	사무엘상 26:1-28:25 사울은 다윗을 추격하다가 오히려 다윗에게 죽을 위기를 맞았으나 다윗은 또다시 그를 살려 주었다. 사울을 두려워한 다윗은 가드 왕 아기스에게 도피하였다. 블레셋의 침략에 위급해진 사울은 엔돌의 신접한 여인을 찾아가 사무엘의 혼을 불러 올리게 하였다. 그에게 나타난 사무엘은 사울의 범죄를 지적하며 그의 몰락과 죽음을 예고했다.

	사울을 다시 살려 준 다윗(26:1-26:25)

And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?

Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed.

And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him.

십 사람들이 기브아에 있는 사울에게 가서 다윗이 광야로 돌아와 하길라산에 숨어 있다고 말하자

사울은 3,000명의 정예병을 이끌고 그를 찾으러 나섰다.

사울은 다윗이 숨어 있는 유다 광야 맞은편 하길라산 길가에 진을 쳤으나 다윗은 사울이 도착한 것을 알고 정찰병들을 보내 그의 동향을 살피도록 하였다.

그 날 밤 다윗은 사울의 진지에 몰래 접근하여 사방을 살펴보았다. 그랬더니 사울 왕과 그의 군사령관 아브넬은 진지 안에서 자고 있었다. 그 주변에는 그의 부하들이 졸고 있었다.

Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee.

So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him.

Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.

And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD's anointed, and be guiltless?

David said furthermore, As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.

이때 다윗은 헷 사람 아히멜렉과 스루야의 아들이자 요압의 동생인 아비새에게 '누가 저 진지까지 나와 함께 내려가겠는가?' 하고 물었다. 그러자 아비새가 '내가 함께 가겠습니다.' 하고 대답하였다.

그래서 다윗과 아비새는 사울의 진지까지 갔는데 그때 사울은 진 가운데서 자고 있었고 그의 창은 땅에 꽂힌 채 그의 머리맡에 있었으며 아브넬과 그 부하들도 왕의 주변에 누워 있었다.

이때 아비새가 다윗에게 조용히 말하였다. '하나님이 오늘 당신의 원수를 당신에게 넘겨 주셨습니다. 그러므로 내가 가서 저 창으로 그를 찔러 땅에 꽂겠습니다. 두 번 찌를 것도 없이 단번에 해치우겠습니다.'

그러나 다윗은 아비새에게 이렇게 말하였다. '그건 안 된다. 그를 죽이지 말아라. 여호와께서 택하신 왕을 해하는 자가 어찌 죄가 없겠느냐?

분명히 말하지만 여호와께서 그를 치실 것이니 그는 죽을 때가 되어 죽거나 전쟁에서 죽게 될 것이다.

The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD's anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.

So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them.

Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them:

And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king?

And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.

그러나 여호와께서는 자기가 왕으로 택한 자를 내가 죽이지 못하도록 하셨다. 자, 그의 창과 물병만 가지고 여기서 나가자'

다윗이 사울의 머리맡에서 창과 물병을 가지고 나와 아비새와 함께 떠났으나 아무도 보거나 깨는 자가 없었다. 이것은 여호와께서 그들을 깊이 잠들게 하셨기 때문이었다.

그들은 그 진지 맞은편에 멀리 떨어져 있는 산꼭대기로 올라갔다.

그리고 다윗이 사울의 군대와 아브넬을 향하여 '아브넬아, 내 말 들리느냐?' 하고 소리치자 아브넬은 '네가 누구냐?' 하고 물었다.

그래서 다윗이 다시 외쳤다. '아브넬아, 너는 이스라엘에서 제일 강한 자가 아니냐? 그런데 어째서 너는 네 주 왕을 죽이려고 들어갔는데도 그를 경호하지 않았느냐?

This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD's anointed. And now see where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.

And Saul knew David's voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king.

And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand?

Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods.

Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.

아브넬, 너는 네 임무를 충실히 이행하지 않았다! 살아 계신 여호와의 이름으로 맹세하지만 너희는 여호와께서 왕으로 세우신 너희 주를 보호하지 않았으므로 마땅히 죽어야 한다. 왕의 머리 맡에 있던 왕의 창과 물병이 어디 있는지 찾아보아라!'

이때 사울은 다윗의 목소리를 알아듣고 물었다. '네가 내 아들 다윗이냐!' '그렇습니다. 왕은 어째서 나를 쫓고 있습니까? 내가 무엇을 했으며 또 내 죄가 무엇입니까?

만일 여호와께서 왕의 마음을 충동하여 나를 대적하게 하셨다면 예물을 드려서 여호와의 분노를 달래십시오. 그러나 만일 이것이 인간들의 책략에 불과한 것이라면 여호와의 저주가 그들에게 내리기를 바랍니다. 그들은 나를 여호와의 땅에서 쫓아내고 이방 신들을 섬기라고 하였습니다.

여호와 앞에서 멀리 떨어진 외국 땅에서 내가 죽어야 되겠습니까? 어째서 이스라엘 왕은 산에서 메추라기를 사냥하듯 이 벼룩과 같은 나의 생명을 찾아 나섰습니까?'

Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.

And David answered and said, Behold the king's spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.

The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the LORD delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD's anointed.

And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.

Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

'내가 범죄하였다. 내 아들 다윗아, 왕궁으로 돌아오너라. 네가 오늘 내 생명을 구했으니 내가 다시는 너를 해치려고 하지 않겠다. 내가 어리석게도 큰 잘못을 범했구나.'

'여기 왕의 창이 있습니다. 왕의 신하 중 한 사람을 이리로 보내 이것을 가져가십시오.

여호와께서는 선을 행하는 신실한 자에게 그대로 갚아주십니다. 그래서 오늘 여호와께서 왕을 나에게 넘겨 주셨을 때에도 나는 왕을 죽이려고 하지 않았습니다.

오늘 내가 왕의 생명을 소중히 여긴 것처럼 여호와께서 내 생명도 소중히 여기셔서 모든 환난에서 나를 구출해 주시기 원합니다.'

'내 아들 다윗아, 네가 복받기를 원한다. 너는 큰 일을 할 것이며 반드시 승리할 것이다.' 그런 다음에 다윗은 갈 길을 가고 사울은 왕궁으로 돌아갔다.

	다윗의 블레셋 망명(27:1-27:12)

And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.

And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal's wife.

And it was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.

And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?

그러나 다윗은 속으로 이렇게 생각하였다. '언젠가는 사울이 나를 죽일 것이다. 지금 내가 할 수 있는 최선의 일은 블레셋 사람의 땅으로 피신하는 길밖에 없다. 사울이 이스라엘 땅에서 나를 찾다가 없으면 포기할 것이며 그렇게 되면 결국 나는 안전할 것이다.'

그래서 다윗은 600명의 부하들과 그들의 가족을 데리고 가드로 가서 아기스 왕과 함께 살았으며 그의 두 아내, 이스르엘 여자 아히노암과 나발의 아내였던 갈멜 여자 아비가일도 그와 함께 있었다.

다윗이 가드로 도망했다는 말이 사울에게 전해지자 그는 두 번 다시 다윗을 추적하지 않았다.

어느 날 다윗이 아기스에게 말하였다. '만일 왕이 나를 좋게 보신다면 우리가 살 수 있도록 지방의 작은 성을 하나 주십시오. 왕의 종이 어찌 왕과 함께 궁전이 있는 성에서 살 수 있겠습니까?'

Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: wherefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.

And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.

And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.

And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish.

And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites.

그래서 아기스는 그에게 시글락을 주었다. 이것은 오늘날까지도 유다 왕에게 속해 있다.

그렇게 해서 다윗은 블레셋 땅에 16개월 동안 살았다.

다윗과 그의 부하들은 블레셋 땅에 사는 동안 그술 사람과 기르스 사람과 아말렉 사람을 침략했는데 이들은 옛날부터 이집트로 가는 길을 따라 술 부근에 살고 있던 사람들이었다.

다윗은 그 땅을 공격할 때마다 그 곳 사람들을 하나도 살려 두지 않고 모조리 죽였으며 양과 소와 나귀와 낙타와 의복을 약탈하고 돌아와 아기스에게 가곤 하였다.

그들이 돌아오면 아기스는 '너희가 오늘은 어디를 침략했느냐?' 하고 묻곤 했으며 이때 다윗은 '유다 네겝 지방과 여라무엘 사람들의 땅과 겐 사람들의 땅입니다.' 하고 대답하였다.

And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring tidings to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell on us, saying, So did David, and so will be his manner all the while he dwelleth in the country of the Philistines.

And Achish believed David, saying, He hath made his people Israel utterly to abhor him; therefore he shall be my servant for ever.

다윗이 남녀를 가리지 않고 모조리 죽인 것은 아무도 가드에 가서 그와 자기 부하들이 실제로 행한 일을 말하지 못하도록 하기 위해서였다. 이런 일은 다윗이 블레셋 땅에 사는 동안 되풀이 되었다.

아기스는 다윗을 믿고 또 이스라엘 사람들이 지금 그를 대단히 미워하고 있다고 생각하여 '이제 그가 여기 머물러 있으면서 평생 나를 섬겨야 할 것이다!' 하고 혼자 중얼거렸다.

	엔돌의 무당을 찾아간 사울(28:1-28:25)

And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men.

And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of mine head for ever.

Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.

And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in Gilboa.

And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled.

얼마 후에 블레셋 사람들이 이스라엘과 싸우려고 병력을 모집하고 있었다. 그때 아기스가 다윗을 보고 '너는 너와 네 부하들이 내 편에서 싸워야 한다는 것을 알고 있겠지?' 하였다.

그래서 다윗은 '물론입니다. 나는 왕의 종인 걸요. 왕은 우리가 얼마큼 도움이 되는지 곧 알게 될 것입니다.' 하고 대답하였다. 그러자 아기스는 다윗에게 '좋다! 내가 너를 평생 동안 내 경호원으로 삼겠다.' 하고 말하였다.

