	룻기 3:1-4:22 나오미는 룻과 보아스를 결혼시킬 것을 계획하고 룻은 나오미의 뜻을 따라 보아스에게 기업 무를 자의 의무를 이행하도록 요청했다. 이에 보아스는 그 절차를 이행하여 룻을 아내로 맞아 오벳을 낳았는데, 그는 다윗의 조부가 되었다.

	나오미의 계획(3:1-3:18)

Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?

And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.

Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.

And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.

And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.

어느 날 나오미는 며느리 룻에게 이렇게 말하였다. '얘야, 내가 너에게 남편을 구해 주어야겠다. 너도 이제 재혼하여 다시 행복한 가정을 이루고 살아야 하지 않겠느냐?

너는 보아스가 어떠냐? 그는 우리에게 친절을 베풀었고 또 우리에게 가까운 친척이기도 하다. 그가 오늘 밤에 타작 마당에서 보리를 키질할 것이다.

너는 목욕을 한 다음 몸에 향수를 바르고 제일 좋은 옷으로 차려 입고 타작 마당으로 내려가거라. 그러나 너는 그가 저녁 식사를 끝낼 때까지 그의 눈에 띄어서는 안 된다.

그가 눕는 곳을 잘 알아 두었다가 잠이 들면 너는 그의 발치로 가서 이불을 들고 거기 누워라. 그러면 네가 어떻게 해야 할 것인가를 그가 일러 줄 것이다.'

그러자 룻은 '어머니께서 말씀하신 대로 다 하겠습니다.' 하고 대답하였다.

And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.

And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.

And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.

And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.

And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.

그리고서 룻은 그 날 밤에 타작 마당으로 내려가서 시어머니가 지시한 대로 하였는데

보아스가 실컷 먹고 마시고 기분이 좋아 보리 낟가리 곁에 자리를 깔고 누웠을 때 룻은 슬그머니 가서 이불을 들고 그의 발치에 누웠다.

보아스는 한밤중에 일어나 몸을 돌이켜 보고 놀라지 않을 수 없었다. 어떤 여자가 자기 발치에 누워 있지 않겠는가!

그래서 그는 '네가 누구냐?' 하고 물었다. 그러자 룻이 '나는 당신의 종 룻입니다. 나와 결혼해 주세요. 당신은 나를 돌볼 책임이 있는 가까운 친척입니다.' 하고 대답하였다.

이때 보아스가 그녀에게 말하였다. '여호와께서 그대에게 복을 주시기 원하네. 가난하건 부유하건 젊은 사람에게 시집갈 생각을 하지 않고 시어머니를 받들어 섬기는 것을 볼 때 그대의 정성이 처음보다 나중이 더하구나.

And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.

And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.

Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.

And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.

Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.

이제 그대는 아무것도 두려워하지 말게. 내가 그대의 모든 요구를 들어주겠네. 그대가 현숙한 여인이라는 것은 우리 성 주민들도 다 아는 일이네.

그런데 한 가지 문제가 있어. 내가 그대를 돌볼 책임이 있는 가까운 친척인 것만은 사실이나 나보다 그대에게 더 가까운 친척이 있네.

그러니 오늘 밤은 여기서 머물게. 날이 새면 내가 그를 만나 서로 상의한 다음 결정하도록 하겠네. 만일 그가 그대와 결혼하겠다고 하면 다행으로 여겨 그대에 대한 책임을 다하도록 하겠네. 그러나 만일 그가 거절하면 대신 내가 그 책임을 다할 것을 살아 계신 여호와의 이름으로 맹세하네. 그러니 그대는 조금도 염려하지 말고 아침까지 여기 누워 있게'

그래서 룻은 아침까지 그의 발치에 누워 있다가 날이 밝기 전에 일찍 일어났다. 이것은 타작 마당에 여자가 들어온 것을 아무도 눈치채지 못하게 하라고 그가 말했기 때문이었다.

보아스가 룻에게 겉옷을 가져와서 펴게 한 다음 됫박으로 보리를 여섯 번 되어서 이워주자 그녀는 성으로 들어갔다.

And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.

And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.

Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.

룻이 집이 도착했을 때 그녀의 시어머니가 '얘야, 어떻게 되었느냐?' 하고 물었다. 그래서 룻은 보아스가 자기에게 한 일을 전부 이야기하고

덧붙여서 '내가 빈손으로 어머니에게 돌아가서는 안 된다면서 그가 이 보리를 되어서 이워 주었습니다.' 하였다.

그러자 시어머니는 '얘야, 이 일이 완전히 해결될 때까지 잠자코 있어야 한다. 보아스는 이 일을 그냥 내버려 둔 채 가만히 있을 사람이 아니다. 분명히 그는 오늘 중으로 이 일을 처리하고야 말 것이다.' 하고 말하였다.

