예레미야 5:1-6:30

 유다의 선지자와 제사장 그리고 백성들 모두가 하나님의 규례를 어기며 가난한 자와 약한 자를 착취하는 죄를 범하였기 때문에 유다는 하나님의 심판을 피할 수 없었다. 하나님께서는 심판이 바벨론에 의한 전쟁으로 시행될 것이라고 선언하셨다. 임박한 바벨론의 침공을 앞두고 예레미야는 회개를 촉구했으나 백성과 지도자들은 이를 무시하고 듣지 않았다.
  
  유다 심판 이유(5:1-5:31)    
 
  1. Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.
  2. And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.
  3. O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
  4. Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.
  5. I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.
  1. "예루살렘 거리를 돌아다니며, 너희 눈으로 찾아보아라. 장마당마다 찾아다녀 보아라. 바르게 살며 신용을 지키는 사람이 하나라도 있으면 나는 예루살렘을 용서하리라.
  2. 나를 두고 맹세하면서도 속에는 사기칠 생각밖에 없구나."
  3. "야훼께서 눈여겨 찾으시는 것은 신용을 지키는 사람인데, 이 백성은 얻어 맞으면서도 아픈 줄을 모릅니다. 죽도록 맞고서도 타이르시는 말씀을 귓전으로 흘려버립니다. 얼굴에 쇠가죽을 쓴 것들, 도무지 하느님께 돌아올 생각을 하지 않습니다.
  4. 백성이야 어차피 야훼께 배운 길을 모르고, 저희 하느님께서 세워주신 법을 모르는 미련한 것들 아닙니까?
  5. 그래도 지도층은 야훼께 배운 길을 알고 저희 하느님께서 세워주신 법을 알 것 같아 찾아가 말을 건네보았지만, 그들도 하나같이 굴레 벗은 말이 되어 고삐를 끊고 날뜁니다.
  1. Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.
  2. How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.
  3. They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.
  4. Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
  5. Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD's.
  1. 그래서 사자가 숲에서 뛰어나와 사람들을 물어 죽입니다. 벌판을 쏘다니던 늑대가 덤벼들고 표범이 성읍 밖에서 노리다가 나오는 사람을 모두 잡아갑니다. 그렇게 거역하기만 하고, 그렇게 배신만 하더니 이 꼴이 되었습니다."
  2. "너 예루살렘이 이 모양인데 어떻게 용서해 주겠느냐? 너의 자식들은 나를 저버리고, 신 아닌 것을 걸어 맹세하였다. 배불리 먹여놓았더니, 간음이나 하고, 창녀집에나 몰려다니는구나.
  3. 먹음새 좋은 말이 성욕이 동하듯 남의 아내를 후리려고 힝힝거리는구나.
  4. 그러는데 내가 벌하지 않고 내버려두겠느냐? 내가 똑똑히 일러둔다. 이런 족속에게 분풀이를 않고 내버려둘 수는 없다.
  5. 저 돌담에 올라가, 무너뜨리고 허물어버려라. 포도순을 말끔히 훑어버려라. 이것은 나의 것이 아니다.
  1. For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.
  2. They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:
  3. And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.
  4. Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
  5. Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
  1. 이스라엘 가문도 유다 가문도 뻔뻔스럽게 나를 배반하였다. 똑똑히 들어라.
  2. 나를 뿌리치며 하는 소리를 들어보아라. '야훼는 그럴 분이 아니다. 우리가 재앙을 당하다니, 전쟁과 기근을 당하다니, 그럴 리 없다.
  3. 예언자들이란 공연히 지껄이는 바람 같은 것들! 그런 벌은 저희나 받으라지.'
  4. 이렇게 나오기 때문에 나 야훼는 만군의 하느님으로서 선언한다. '저들이 이런 말을 지껄이므로, 나는 너의 입에 불 같은 말을 담아준다. 그 말은 이 백성을 섶처럼 살라버릴 것이다.'
