예레미야 5:1-6:30

 유다의 선지자와 제사장 그리고 백성들 모두가 하나님의 규례를 어기며 가난한 자와 약한 자를 착취하는 죄를 범하였기 때문에 유다는 하나님의 심판을 피할 수 없었다. 하나님께서는 심판이 바벨론에 의한 전쟁으로 시행될 것이라고 선언하셨다. 임박한 바벨론의 침공을 앞두고 예레미야는 회개를 촉구했으나 백성과 지도자들은 이를 무시하고 듣지 않았다.
  
  유다 심판 이유(5:1-5:31)    
 
  1. Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.
  2. And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.
  3. O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
  4. Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.
  5. I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.
  1. '너희는 예루살렘 거리로 가서 이리저리 왔다갔다하며 사방 찾아보아라. 너희가 만일 정직하고 진실한 자를 한 사람이라도 발견하면 내가 이 성을 용서하겠다.
  2. 너희는 나 여호와의 이름으로 맹세한다고 말하지만 그것은 거짓말이다.'
  3. 여호와여, 주의 눈은 진리를 찾지 않으십니까? 주께서 그들을 치셨으나 그들은 아픔을 느끼지 않았으며 주께서 그들을 거의 전멸시키다시피 하셨으나 그들은 주의 징계를 받아들이지 않고 여전히 고집을 피우며 돌아오지 않았습니다.
  4. 그때 나는 이런 생각을 했습니다. '이들은 정말 불쌍하고 미련한 자들이구나. 자기 하나님이 무엇을 요구하시며 무엇을 원하는지도 모르고 있다.
  5. 내가 지도자들에게 가서 말하겠다. 그들은 여호와의 길과 하나님이 요구하시는 것이 무엇인지 알고 있다.' 그러나 그들은 모두 하나같이 자기들의 하나님을 거절해 버렸습니다.
  1. Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.
  2. How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.
  3. They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.
  4. Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
  5. Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD's.
  1. 그러므로 숲속에서 나오는 사자가 그들을 죽이며 사막의 이리가 갑자기 그들을 덮치며 표범이 그들의 성 주변에 숨어 있다가 성에서 나오는 자마다 모조리 찢어버릴 것입니다.
  2. 내가 어떻게 너희를 용서하겠느냐? 너희 자녀들까지도 나를 버리고 신이 아닌 것들을 섬겼다. 내가 그들을 배불리 먹였으나 오히려 그들은 간음하며 창녀의 집에 모여들었다.
  3. 그들은 잘먹고 정욕이 왕성한 수말처럼 서로 색정을 이기지 못해 자기 이웃의 아내를 찾아 다닌다.
  4. 나 여호와가 말한다. 내가 이런 일을 보고서도 어찌 그들을 벌하지 않으며 이런 민족에게 보복하지 않겠느냐?
  5. 너희는 그 포도밭을 헤치고 다니며 포도나무를 해치되 완전히 못 쓰도록 하지는 말고 그 가지만 꺾어 버려라. 그 가지는 나 여호와의 것이 아니다.
  1. For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.
  2. They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:
  3. And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.
  4. Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
  5. Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
  1. 이스라엘과 유다 백성들이 나를 완전히 배반하였다. 나 여호와가 말한다.'
  2. 그들은 여호와를 인정하지 않고 이렇게 말하였다. '여호와는 아무것도 아니다. 어떤 불행도 우리에게 닥치지 않을 것이며 우리가 칼이나 기근을 보지 않을 것이다.
  3. 예언자들도 바람에 불과하다. 그들에게는 여호와의 말씀이 없으므로 그들이 예언한 바로 그 재앙이 그들 자신에게 미칠 것이다.'
  4. 그래서 전능하신 하나님 여호와께서 말씀하신다. '그들이 이런 말을 하였으므로 내가 네 입에 있는 내 말을 불이 되게 하고 이 백성들은 나무가 되게 할 것이니 그 불이 그들을 태워 버릴 것이다.
