- The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
- They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
- And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.
- Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
- He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

- 에브라임의 자손은 무장을 하고, 활을 들고 나섰지만, 정작 전쟁이 일어났을 때에 물러가고 말았다.
- 그들은 하나님과 맺은 언약을 지키지 않으며, 그 교훈 따르기를 거절하였다.
- 그들은 그가 이루신 일들과 그가 보이신 기적들을 잊어버렸다.
- 이집트 땅, 소안 평야에서, 하나님께서는 조상의 눈앞에서 기적을 일으키셨다.
- 바다를 갈라서 물을 강둑처럼 서게 하시고, 그들을 그리로 걸어가게 하셨다.

- In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.
- He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.
- He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
- And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.
- And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

- 낮에는 구름으로, 밤에는 불빛으로 인도하셨다.
- 광야에서 바위를 쪼개셔서, 깊은 샘에서 솟아오르는 것같이 물을 흡족하게 마시게 하셨다.
- 반석에서 시냇물이 흘러나오게 하시며, 강처럼 물이 흘러내리게 하셨다.
- 그러나 그들은 계속하여 하나님께 죄를 짓고, 가장 높으신 분을 광야에서 거역하며,
- 마음 속으로 하나님을 시험하면서, 입맛대로 먹을 것을 요구하였다.

- Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
- Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
- Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
- Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

- 그들은 하나님을 거스르면서 "하나님이 무슨 능력으로 이 광야에서 먹거리를 공급할 수 있으랴?
- 그가 바위를 쳐서 물이 솟아나오게 하고, 그 물이 강물이 되게 하여 세차게 흐르게는 하였지만, 그가 어찌 자기 백성에게 밥을 줄 수 있으며, 고기를 먹일 수 있으랴?" 하고 말하였다.
- 주님께서 듣고 노하셔서, 야곱을 불길로 태우셨고, 이스라엘에게 진노하셨다.
- 그들이 하나님을 믿지 않고, 그의 구원을 신뢰하지 않았기 때문이다.
