- And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus' band.
- And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.
- And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.
- And when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.
- And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.

- 그들이 우리를 배에 태워서 이탈리아로 보내기로 결정하였을 때 바울로와 다른 죄수 몇 사람을 율리오라는 친위대의 한 백인대장에게 넘겨주었다.
- 마침 그 때 아드라미티움에서 온 배 한 척이 아시아 연안의 여러 항구를 향하여 떠나려고 하였으므로 우리는 그 배를 타고 떠났다. 우리 일행 중에는 데살로니카 출신인 마케도니아 사람 아리스다르코도 있었다.
- 이튿날 배가 시돈에 닿았을 때에 율리오는 바울로에게 친절을 베풀어 친구들을 찾아가도 좋다고 허락하였다. 바울로의 친구들은 그를 잘 돌보아 주었다.
- 우리는 시돈을 떠나가다가 역풍을 만나 키프로스 섬을 왼쪽으로 끼고 항해하여
- 길리기아와 밤필리아 앞바다를 지나서 리키아에 있는 미라 항구에 닿았다.

- And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy; and he put us therein.
- And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone;
- And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.
- Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,
- And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.

- 거기에는 마침 이탈리아로 가는 알렉산드리아 배가 있어서 백인대장은 우리를 그 배에 태웠다.
- 우리는 여러 날 동안 느린 항해 끝에 가까스로 크니드스 앞바다까지 갔다. 그러나 역풍 때문에 더 나가지 못하고 살모네 앞바다를 지나 그레데 섬을 오른쪽으로 끼고
- 바싹 해안을 따라가다가 라새아 시에 가까운 "좋은 항구"라는 곳에 겨우 닿았다.
- 어느덧 많은 시일이 지나서 단식일로 정해진 추분도 이미 지났기 때문에 항해를 더 계속하기가 무척 위태로웠다.
- 그래서 바울로는 사람들에게 이렇게 경고하였다. "여러분, 내가 보기에는 이대로 항해를 더 계속하다가는 짐과 배의 손실뿐만 아니라 우리 목숨까지도 잃을 큰 위험이 따를 것입니다."

- Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.
- And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.
- And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.
- But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.
- And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.

- 그러나 백인대장은 바울로의 말보다는 선장과 선주의 말을 더 믿었다.
- 게다가 그 항구는 겨울을 날 만한 곳이 못 되어 대다수의 의견대로 그 곳을 떠나 할 수만 있으면 페닉스로 가서 겨울을 나기로 하였다. 페닉스는 그레데 섬에 있는 항구로 서남쪽과 서북쪽을 바라볼 수 있는 곳이었다.
- 때마침 남풍이 순하게 불어왔다. 그래서 사람들은 이젠 되었다고 생각하고 닻을 올리고 그레데 해안에 바싹 붙어서 항해하였다.
- 그런데 얼마 안 가서 섬 쪽에서 유라퀼로라는 태풍이 불어와서
- 배가 바람에 휘말리게 되었다. 우리는 바람을 뚫고 나갈 수가 없어서 바람이 부는 대로 배를 내맡기고 표류하기 시작하였다.

- And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:
- Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.
- And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship;
- And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.
- And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

- 가우다라는 조그만 섬을 북쪽으로 끼고 가는 동안에 우리는 끌고 가던 거룻배를 간신히 바로잡을 수가 있었다.
- 선원들은 거룻배를 끌어올리고 배가 부서지지 않게 선체를 밧줄로 동여맸다. 그대로 가다가는 리비아 해안의 모래 바닥에 처박힐 염려가 있어서 돛을 내리고 계속 표류하였다.
- 태풍에 몹시 시달리다 못해 이튿날에는 화물을 바닷속으로 집어 던졌고
- 또 그 다음날에는 선원들이 배의 장비를 제 손으로 내던졌다.
- 여러 날 동안 해도 별도 보이지 않고 태풍만이 거세게 불어닥쳐서 마침내 우리는 살아 돌아갈 희망을 아주 잃고 말았다.

- But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.
- And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship.
- For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
- Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
- Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.

- 그 때 바울로가 일어서서 오랫동안 아무것도 먹지 못하고 시달려 온 사람들에게 이렇게 말하였다. "여러분, 내 말대로 그레데 섬을 떠나지 않았어야 했습니다. 그랬더라면 우리는 이런 재난과 손실은 겪지 않았을 것입니다.
- 그러나 이제라도 제발 기운을 내십시오. 배는 잃겠지만 여러분의 목숨만은 하나도 잃지 않을 것입니다.
- 바로 어제 밤에 나를 지배하시는 하느님 곧 내가 섬기는 하느님의 천사가 나타나서
- 나더러 두려워하지 말라고 하며 내가 반드시 황제 앞에 서게 될 것이며 나와 동행하는 여러분을 하느님께서 이미 모두 나에게 맡겨주셨다고 했습니다.
- 그러니 여러분, 기운을 내십시오. 나는 하느님께서 일러주신 대로 모든 일이 이루어지리라고 믿습니다.

- Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.

- 이제 우리는 어떤 섬에 밀려가 닿게 될 것입니다."