	룻과 보아스의 결혼(4:1-4:22)

Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.

And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down.

And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's:

And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.

Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.

보아스가 성문에 올라가서 앉아 있는데 마침 그가 말하던 친척이 그리로 지나가고 있었다. 그래서 보아스는 그를 불러 앉혀 놓고

또 증인으로 그 성의 장로 10명을 초청하여 함께 앉힌 다음

그 친척에게 말하였다. '지금 모압 땅에서 돌아온 나오미가 우리 친척 엘리멜렉의 소유지를 팔려고 한다.

아무래도 네가 이 사실을 알아야 할 것 같아서 너를 불렀다. 만일 네가 그 밭을 사고 싶으면 여기 앉아 있는 장로들 앞에서 그것을 사도록 하라. 그러나 네가 사고 싶지 않으면 즉시 나에게 말하라. 네가 그 밭을 사지 않을 경우에는 내가 사도록 하겠다. 하지만 그 밭을 살 권리는 너에게 우선권이 있고 그 다음에는 나에게 있다.' '좋소. 내가 그 밭을 사겠소.'

'그런데 네가 나오미에게서 그 밭을 살 경우에는 모압 여자 룻과 결혼하여 죽은 그 여자의 남편 이름으로 그 유산을 이어받을 자식을 낳게 해 주어야 한다.'

And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.

Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel.

Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe.

And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.

Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.

'그렇다면 나는 그 밭을 살 수 없소. 그렇게 하다가는 내 재산만 축나지 않겠소. 나는 사지 않을 테니 당신이 그 밭을 사시오.'

옛날부터 이스라엘에는 유산을 물려받을 권리를 다른 사람에게 넘겨 줄 경우 그 권리를 넘겨 주는 자가 상대방에게 신 한 짝을 벗어 주어 그 일에 대한 증거물로 삼는 관습이 있었다.

그래서 그 사람도 신 한 짝을 벗어 주면서 '당신이 그 밭을 사시오.' 하였다.

그러자 보아스가 장로들과 그 곳에 모인 사람들에게 말하였다. '내가 나오미에게서 엘리멜렉과 그의 아들 기룐과 말론에게 속한 모든 재산을 산 사실에 대하여 오늘 여러분이 증인이 되었습니다.

그리고 말론의 아내였으나 지금은 과부로 있는 모압 여자 룻을 아내로 맞아 죽은 그 남편의 이름으로 그 재산이 보존되도록 하고 그의 이름이 자기 가문과 호적에서 사라지지 않도록 한 이 일에 대해서도 오늘 여러분이 증인이 되었습니다.'

And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:

And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.

So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.

And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.

And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.

그때 거기에 모인 사람들이 '그렇소. 우리가 증인이오.' 하자 장로 중 한 사람이 일어나 보아스에게 말하였다. '여호와께서 이제 당신의 아내가 될 이 여인을 이스라엘 각 지파의 조상들을 낳은 라헬과 레아처럼 되게 하시기 바라며 당신은 에브랏에서 유력하고 베들레헴에서 이름을 떨치는 사람이 되기를 빌겠소.

그리고 여호와께서 이 여자를 통하여 당신에게 주시는 자녀들은 다말과 유다 사이에서 난 우리 조상, 베레스의 자녀들처럼 되기를 원합니다.'

이렇게 해서 보아스는 룻과 결혼하게 되었다. 여호와께서 룻을 축복하셔서 마침내 룻이 아들을 낳자

성 안 여자들이 나오미에게 이렇게 말하였다. '여호와를 찬양합니다! 여호와께서 오늘 당신에게 유산을 이어받을 손자를 주셨으니 이 아이가 이스라엘에서 유명한 사람이 되기를 바랍니다.

당신의 며느리는 당신을 사랑하여 일곱 아들보다 더 많은 정성을 당신에게 쏟았습니다. 이제 이런 며느리가 당신에게 손자를 낳아 주었으므로 이 아이는 당신에게 새로운 삶을 안겨다 줄 것이며 나이 많은 당신을 잘 보살펴 줄 것입니다.'

And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.

And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,

And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,

And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,

나오미가 그 아기를 받아 기르자

이웃 여자들이 '나오미에게 아들이 생겼다!' 하며 그 이름을 '오벳'이라 불렀다. 후에 오벳은 다윗왕을 낳은 이새의 아버지가 되었다.

베레스부터 다윗까지의 족보는 이렇다. 베레스는 헤스론을 낳았고 헤스론은 람을, 람은 암미나답을, 암미나답은 나손을, 나손은 살몬을, 살몬은 보아스를, 보아스는 오벳을, 오벳은 이새를, 이새는 다윗을 낳았다.