  5. 이스라엘 백성들아, 내가 먼 곳에서 너희를 칠 나라를 불러들이겠다. 그 나라는 역사가 깊고 막강한 나라이다. 너희는 그 나라 말을 알지 못하고 그 언어를 이해하지 못할 것이다.
  1. Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.
  2. And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.
  3. Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.
  4. And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not your's.
  5. Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,
  1. 그들의 궁수병들은 무자비하게 죽이는 용감한 군인들이다.
  2. 그들은 너희가 추수한 농작물과 양식을 삼킬 것이며 너희 아들 딸들을 죽이고 또 너희 양떼와 소떼를 삼키며 너희 포도나무와 무화과나무를 해치고 너희가 의지하는 견고한 성들을 무너뜨릴 것이다.
  3. 그러나 그 때에도 내가 너희를 완전히 전멸시키지는 않을 것이다.
  4. 그들이 만일 '우리 하나님 여호와께서는 어째서 우리에게 이 모든 일을 행하셨는가?' 하고 물으면 너는 이렇게 대답하라. '너희가 여호와를 버리고 너희 땅에서 이방 신들을 섬겼으므로 이제는 너희가 너희 땅이 아닌 곳에서 이방인들을 섬겨야 할 것이다.'
  5. 너는 유다와 이스라엘 백성에게 나 여호와의 말을 이렇게 선포하라.
  1. Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:
  2. Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
  3. But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.
  4. Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
  5. Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.
  1. 눈이 있어도 보지 못하고 귀가 있어도 듣지 못하는 미련하고 지각 없는 백성들아, 들어라.
  2. 어째서 너희는 나를 두려워하지 않느냐? 어째서 너희가 내 앞에서 떨지 않느냐? 내가 모래를 두어 바다의 한계를 정하고 그것으로 영원한 경계를 삼아 그 이상 넘지 못하게 하였으므로 아무리 바다가 넘실거리며 파도가 쳐도 그것을 넘지 못한다.
  3. 그러나 너희 백성들은 고집세고 반역하는 마음이 있어서 나를 배반하고 돌아섰다.
  4. 내가 너희에게 때를 따라 가을비와 봄비를 내려 주고 추수하는 계절을 주었으나 너희는 나를 존중하거나 두려워하지 않았다.
  5. 그래서 너희는 너희 죄 때문에 내가 주는 좋은 복을 빼앗기고 말았다.
  1. For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.
  2. As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.
  3. They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
  4. Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
  5. A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;
  1. 내 백성들 가운데는 새를 잡기 위해 그물을 치는 사람처럼 사람을 잡기 위해 덫을 놓는 악인이 있다.
  2. 새장에 새가 가득하듯이 그들의 집에는 사기친 물건들이 가득하다. 그렇게 해서 그들은 세력있는 부자가 되어
  3. 잘먹고 기름이 번질번질하다. 또 그들의 악한 행동에는 끝이 없어서 고아들의 소송문제를 공정하게 처리해 주지 않으며 가난한 자들의 권리도 옹호하지 않는다.
  4. 내가 이런 일을 보고서도 어떻게 그들을 벌하지 않겠느냐? 이런 나라에 내가 보복하지 않겠느냐? 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.
  5. 이 땅에 무섭고 놀라운 일이 벌어지고 있다.
  1. The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
  1. 예언자들은 거짓된 것을 예언하며 제사장들은 그 예언자들의 지시에 따라 다스리고 내 백성들은 그것을 좋게 여기고 있으니 그 결과는 뻔한 일이다.'
 