이제 사무엘이 죽어 모든 이스라엘 사람들은 슬퍼하며 그를 자기 고향 라마에 장사하였고 사울은 모든 영매와 점장이를 이스라엘 땅에서 추방해버린 때였다.

블레셋 사람들이 모여 수넴에 진을 치자 사울은 이스라엘군을 모아 길보아에 진을 쳤다.

사울은 어마어마한 블레셋군을 보고 두려워서 떨며 어떻게 해야 좋을지 몰라 여호와께 물어 보았다. 그러나 여호와께서는 꿈으로나 우림으로나 예언자를 통해서도 그에게 대답하지 않으셨다.

And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.

And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?

And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.

그때 사울이 그의 신하들에게 '영매를 찾아라. 내가 직접 가서 물어 보겠다.' 하자 그들은 '엔돌에 영매 한 사람이 있습니다.' 하고 대답하였다.

그래서 사울은 평복으로 변장하고 날이 어두워진 다음에 신하 두 사람을 데리고 그 여자의 집으로 찾아갔다. 사울은 그 여자에게 '내가 죽은 자와 이야기를 나누고 싶은데 그의 영을 좀 불러 주시오.' 하고 부탁하였다.

그러나 그 여자는 '당신도 알다시피 사울 왕은 영매와 점장이를 모조리 추방시켰습니다. 그런데 어째서 당신은 나를 함정에 빠뜨려 죽게 하려고 합니까?' 하였다.

그래서 사울은 여호와의 이름으로 맹세하며 말하였다. '여호와께서 살아 계시는 한 당신은 이 일로 벌을 받지 않을 것이오.'

Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.

And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.

And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth.

And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself.

And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.

'내가 누구를 불러 올릴까요?' '사무엘을 불러 주시오.'

그 여자는 사무엘을 보자 사울을 향하여 외쳤다. '당신은 어째서 나를 속였습니까? 당신은 사울 왕이 아니십니까!'

'두려워하지 말아라. 무엇이 보이느냐?' '한 유령이 땅에서 올라오는 것이 보입니다.'

'그가 어떻게 생겼느냐?' '노인처럼 생겼는데 겉옷을 입었습니다.' 사울은 그가 사무엘인 줄 알고 얼굴을 땅에 대고 그에게 절하였다.

그러자 사무엘이 사울에게 물었다. '네가 어째서 나를 불러 올려 번거롭게 하느냐?' '내가 아주 다급하게 되었습니다. 블레셋 사람과 전쟁이 붙었는데 하나님은 나를 떠나서 예언자를 통해서나 꿈으로도 나에게 대답해 주지 않으십니다. 그래서 내가 어떻게 해야 좋을지 몰라 당신에게 물어 보려고 당신을 불러 올렸습니다.'

Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?

And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:

Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.

Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.

Then Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.

'여호와께서 너를 떠나 너의 대적이 되었다면 어째서 네가 나에게 묻느냐?

여호와께서는 나를 통해 예언하신 대로 나라를 너에게서 빼앗아 대신 다윗에게 주셨다.

네가 여호와의 명령에 불순종하여 아말렉 사람과 그들의 소유물을 완전히 없애지 않았기 때문에 여호와께서 너에게 이 일을 행하신 것이다.

여호와께서 너와 이스라엘군을 블레셋 사람에게 넘겨 줄 것이며 너와 네 아들들은 내일 나와 함께 있을 것이다.'

이 말을 듣는 순간 사울은 몸이 뻣뻣한 채 땅바닥에 그대로 쓰러졌다. 이것은 그가 하루 종일 먹지 못하여 기진한 탓도 있었지만 사무엘의 말을 듣고 너무 두려웠기 때문이었다.

And the woman came unto Saul, and saw that he was sore troubled, and said unto him, Behold, thine handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have hearkened unto thy words which thou spakest unto me.

Now therefore, I pray thee, hearken thou also unto the voice of thine handmaid, and let me set a morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.

But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, compelled him; and he hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed.

And the woman had a fat calf in the house; and she hasted, and killed it, and took flour, and kneaded it, and did bake unleavened bread thereof:

And she brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they did eat. Then they rose up, and went away that night.

그 여자는 사울이 아주 괴로와하는 것을 보고 '이 여종은 목숨을 아끼지 않고 왕의 명령에 순종하였습니다.

이제 이 여종이 하는 말을 들으십시오. 제가 왕을 위해서 먹을 것을 준비해 오겠습니다. 잡수시고 돌아가실 때 힘을 얻으십시오.' 하였다.

사울은 처음에 거절하며 아무것도 먹지 않겠다고 했으나 그의 신하들까지 강권하자 그는 결국 그들의 권유에 못이겨 땅에서 일어나 침상에 앉았다.

그 여자는 자기 집에 있는 살진 송아지 한 마리를 급히 잡고 또 밀가루를 반죽하여 누룩을 넣지 않고 빵을 만들어

그것을 왕과 그의 신하들 앞에 갖다 놓았다. 그러자 그들은 그 음식을 먹고 그 날 밤으로 떠났다.
