 삼았다.

그 어린 하녀가 자기의 주인에게 일렀다. "주인 어른께서 사마리아에 계시는 예언자를 만나시기만 해도 좋겠습니다. 그가 나병쯤은 쉽게 고쳐주실 텐데요."

이 말을 듣고 나아만은 입궐하여 왕에게, 이스라엘에서 온 소녀가 이러이러한 말을 하더라고 아뢰었다.

이 말을 들은 시리아 왕이 말하였다. "내가 이스라엘 왕에게 친서를 써줄 터이니, 장군은 가보시오." 이리하여 나아만은 은 십 달란트, 금 육천 세겔, 옷 열 벌을 가지고 가서

And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.

And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.

And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.

왕의 친서를 이스라엘 왕에게 전하였다. 그 친서에는 이렇게 쓰여 있었다. "본인은 이제 이 편지를 들려 본인의 신하 나아만을 귀하에게 보냅니다. 부디 그의 나병을 고쳐주십시오."

이스라엘 왕은 이 서신을 읽고 옷을 찢으면서 말하였다. "내가 사람을 죽이고 살리는 신이란 말인가? 그가 사람을 보내어 나에게 나병을 고쳐달라고 하니, 이것은 그가 나에게 싸움을 걸려고 트집을 잡으려는 것이 분명하다. 그대들은 이 점을 분명히 살피시오."

이스라엘 왕이 옷을 찢었다는 소리를 듣고 하느님의 사람 엘리사가 왕에게 사람을 보내어 말을 전하였다. "어찌하여 옷을 찢으셨습니까? 그를 나에게 보내주십시오. 이스라엘에 예언자가 있음을 그에게 알려주겠습니다."

그리하여 나아만은 마차를 몰고 엘리사의 집에 이르러 대문 앞에 멈추었다.

엘리사는 사람을 내보내어 말을 전하였다. "요르단 강에 가서 그 강물에 일곱 번 몸을 씻으시오. 그리하면 새살이 나서 깨끗하게 될 것이오."

But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.

And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?

Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.

나아만은 화가 치밀어 발길을 돌리면서 말하였다. "내 생각에는 적어도 그가 나에게 나와서 자기 하느님 야훼의 이름을 부르며 병든 부분을 손으로 만져 이 나병을 고쳐주려니 했다. 이럴 수가 있느냐?

다마스쿠스에는 이스라엘의 어떤 강물보다도 더 좋은 아바나 강과 발바르 강이 있다. 여기에서 된다면, 거기에 가서 씻어도 깨끗해지지 않겠느냐?" 나아만은 크게 노하여 발길을 옮겼다.

그러나 그의 부하들이 그를 막아 서며 말하였다. "만일 이 예언자가 더 어려운 일을 장군께 시켰더라면 장군께서는 그 일을 분명히 하셨을 것입니다. 그는 장군께 몸이나 씻으라고 하셨습니다. 그러면 깨끗이 낫는다고 하는데 그것쯤 못할 까닭이 무엇입니까?"

그리하여 나아만은 하느님의 사람이 일러준 대로 요르단 강으로 내려가서 일곱 번 강물에 들어가 몸을 씻었다. 그러자 새살이 돋아 그의 몸은 마치 어린아이 몸처럼 깨끗해졌다.

나아만은 수행원을 모두 거느리고 하느님의 사람에게로 돌아와 그 앞에 서서 말하였다. "이제 저는 알았습니다. 이스라엘 밖에는 온 세상에 신이 없습니다. 소인이 감사하여 드리는 이 선물을 부디 받아주십시오."

But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules' burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.

In this thing the LORD pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon thy servant in this thing.

And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.

But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.

엘리사가 "내가 모시는 야훼께서 살아 계십니다. 결코 이것을 받을 수 없습니다." 하고 거절했지만 나아만은 받아달라고 간청하였다. 그래도 거절하자,

나아만은 이렇게 말하였다. "진정 받지 못하시겠으면, 이 한 가지 청만은 들어주십시오. 이제부터 저는 야훼 외에 다른 어떤 신에게도 번제나 희생제사를 드리지 않겠습니다. 그러니 나귀 두 마리에 실을 만큼 흙을 주십시오.