  5. 이스라엘 가문아, 내가 먼 데서 한 민족을 불러들여 너희를 치게 하리라. 이는 내 말이라, 어김이 없다. 그 민족은 오랜 역사를 가진 민족, 너희와는 말이 다른 민족이다. 너희는 그 말을 들어도 알아듣지 못한다.
  1. Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.
  2. And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.
  3. Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.
  4. And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not your's.
  5. Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,
  1. 모두가 힘깨나 쓰는 용사들, 목구멍은 닥치는 대로 집어삼키는 무덤,
  2. 너희가 먹으려고 거둔 것을 빼앗아 먹고 너희 아들딸마저 집어삼키리라. 양떼와 소떼를 잡아먹고, 포도와 무화과를 훑어 먹으리라. 너희가 하늘같이 믿는 방비된 성들에 쳐들어가 허물어뜨리리라.
  3. 그 날이 오더라도 나는 너희를 아주 없애버리지는 않으리라. 이는 내 말이라, 어김이 없다.
  4. 무엇 때문에 하느님 야훼가 우리를 다 이 모양으로 만들어놓았느냐고 묻거든, 이렇게 일러주어라. '제 나라에서 나를 버리고 남의 신을 섬겼기 때문에 너희는 남의 나라에 노예로 끌려가게 된 것이다.'
  5. 너희는 야곱 가문에 이렇게 전하여라. 유다에게 이렇게 들려주어라.
  1. Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:
  2. Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
  3. But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.
  4. Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
  5. Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.
  1. '미련하고 속없는 백성들아, 이 말을 들어보아라. 이 청맹과니들아, 멀쩡한 귀머거리들아,
  2. 내가 무섭지도 않느냐? 내 앞에서 떨리지도 않느냐? 똑똑히 들어두어라. 나는 모래톱을 둘러 바다의 경계로 삼아 언제까지나 넘어오지 못하게 하였다. 밀물이 일어도 넘어오지 못하고 파도가 들이쳐도 넘어오지 못하게 하였다.
  3. 그러나 이 백성은 내 말을 아니 듣고 거역하여 나에게서 떠나가 버렸다.
  4. 소나기, 가을비, 봄비를 철 따라 내리시고 추수 때를 어김없이 지켜주시는 우리 하느님 야훼를 공경하자고 하여야 할 터인데 그럴 생각조차 없구나.
  5. 너희가 이렇게 굴었기 때문에 계절이 순조롭지 못하게 되었다. 너희 죄가 들어오는 복을 차버린 것이다.'
  1. For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.
  2. As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.
  3. They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
  4. Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
  5. A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;
  1. 나의 백성 가운데는 못된 자들이 있어 새잡이 그물을 치듯이 올가미를 놓아 사람을 잡고 있다.
  2. 새장에 새를 가득히 채우듯이 남을 속여 약탈해 온 재산을 제 집에 채워 벼락부자가 되고 세력을 휘두른다.
  3. 피둥피둥 개기름이 도는 것들, 못하는 짓이 없구나. 남의 권리 같은 것은 아랑곳없다는 듯 고아의 인권을 짓밟고 빈민들의 송사를 공정하게 재판해 주지도 않는다.
  4. 이런 짓을 보고도 나더러 벌하지 말라고 하느냐? 이 따위 족속에게 어찌 내가 분풀이를 하지 않겠느냐? 똑똑히 들어두어라.
  5. 이 땅에는 기막힌 일, 놀라 기절할 일뿐이다.
  1. The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
  1. 예언자들은 나의 말인 양 거짓말을 전하고, 사제들은 제멋대로 가르치는데, 내 백성은 도리어 그것이 좋다고 하니, 그러다가 끝나는 날이 오면 어떻게 하려느냐?
 