  임박한 멸망(6:1-6:30)    
 
  1. O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.
  2. I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.
  3. The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.
  4. Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.
  5. Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.
  1. '베냐민 자손들아, 안전하게 피신하라. 예루살렘에서 도망하라. 드고아에서 나팔을 불고 벧-학게렘에서 봉화를 올려라. 재앙과 큰 멸망이 북에서 밀어닥치려고 한다.
  2. 아름다운 시온성을 내가 완전히 없애 버리겠다.
  3. 왕들이 그들의 군대를 이끌고 와서 그 주변에 천막을 치고 너희 목장을 분배할 것이며
  4. 그들은 또 이렇게 말할 것이다. '너희는 예루살렘을 칠 준비를 하라. 일어나라 정오에 공격하자. 아, 아깝다. 날이 거의 저물어 저녁 그림자가 길어졌구나.
  5. 일어나라. 밤에 공격하여 그 궁전을 파괴해 버리자.'
  1. For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.
  2. As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.
  3. Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.
  4. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.
  5. To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
  1. 전능하신 여호와께서 말씀하신다. '너희는 나무를 베어서 예루살렘을 향하여 공성용 흉벽을 쌓아라. 이 성은 벌을 받아 마땅하다. 그 안에는 포악한 일이 가득하다.
  2. 샘이 물을 솟구쳐 내듯이 그 성은 악을 뿜어 내고 있다. 폭력과 파괴의 소리가 그 성에서 들리니 내가 언제나 질병과 상처를 보게 되는구나.
  3. 예루살렘아, 이것은 마지막 경고이다. 네가 만일 듣지 않으면 내가 너를 버리고 너를 황폐하게 하여 사람이 살지 않는 땅으로 만들어 버릴 것이다.'
  4. 전능하신 여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. '너희 원수들이 포도를 따내는 것처럼 이스라엘에 남은 자를 모조리 집어낼 것이다. 그러므로 너는 아직 시간이 있을 때에 될 수 있는 대로 모든 사람을 구출하라.'
  5. 내가 경고한다고 해서 내 말을 들을 사람이 있겠습니까? 그들은 귀가 닫혀져서 들을 수가 없습니다. 그들은 여호와의 말씀을 수치스럽게 여기고 그것을 달갑게 여기지 않습니다.
  1. Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.
  2. And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
  3. For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
  4. They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
  5. Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
  1. 그러므로 여호와의 분노가 나에게 가득하여 내가 견딜 수 없습니다. '나의 분노를 거리에 있는 아이들과 모여 있는 청년들에게 쏟아라. 남편들과 아내들이 잡혀가고 늙은 노인들까지 붙들려 갈 것이다.
  2. 내가 이 땅의 백성들을 벌하겠다. 그들의 집과 밭은 물론 그들의 아내까지 남의 소유가 될 것이다.
  3. 이것은 그들이 가장 말단에 있는 사람으로부터 가장 높은 자리에 있는 사람까지 모두 물질을 탐하고 심지어 예언자들과 제사장들까지도 거짓된 일을 하고 있기 때문이다.
  4. 그들은 내 백성의 상처가 별로 숭하지 않은 것처럼 그것을 어루만지며 '평안하다. 평안하다.' 하고 말하지만 사실 평안은 없다.
  5. 그들이 자기들의 더러운 행위를 부끄럽게 여겼느냐? 아니다. 그들은 조금도 부끄러워하지 않았을 뿐만 아니라 얼굴 하나 붉히지 않았다. 그러므로 그들은 다른 자들과 함께 거꾸러질 것이니 내가 벌을 내릴 때에 그들은 파멸될 것이다. 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.'
  1. Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
  2. Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.
  3. Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.
  4. Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.
  5. To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.
  1. 여호와께서 말씀하신다. '내가 너희에게 너희는 길거리에 서서 바라보아라. 너희가 옛날에 걷던 선한 길이 어느 것인지 알아보고 그 길로 걸어가거라. 그러면 너희가 마음의 안식을 찾을 것이다 하였으나 너희는 우리가 그 길로 가지 않겠습니다 하고 대답하였다.
  2. 그때 내가 파수꾼들을 세워 너희에게 그들이 부는 나팔소리의 경고를 들으라고 했으나 너희는 '우리가 듣지 않겠습니다.' 하고 대답하였다.
  3. 그러므로 세상 나라들아, 내 백성에게 일어날 일을 듣고 배워라.
  4. 땅이여, 들어라. 내가 이 백성에게 재앙을 내릴 것이다. 이것은 그들의 죄에 대한 결과이다. 그들은 내 말을 듣지 않았고 또 내 법을 거절하였다.
  5. 무슨 목적으로 시바에서 유향을 가져오며 먼 땅에서 향품을 가져오는가? 나는 너희가 불로 태워 바치는 번제를 받지 않으며 그 제물도 기쁘게 여기지 않는다.
  1. Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.
  2. Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.
  3. They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.
  4. We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.
  5. Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.
  1. 그러므로 나 여호와가 말한다. 보라, 내가 이 백성들 앞에 장애물을 놓겠다. 아버지와 아들이 함께 넘어질 것이며 그 이웃과 친구들이 함께 망할 것이다.'
  2. 여호와께서 말씀하신다. '보라, 한 민족이 북에서 나오며 큰 나라가 땅 끝에서 일어날 것이다.
  3. 활과 창으로 무장한 그들은 잔인하기 짝이 없다. 그들은 성난 바다처럼 함성을 지르며 말을 타고 예루살렘을 치려고 전투 대형으로 나아올 것이다.'
  4. 우리는 그 소문을 듣고 손에 맥이 풀렸으며 해산하는 여자처럼 두려움과 고통 가운데 사로잡혔다.
  5. 너희는 밭에도 나가지 말고 길에서 걸어다니지도 말아라. 원수들은 칼을 가졌고 사방에는 두려움이 있다.
  1. O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.
  2. I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.
  3. They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.
  4. The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.
  5. Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.
  1. 내 백성들아, 너희는 삼베 옷을 입고 잿더미에 앉아 외아들을 잃은 것처럼 슬퍼하며 통곡하여라. 멸망시킬 자가 갑자기 밀어닥칠 것이다.
  2. 그때 여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. '내가 이미 너를 내 백성 가운데서 시금석으로 삼아 그들을 살피고 시험하도록 하였다.
  3. 그들은 모두 고집스런 반역자들이며 다니면서 비방이나 하고 놋처럼 뻔뻔스럽고 철처럼 억세며 하나같이 다 부패하였다.
  4. 풀무 불을 세게 하면 납이 녹아 없어지므로 제련하는 자의 수고가 헛되게 되는 것처럼 악한 자를 계속 연단하는 것도 소용없는 일이다.
  5. 나 여호와가 그들을 버렸으므로 사람들이 그들을 쓸모없는 '은 찌꺼기'라고 부를 것이다.'
 
  경책(警責, 6:10)  경고하여 책망함.  
  심상히(尋常, 6:14)  ‘심각한 상태가 아닌 것처럼’이란 뜻으로, 여기서는 유다 백성이 죄를 가볍게 여겼다는 의미
