	예레미야 19:1-21:14 하나님께서는 오지병을 깨뜨리는 비유를 통해 하나님의 훈계와 교훈을 멸시한 유다의 파멸이 확정적임을 보여 주셨다. 예레미야가 성전에 올라가 이러한 심판의 메시지를 선포하자 성전의 책임자였던 바스훌이 그를 핍박하였다. 이에 예레미야는 자신의 심정을 하나님께 토로하며 탄식하였다. 그 후 바벨론이 침입하여 위기에 처하자 시드기야 왕은 예레미야에게 기도를 부탁했지만, 예레미야는 바벨론에게 항복할 것을 권유하였다.

	심판 선포(19:1-19:15)

Thus saith the LORD, Go and get a potter's earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests;

And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,

And say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.

Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;

They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:

야훼께서 예레미야에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "오지그릇을 하나 사가지고 백성을 대표하는 장로 몇 사람과 사제 몇 사람을 데리고

'옹기 대문' 바로 밖에 있는 벤힌놈 골짜기로 나가거라. 거기에서 내가 일러줄 말이 있으니, 너는 그 말을 외쳐라.

'유다 임금들과 예루살렘 시민들은 내 말을 들어라. 나 만군의 야훼가 이스라엘의 하느님으로서 하는 말이다. 내가 이제 이 곳에 재앙을 내리겠다. 이런 재앙 이야기를 듣고 놀라지 않을 귀가 없을 것이다.

이 백성이 선조 때부터 백성들도 임금들도 모르던 딴 신들에게 이 자리에서 분향을 올리며 나를 저버린 죄벌이다. 이 곳을 남의 나라처럼 만든 죄벌이며, 이 곳에서 죄없는 사람의 피를 많이 흘린 죄벌이다.

바알에게 제단을 쌓고 저희 자식들을 불에 살라 번제로 바친 죄벌이다. 이런 일은 내가 시키지도 않은 일이다. 나는 그런 말을 한 일이 없다. 그런 일을 내가 생각인들 하여보았겠느냐?

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter.

And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.

And I will make this city desolate, and an hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.

And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall straiten them.

Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,

내가 이제 똑똑히 일러둔다. 앞으로 이 자리를 도벳이나 벤힌놈 골짜기라 부르지 않고 살인 골짜기라 부를 날이 올 것이다.

나는 이 자리에서 유다와 예루살렘의 계획을 부수어버리리라. 이 백성을 죽이려고 달려드는 외적의 칼에 맞아 쓰러지게 하여 그 시체를 공중의 새와 들짐승의 밥이 되게 내어주리라.

사람들은 이 도읍의 끔찍한 모습을 보고 빈정거릴 것이다. 지나가는 사람마다 그 끔찍하게 망한 모습을 보고 빈정거릴 것이다.

잡아죽이려고 달려드는 외적에게 포위되어 시민들은 아들딸들을 잡아먹다 못하여 나중에는 저희끼리 잡아먹게 되리라.'

이렇게 말하고는 같이 간 사람들이 보는 데서 그 그릇을 부수고

And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to bury.

Thus will I do unto this place, saith the LORD, and to the inhabitants thereof, and even make this city as Tophet:

And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods.

Then came Jeremiah from Tophet, whither the LORD had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the LORD's house; and said to all the people,

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.

일러주어라. '만군의 야훼가 말한다. 이 옹기그릇이 부서져 다시는 주워 맞추지 못하게 된 것처럼 나는 이 백성과 이 도읍을 그렇게 부수리라. 마침내 사람 묻을 자리가 없어 이 도벳에마저 무덤을 쓰게 되리라.

내가 똑똑히 말해 둔다. 이 곳과 여기에 사는 사람들을 이처럼 만들리라. 이 도읍을 도벳처럼 만들리라.

그리하면 예루살렘의 집이란 집들은 유다 왕궁까지 모두 도벳 자리처럼 흉가가 될 것이다. 집집이 지붕 위에서 하늘의 모든 법을 신으로 알고 향을 피워 올리고 잡신들에게 제주를 부어 바친 죄벌을 받을 것이다.'"

예레미야는 야훼의 말씀대로 도벳에 가서 하느님의 말씀을 전하고는 야훼의 집 마당에 돌아와 버티고 서서 온 백성에게 이렇게 선언하였다.