  임박한 멸망(6:1-6:30)    
 
  1. O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.
  2. I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.
  3. The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.
  4. Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.
  5. Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.
  1. 베냐민 사람들아, 도망쳐라. 예루살렘에서 빠져 나가거라. 드고아에서 나팔을 불어라. 벳하께림에 깃발을 올려라. 북녘에서 재앙이 밀어닥친다. 대살육이 임박하였다.
  2. 수도 시온은 아름다운 목장이었지만,
  3. 목동들이 짐승떼를 몰고 와 천막을 둘러치고 멋대로 풀을 뜯는 꼴이 되리라.
  4. '예루살렘을 쳐부술 채비를 하여라. 대낮에 쳐 올라가거라. 어허, 어떻게 하나! 날이 저물었네, 저녁때가 되어 땅거미졌어.' 하면,
  5. '밤에라도 어서 쳐 올라가, 예루살렘 궁궐을 무너뜨리자.' 한다.
  1. For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.
  2. As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.
  3. Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.
  4. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.
  5. To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
  1. 이 만군의 야훼가 명령한다. '나무를 베어다가 예루살렘 성 앞에 축대를 쌓아라.' 예루살렘은 백성을 억압하는 자들이 활개치는 도성이라, 벌을 받아 마땅하다.
  2. 샘에서 샘물이 솟아나듯 예루살렘에서는 죄악이 솟아나고 있다. 들리느니 때리고 부수는 소리, 보이느니 앓는 사람, 상처난 사람들뿐이다.
  3. 예루살렘아, 소박맞기 싫거든 내가 타이르는 말을 들어라. 듣지 않는다면 쑥밭으로 만들어놓으리라. 사람 없는 땅으로 만들어놓으리라.
  4. 만군의 야훼가 말한다. 예루살렘에 살아 남은 자들을 포도 이삭 거두듯이 샅샅이 쓸어 없애버려라. 너는 포도 거두는 사람이 하듯이 덩굴을 다시 훑어 없애버려라."
  5. "그런 말을 누구에게 하라는 것입니까? 일러준들 그 누가 듣겠습니까? 보십시오. 귀를 틀어막고 들으려고 하지도 않습니다. 보십시오. 야훼의 말씀쯤 우습게 알아, 아예 들을 마음이 없습니다.
  1. Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.
  2. And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
  3. For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
  4. They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
  5. Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
  1. 야훼의 노여움이 속에서 부글거려 저는 견딜 수가 없습니다." "그렇거든 너의 분노를 당장 쏟아놓아라. 거리를 쏘다니는 아이들이나 젊은 녀석들의 무리나 가리지 말고 그 녀석들에게 쏟아놓아라. 그러면 아비 어미, 할미 할아비까지 모조리 붙잡혀 가리라.
  2. 집도 남의 손에 넘어가고, 밭과 아내들도 함께 넘어가리라. 내가 친히 손을 들어 이 땅 주민들에게 벌을 내리는 것이다. 이는 내 말이라, 어김이 없다.
  3. 위아래 할 것 없이 모두 남을 뜯어먹는 놈들, 예언자 사제 할 것 없이 모두 사기나 치는 것들,
  4. 내 백성의 상처를 건성으로 치료해 주면서 '괜찮다, 괜찮다.' 하는구나. 사실은 괜찮은 것이 아닌데.
  5. 그렇듯이 역겨운 짓을 하면서 부끄러운 줄이나 알더냐? 부끄러워했으면 괜찮고 창피한 줄이나 알았으면 괜찮다. 그런 것들이라, 모두 무더기로 쓰러져 죽으리라. 내가 혼내주러 오는 날 모두 비틀거리다가 쓰러지리라. 이는 내 말이라, 어김이 없다.
  1. Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
  2. Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.
  3. Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.
  4. Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.
  5. To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.
  1. 나 야훼가 말한다. 너희는 네거리에 서서 살펴보아라. 옛부터 있는 길을 물어보아라. 어떤 길이 나은 길인지 물어보고 그 길을 가거라. 그래야 평안을 얻으리라고 하였지만, 너희는 그대로 하기 싫다고 하였다.
  2. 그래서 나는 보초들을 세워주고, 나팔 신호가 나거든 잘 들으라고 일렀지만, 너희는 듣기 싫다고 귀를 막았다.
  3. 그러니 뭇 민족은 들어라. 내가 나의 백성에게 어떤 일을 할 것인지 일러줄 터이니 명심하여라.
  4. 온 세상은 들어라. 내가 이제 이 백성에게 재앙을 내리리라. 이들은 나의 말을 마음 새겨듣지 아니하고 내가 세운 법을 싫다고 하며 거역한 것들이다.
  5. 세바에서 들여온 향가루, 먼 나라에서 들여온 향료가 나에게 무슨 소용이냐? 너희가 바치는 번제가 나는 싫다. 너희의 친교제도 역겹다.
  1. Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.
  2. Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.
  3. They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.
  4. We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.
  5. Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.
  1. 그래서 나 야훼는 말한다. 나 이제 이 백성을 걸어 넘어뜨리리라. 아비도 아들도 함께, 이웃도 친구도 함께 멸망시키리라.
  2. 야훼의 말이다. 북녘 땅 한 끝에서 한 강대국이 일어나 쳐들어온다.
  3. 활과 창을 움켜잡은 잔인무도한 자들이 설레는 바다같이 고함지르며 말타고 달려온다. 수도 시온아, 너를 쳐부수려고 일제히 무장하고 나섰다."
  4. "우리는 그 소식을 듣고 맥이 풀렸습니다. 해산하는 여인처럼 괴로워서 몸이 뒤틀렸습니다."
  5. "들에 나가지 않으려거든 그만두려무나. 한길로 나가기 싫거든 그만두려무나. 원수가 칼을 빼어들면, 어디 간들 무섭지 않은 곳이 있겠느냐?
  1. O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.
  2. I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.
  3. They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.
  4. The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.
  5. Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.
  1. 내 딸 내 백성아, 상복을 입고 재를 뒤집어써 보려무나. 외아들을 잃은 어미같이 곡을 하고, '침략자들이 이렇게 들이닥치다니!' 하며, 창자가 끊어지도록 목놓아 울어보려무나.
  2. 내 백성의 속을 떠보도록 너를 임명하였으니, 내 백성이 사는 꼴을 시험하여 보아라.
  3. 하나같이 말을 듣지 않는 것들, 남을 모함이나 하며 돌아다니는 철면피들이라. 모두들 썩었다.
  4. 아무리 풀무를 부쳐도 도가니가 제 구실을 못하여 납 찌꺼기가 녹지 않듯이 나쁜 자들이 떨어져 나가지 않는다.
  5. 그런 자들을 나 야훼는 내버린다. 그러니 '내버린 은'이라고 불러주어라."
 
  경책(警責, 6:10)  경고하여 책망함.  
  심상히(尋常, 6:14)  ‘심각한 상태가 아닌 것처럼’이란 뜻으로, 여기서는 유다 백성이 죄를 가볍게 여겼다는 의미