그러나 한 가지 야훼께 용서를 빌 일이 있습니다. 저는 왕께서 림몬 신전에 예배하러 가실 때에 부축해 드려야 하고 왕께서 림몬 신전에서 예배할 때 같이 엎드려야 합니다. 이것만은 야훼께서 용서해 주셔야 하겠습니다."

엘리사가 대답하였다. "걱정말고 가시오." 이 말을 듣고 나아만은 길을 조금 갔는데

하느님의 사람 엘리사의 시종 게하지에게 이런 생각이 들었다. "스승께서 이 시리아 사람 나아만이 바치는 것을 거절하시고 그냥 돌려보내시니 뒤쫓아가서 무엇이든 좀 받아오고 말겠다."

So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well?

And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.

And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him.

And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.

But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither.

이렇게 생각하고 게하지는 나아만을 쫓아갔다. 나아만은 게하지가 뒤쫓아오는 것을 보고 마차에서 내려 그를 만나 무슨 일이 있느냐고 물었다.

게하지가 말하였다. "별일 없습니다. 지금 막 에브라임 산악 지방에서 예언자 수련생 두 사람이 왔습니다. 그들에게 줄 은 한 달란트와 옷 두 벌을 보내달라고 스승께서 저를 보내셨습니다."

나아만은 "드리다뿐이겠는가? 한 달란트를 더 드리겠다." 하며 은 두 달란트를 억지로 두 자루에 넣고 옷 두 벌을 꺼내서 부하 두 사람에게 들려 게하지 앞에 세워 보냈다.

게하지가 집 있는 언덕에 돌아와서 짐을 받아 집 안에 넣고 그 사람들을 돌려보낸 후

들어가서 스승 앞에 서자, 엘리사가 물었다. "게하지야, 어디를 갔다 왔느냐?" "소인은 아무 데도 갔다 오지 않았습니다." 하고 그가 대답하였다.

And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?

The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

그러나 엘리사는 이렇게 말하였다. "누군가가 마차에서 내려 너를 만나기 위하여 돌아설 때 내 마음이 거기에 가 있지 않은 줄 아느냐? 그래, 너는 돈을 받았다. 네가 그 돈으로 정원을 사서 올리브 나무, 포도나무를 심고 양과 소를 사고 하인과 하녀를 거느릴 수야 있겠지만,

너와 네 자손은 나아만에게서 옮은 나병을 영원히 앓으리라." 게하지는 나병으로 피부가 눈처럼 하얗게 되어 엘리사를 떠났다.

	아람의 1차 침입(6:1-6:23)

And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.

But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.

예언자 수련생들이 엘리사에게 와서 말하였다. "보십시오. 선생님을 모시고 사는 이 곳이 너무 좁습니다.

우리 모두 요르단으로 가서 들보 감을 하나씩 베어다가 살 집을 증축하는 것이 좋겠습니다." 엘리사가 가보라고 하자

한 사람이 청하였다. "선생님도 같이 가시는 것이 좋겠습니다." 엘리사가 "같이 가지." 하고

그들과 함께 떠났다. 요르단 지방에 이르러 그들은 나무를 자르기 시작하였다.

한 사람이 들보 감을 찍다가 도끼를 물에 떨어뜨렸다. "아이구, 선생님, 이걸 어쩌지요? 빌려온 도낀데." 하고 그가 소리치자,

And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.

And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.

And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.

하느님의 사람이 도끼가 떨어진 자리가 어디냐고 물었다. 그가 자리를 알려주자, 엘리사는 나뭇가지를 꺾어 그 곳에 집어넣었다. 그러자 도끼가 떠올랐다.

엘리사가 "도끼를 집어올려라." 하자 그가 손을 뻗어 도끼를 집어올렸다.

