- Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
- But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
- Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
- But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
- To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

- 내가 말하려는 것은 이것입니다. 상속자는 모든 재산의 주인이지만 그가 어릴 때는 종이나 조금도 다를 것이 없습니다.
- 그래서 자기 아버지가 정해 둔 때가 올 때까지 보호자와 관리자의 지시를 받습니다.
- 이와 같이 우리도 어렸을 때에는 자연 숭배에 얽매여 종노릇을 하고 있었습니다.
- 그러나 때가 찼을 때 하느님께서 당신의 아들을 보내시어 여자의 몸에서 나게 하시고 율법의 지배를 받게 하시어
- 율법의 지배를 받고 사는 사람을 구원해 내시고 또 우리에게 당신의 자녀가 되는 자격을 얻게 하셨습니다.

- And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
- Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
- Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.
- But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
- Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.

- 이제 여러분은 하느님의 자녀가 되었으므로 하느님께서는 여러분의 마음속에 당신의 아들의 성령을 보내주셨습니다. 그래서 여러분은 하느님을 "아빠, 아버지!"라고 부를 수 있게 되었습니다.
- 그러므로 여러분은 이제 종이 아니라 자녀입니다. 자녀라면 하느님께서 세워주신 상속자인 것입니다.
- 여러분이 하느님을 모르고 있을 때에는 본래 하느님이 아닌 신들의 종노릇을 하였습니다.
- 그러나 이제는 여러분이 하느님을 알고 있을 뿐만 아니라 하느님께서 여러분을 알고 계신데 왜 또다시 그 무력하고 천한 자연 숭배로 되돌아가서 그것들의 종노릇을 하려고 합니까?
- 여러분이 날과 달과 계절과 해를 숭상하기 시작했다고 하니

- I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
- Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all.
- Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first.
- And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
- Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.

- 여러분을 위한 내 수고가 허사로 돌아가지나 않았나 염려됩니다.
- 형제 여러분, 내가 여러분과 같은 사람이 되었으니 여러분도 나와 같은 사람이 되기를 바랍니다. 여러분이 나에게 잘못한 일은 조금도 없습니다.
- 여러분이 아시는 바와 같이 전에 내가 병을 앓았던 것이 기회가 되어 여러분에게 복음을 전하게 되었습니다.
- 나의 신체 조건이 여러분에게는 괴로운 짐이 되었지만 여러분은 나를 외면하거나 멸시하지 않고 오히려 하느님의 천사와도 같이, 또 그리스도 예수와도 같이 영접해 주었습니다.
- 그 때의 여러분의 그 감격은 다 어디로 갔습니까? 분명히 말하지만 그 때 여러분은 만일 할 수만 있었다면 눈이라도 뽑아서 나에게 주지 않았겠습니까?

- Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
- They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.
- But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.
- My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
- I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.

- 그런데 이제 내가 진실을 말한다고 해서 나를 원수로 여기는 것입니까?
- 그 사람들이 여러분에게 열성을 보이는 것은 결코 선의에서 나온 것이 아니라 여러분을 나에게서 떼어내어 여러분으로 하여금 그들에게 열성을 품도록 하려는 술책입니다.
- 그들이 좋은 동기로 여러분에게 열성을 보인다면야 얼마나 좋겠습니까? 내가 여러분과 함께 있을 때뿐만 아니라 언제나 그랬으면 좋겠습니다.
- 나의 자녀인 여러분, 여러분 속에 그리스도가 형성될 때까지 나는 또다시 해산의 고통을 겪어야겠습니다.
- 지금이라도 내가 여러분과 만나서 어조를 바꾸어서 이야기를 나눌 수 있다면 얼마나 좋겠습니까? 나는 여러분의 일이 걱정스러워 안절부절못하고 있습니다.
