- Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
- For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
- For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
- He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
- Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

- 내 아들들아, 너희 아버지가 가르치는 말을 잘 들어라. 유의해서 들으면 깨달음을 얻을 것이다.
- 내가 너희에게 건전한 것을 가르친다. 너희는 나의 교훈을 저버리지 말아라.
- 나도 한때는 외아들로서 부모의 사랑을 받던 어린 시절이 있었다.
- 그때 나의 아버지는 이런 말씀으로 나를 교훈하셨다. '내가 하는 말을 기억하고 잊지 말아라. 내 명령을 지켜라. 그러면 네가 살 것이다.
- 지혜와 깨달음을 얻어라. 내 말을 잊어버리거나 무시하지 말아라.