"만군의 야훼께서 이스라엘의 하느님으로서 말씀하신다. 이 백성은 고집이 세어 나의 말을 듣지 않았다. 나 이제 이미 말하였던 온갖 재앙을 이 도읍과 여기 딸린 모든 성읍에 내리리라."

	핍박받는 예레미야(20:1-20:18)

Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things.

Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magormissabib.

For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

당시 야훼의 성전 총감독은 임멜의 아들 바스훌 사제였는데, 예레미야가 전하는 이 말씀이 그의 귀에 들어갔다.

바스훌은 예언자 예레미야를 때리고 차꼬를 채워 야훼의 성전 윗쪽에 있는 베냐민 대문에 가두어두었다.

다음날 아침에 바스훌이 차꼬를 풀어주자 예레미야는 이렇게 말하였다. "야훼께서는 그대의 이름을 사면초가라 부르실 것이오. 다시는 바스훌이라고 부르시지 않기로 하셨소.

'이것은 야훼의 말이다.' 하시면서 이런 말씀을 하셨소. '나 야훼는 너와 가까운 사람이 모두 무서운 꼴을 당하게 하리라. 너와 가까운 사람들이 칼에 맞아 죽는 것을 너의 눈으로 볼 것이다. 나는 또 온 유다 백성을 바빌론 왕의 손에 넘겨주어, 바빌론으로 사로잡혀 가거나 칼에 맞아 죽게 하리라.

나는 또 이 도읍 시민이 애써 모은 재산과 보화뿐 아니라 유다 왕궁의 보물까지도 외적의 손에 넘겨주어, 모조리 털어 바빌론으로 실어가게 하리라.

And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies.

O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.

For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily.

Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

너 바스훌도 네 온 집안 식구와 함께 바빌론으로 사로잡혀 가 거기에서 죽을 것이다. 너에게서 거짓 예언을 들으며 너를 좋아하던 모든 사람과 함께 너는 거기에 묻힐 것이다.'"

"야훼여, 저는 어수룩하게도 주님의 꾐에 넘어갔습니다. 주님의 억지에 말려들고 말았습니다. 그래서 날마다 웃음거리가 되고 모든 사람에게 놀림감이 되었습니다.

저는 입을 열어 고함을 쳤습니다. 서로 때려잡는 세상이 되었다고 외치며 주의 말씀을 전하였습니다. 그 덕에 날마다 욕을 먹고 조롱받는 몸이 되었습니다.

'다시는 주의 이름을 입밖에 내지 말자. 주의 이름으로 하던 말을 이제는 그만두자.' 하여도, 뼛속에 갇혀 있는 주의 말씀이 심장 속에서 불처럼 타올라 견디다 못해 저는 손을 들고 맙니다.

사람들이 모여서 수군거립니다. '저자야말로 사면초가다. 고발하자, 고발하자.' 저와 가까이 지내던 사람들도 모두 제가 망하기를 바라 모의합니다. '걸어 넘어뜨리고 잡아 족치자. 앙갚음을 하자.'

But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.

But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause.

Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers.

Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed.

Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad.

그러나 제 곁에는 힘센 장사처럼 야훼께서 계시기에 저를 박해하다가는 당하지 못하고 나가떨어질 것입니다. 뜻을 이루지 못하여 부끄러움으로 머리도 들지 못하고 길이길이 잊지 못할 수치를 당할 것입니다.

만군의 야훼여, 사람의 뱃속을 아시고 심장을 꿰뚫어 보시는 공정한 감시자여, 저들을 고소하는 이유를 밝히 말씀드렸사오니, 이제 이 백성에게 제 원수를 갚아주십시오. 이 눈으로 그것을 보아야겠습니다."

야훼께 노래를 불러드려라. 야훼를 찬양하여라. 야훼께서는 가난한 사람을 악당들의 손에서 빼내 주시는 분이시다.

저주받을 날, 내가 세상에 떨어지던 날, 어머니가 나를 낳던 날, 복과는 거리가 먼 날.

사내 아이가 태어났다는 소식을 전하여 아버지를 즐겁게 한 그자도 천벌을 받아라.

And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide;

Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me.

Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

야훼께 사정없이 뒤엎인 성읍들처럼 되어라. 아침에 경보를 듣고 대낮에 적이 쳐들어오는 소리를 들어라.

모태에서 나오기 전에 나를 죽이셨던들 어머니 몸이 나의 무덤이 되어 언제까지나 탯속에 있었을 것을!

어찌하여 모태에서 나와 고생길에 들어서 이 어려운 일을 당하게 되었는가! 이렇게 수모를 받으며 생애를 끝마쳐야 하는가!

	멸망당할 유다(21:1-21:14)

The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when king Zedekiah sent unto him Pashur the son of Melchiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, saying,

Enquire, I pray thee, of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us; if so be that the LORD will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.

Then said Jeremiah unto them, Thus shall ye say to Zedekiah:

Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans, which besiege you without the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city.

And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath.

시드키야 왕이 말기야의 아들 바스훌과 마아세야의 아들 스바니야 사제를 예레미야에게 보냈을 때 예레미야에게 내린 야훼의 말씀이다. 그들은 이렇게 청했던 것이다.

"바빌론 왕 느부갓네살이 싸움을 걸어왔소. 기적을 베푸시어 적을 물리치시고 우리를 건져주십사고 야훼께 빌어주시오."

예레미야는 그들에게 야훼께 받은 말씀을 일러주었다. "당신들은 시드키야 왕께 가서 이렇게 전하시오.

'이스라엘의 하느님 나 야훼가 말한다. 너희는 이 성을 에워싸고 있는 바빌론 왕의 군대와 싸우려 한다마는, 나 이제 너희의 무장을 해제시키고 그 무기를 이 성읍 한가운데 모아놓으리라.

너무나도 노엽고 화가 나서 내가 있는 힘을 다 기울여 너희를 치리니,

And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence.

And afterward, saith the LORD, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy.

And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.

He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth out, and falleth to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey.

For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the LORD: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.

이 도읍에 사는 사람과 짐승이 모두 심한 염병에 걸려 죽을 것이다.

똑똑히 말하여 둔다. 이렇게 염병과 전쟁과 기근으로 죽고도 남은 유다 왕 시드키야와 그의 신하들과 백성들은 바빌론 왕 느부갓네살의 손에 넘겨주리라. 죽이려고 달려드는 저 원수들의 손에 너희를 넘겨주면, 그들은 사정없이 무자비하게 칼로 쳐죽일 것이다.'

당신들은 또 이 백성에게 야훼의 말씀이라 하며 이 말을 전하시오. '내가 살 길과 죽을 길을 너희 앞에 내어놓을 터이니 너희는 그 중 하나를 택하여라.

이 성 안에 버티고 있다가는 칼에 맞아 죽거나 굶어 죽거나 병들어 죽을 것이다. 그러나 나가서 너희를 포위하고 있는 바빌론 군에게 항복하면 살 것이다. 목숨 하나 건지는 것을 불행 중 다행으로 여기게 될 것이다.

내가 똑똑히 말해 둔다. 나는 이 도읍을 잘 돌보아 줄 생각이 없어 재앙을 내리기로 결정하였다. 이 도읍은 바빌론 왕의 수중에 들어가서 불에 타 없어지고 말리라.'"

And touching the house of the king of Judah, say, Hear ye the word of the LORD;

O house of David, thus saith the LORD; Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver him that is spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my fury go out like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain, saith the LORD; which say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?

But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the LORD: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour all things round about it.

유다 왕실에게 말한다. 너희는 야훼의 말씀을 들어라.

"다윗 왕실에게 나 야훼가 말한다. 아침마다 바른 판결을 내려라. 억울하게 착취당하는 사람의 편을 들어주어라. 그러지 않으면, 너희의 괘씸한 소행을 보고 내가 화가 나서 너희를 불태우리니, 아무도 그 불을 끄지 못하리라.

계곡을 굽어보는 예루살렘아, 벌판에 우뚝 솟은 바위야! 내 말을 들어라. '누가 감히 우리에게 달려드느냐? 이 깊은 곳으로 누가 감히 쳐들어오느냐?' 하고 말한다마는, 나 이제 너희를 치리라.

나는 너희의 소행을 따라 벌하리라. 똑똑히 말해 둔다. 나는 수풀궁에 불을 질러 둘레를 온통 태워버리리라."
