- Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,
- The son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,
- The son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,
- The son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,
- The son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest:

- 이런 일들이 지나가고 난 다음이다. 페르시아의 아닥사스다 왕이 다스리던 때에, 에스라라는 사람이 있었다. 그의 아버지는 스라야이고, 할아버지는 아사랴이며, 그 윗대는 힐기야요,
- 그 윗대는 살룸이요, 그 윗대는 사독이요, 그 윗대는 아히둡이요,
- 그 윗대는 아마랴요, 그 윗대는 아사랴요, 그 윗대는 므라욧이요,
- 그 윗대는 스라히야요, 그 윗대는 웃시엘이요, 그 윗대는 북기요,
- 그 윗대는 아비수아요, 그 윗대는 비느하스요, 그 윗대는 엘르아살이요, 그 윗대는 대제사장 아론이다.

- This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.
- And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.
- And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.
- For upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.
- For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.

- 바로 그 에스라가 바빌로니아에서 돌아왔다. 그는 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 주신 모세의 율법에 능통한 학자이다. 주 하나님이 그를 잘 보살피셨으므로, 왕은 에스라가 요청하는 것은 무엇이나 다 주었다.
- 아닥사스다 왕 칠년에, 일부 이스라엘 자손들과 몇몇 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 노래하는 사람들과 성전 문지기들과 성전 막일꾼들이 예루살렘으로 올라올 때에,
- 에스라도 그들과 함께 올라왔다. 그가 예루살렘에 닿은 것은, 왕이 다스린 지 칠년이 된 해의 다섯째 달이다.
- 그가 바빌로니아를 떠난 것은 첫째 달 초하루이다. 하나님이 그를 잘 보살펴 주셔서, 다섯째 달 초하루에 예루살렘에 닿을 수 있었다.
- 에스라는 주님의 율법을 깊이 연구하고 지켰으며, 또한 이스라엘 사람들에게 율례와 규례를 가르치는 일에 헌신하였다.

- Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.
- Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time.
- I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.
- Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellors, to enquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thine hand;
- And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem,

- 에스라는 제사장이면서 학자이며, 이스라엘이 받은 주님의 계명과 율례를 많이 배운 사람이었다. 다음은 아닥사스다 왕이 에스라에게 보낸 칙령을 옮겨 적은 것이다.
- "왕 중의 왕 아닥사스다는 하늘의 하나님의 율법에 통달한 학자 에스라 제사장에게 칙령을 내린다.
- 나의 지시는 다음과 같다. 내가 다스리는 나라에 사는 이스라엘 사람 가운데서, 그대와 함께 예루살렘으로 가고자 하는 사람은, 제사장이든지 레위 사람이든지, 누구든지 가도 좋다.
- 나와 나의 일곱 보좌관이 그대를 보내는 것이니, 그대가 잘 아는 하나님의 율법에 따라서, 유다와 예루살렘이 어떠한지를 살펴보아라.
- 그뿐 아니라, 그대는, 나와 나의 보좌관들이 예루살렘에 계시는 이스라엘의 하나님께 기쁜 마음으로 드리는 은과 금을 가지고 가거라.

- And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:
- That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.
- And whatsoever shall seem good to thee, and to thy brethren, to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.
- The vessels also that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, those deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.
- And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king's treasure house.

- 또한 바빌로니아의 모든 지방에서 그대가 얻을 은과 금도 가지고 가고, 백성과 제사장들이 예루살렘에 있는 하나님의 성전에 바치는 자원예물도 가지고 가거라.
- 그 돈으로는 반드시 수송아지와 숫양과 어린 양을 사고, 거기에 곁들여 곡식제물과 부어 드리는 제물도 사서, 그것들을 예루살렘에 있는, 그대가 섬기는 하나님의 성전의 제단 위에 함께 제물로 드려라.
- 그 나머지 은과 금은 그대가 섬기는 하나님의 뜻에 따라서, 그대와 그대의 동료 유다 사람들이 가장 좋다고 생각하는 일에 쓰도록 하고,
- 그대에게 맡긴 모든 그릇은 예루살렘의 하나님께 바치되, 그대가 섬기는 하나님의 성전에서 예배를 드릴 때에 쓰도록 하여라.
- 그 밖에 그대가 섬기는 하나님의 성전에서 써야 할 것이 더 있으면, 국고에서 공급받도록 하여라.

- And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,
- Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.
- Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?
- Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.
- And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.

- 이제 나 아닥사스다 왕은 유프라테스 강 서쪽 지방의 모든 국고 출납관들에게 명령한다. 하늘의 하나님의 율법에 통달한 학자 에스라 제사장이 너희에게 요청하는 것은 무엇이든지 어김없이 그에게 주도록 하여라.
- 은은 백 달란트까지, 밀은 백 고르까지, 포도주는 백 밧까지, 기름은 백 밧까지 주고, 소금은 제한없이 주도록 하여라.
- 하늘의 하나님의 성전에 관하여 하늘의 하나님이 규정하신 것은, 하나도 어기지 말고 그대로 지켜라. 나와 내 자손이 다스릴 나라에 하나님의 분노가 내리도록 그대로 둘 수는 없기 때문이다.
- 그대들은 또한 제사장들이나 레위 사람들이나 노래하는 사람들이나 성전 문지기들이나 성전 막일꾼들이나 성전에서 일하는 다른 일꾼들에게, 조공이나 세금이나 관세를 물려서는 안 된다.
- 또 그대 에스라는, 그대가 섬기는 하나님이 그대에게 주신 지혜를 따라, 그대가 섬기는 하나님의 율법을 잘 아는 사람들 가운데서 법관들과 판사들을 뽑아 세워, 유프라테스 강 서쪽에 있는 모든 백성의 재판을 맡아 보게 하여라. 율법을 잘 알지 못하는 사람들은 그대들이 가르쳐라.

- And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.
- Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:
- And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the king's mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.

- 하나님의 율법과 왕의 명령대로 따르지 아니하는 자는, 반드시 죽이거나 귀양을 보내거나 재산을 빼앗거나 옥에 가두거나 하여, 엄하게 다스려라."
- 주 우리 조상의 하나님을 찬양하여라. 하나님은 왕에게 예루살렘에 있는 주님의 성전을 영화롭게 하려는 마음을 주셨다.
- 나에게 자비를 베푸셔서, 내가, 왕과 보좌관들과 권세 있는 고관들에게 총애를 받게 하여 주셨다. 주 나의 하나님이 이처럼 나를 돌보아 주시므로, 나는 힘을 얻어서, 이스라엘 백성 가운데서 지도자들을 불러 모아, 함께 예루살렘으로 올라올 수 있었다.
