- What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
- Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
- It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
- Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

- 르무엘아, 임금이 해서는 안 될 일이 있다. 포도주를 마시는 것은 왕이 할 일이 아니다. 독주를 즐기는 것은 고관들이 할 일이 아니다.
- 술을 마시면 법을 잊어버리고 모든 불쌍한 사람의 권리를 짓밟게 된다.

- Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
- Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
- Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
- Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

- 독주는 죽을 사람에게나 주어라. 포도주는 상심한 사람에게나 주어라.
- 그것을 마시면 가난을 잊고 괴로움을 생각지 아니하리라.
- 너는 할 말 못하는 사람과 버림받은 사람의 송사를 위해 입을 열어라.
- 입을 열어 바른 판결을 내려 불쌍하고 가난한 사람들의 권리를 세워주어라.