시리아 왕이 이스라엘과 전쟁을 하고 있었다. 그는 참모들과 의논하고 이러이러한 방향으로 기습해 들어가라고 작전 명령을 내렸다.

그러나 하느님의 사람이 이스라엘 왕에게 전갈을 보내었다. "삼가 이러이러한 지역은 지나가지 마십시오. 시리아 군이 그리로 기습해 올 것입니다."

이 말을 듣고 이스라엘 왕은 하느님의 사람이 일러준 지역을 특별히 경계하라고 지시를 내릴 뿐 아니라 자신도 그 곳을 경계하였다. 이러기가 한두 번이 아니었다.

Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?

And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.

And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

이렇게 되자 시리아 왕은 안절부절못하고 참모들을 소집하여 엄하게 추궁하였다. "우리들 가운데 이스라엘 왕과 내통하는 자가 있다. 그가 누구인지 고하여라."

그러자 "임금님, 그럴 리가 없습니다." 하며 한 참모가 말하였다. "이스라엘에는 엘리사라는 예언자가 있어, 임금님께서 침실에서 은밀히 하신 말씀까지도 다 알고 낱낱이 이스라엘 왕에게 고해 바치고 있습니다."

시리아 왕은 "가서 그가 어디 있는지 알아오너라. 내가 군사를 보내어 그를 사로잡으리라." 하고 명령하였다. 이내 엘리사가 도단에 있다는 보고가 들어왔다.

그는 기마부대와 병거부대와 강한 부대를 보냈다. 그 군대는 밤중에 그 곳에 도착하여 성을 포위하였다.

하느님의 사람의 시종이 아침 일찍 일어나서 밖에 나갔다가 대군이 군마와 병거로 성을 포위하고 있는 것을 보았다. 그 시종이 "선생님, 큰일났습니다. 이걸 어떻게 하면 좋습니까?" 하고 물었다.

And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.

And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

엘리사는 "두려워 마라. 우리 편이 저편보다 많다." 하면서

이렇게 기도하였다. "야훼여, 이 시종의 눈을 열어 보게 해주십시오." 그러자 야훼께서 그 시종의 눈을 열어주셨다. 그리하여 그는 불말을 탄 기마부대와 불병거부대가 엘리사를 둘러싸고 온 산에 덮여 있는 것을 보았다.

시리아 군대가 엘리사에게 쳐 내려오자 엘리사는 야훼께 "저 오랑캐들의 눈을 멀게 해주십시오." 하고 기도하였다. 그러자 야훼께서 엘리사가 기도한 대로 그들의 눈을 멀게 하셨다.

이에 엘리사가 그들에게 말하였다. "당신들은 길을 잘못 들었소. 여기는 당신들이 치려던 그 성이 아니오. 나를 따라오시오. 당신들이 찾는 사람이 있는 곳으로 인도해 드리리다." 이렇게 해서 그는 그들을 사마리아로 유인하였다.

그들이 사마리아로 들어가자 엘리사는 "야훼여, 이들의 눈을 열어 다시 볼 수 있게 하여주십시오." 하고 기도하였다. 야훼께서 그들의 눈을 열어주셨다. 그리하여 그들은 자기네가 사마리아 성 안에 있는 것을 알게 되었다.

And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?

And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

이스라엘 왕이 그들을 보고 엘리사에게 말하였다. "국사님, 저들을 쳐죽일까요?"

엘리사가 대답하였다. "쳐죽여서는 안 됩니다. 전장에서 사로잡은 포로도 아닌데 죽여서야 되겠습니까? 차라리 음식과 물을 주어서 먹고 마시게 한 다음 자기들 상전에게 돌려보내십시오."

그리하여 이스라엘 왕은 큰 잔치를 베풀어 잘 먹고 마시게 한 다음 그들을 상전에게로 돌려보냈다. 이리하여 시리아 강도떼가 다시는 이스라엘에 발을 들여놓지 않게 되었다.
