예레미야 9:1-10:25

 유다 멸망에 대한 애곡의 분위기가 극도로 고조된 가운데 예레미야는 하나님의 공의를 들어 징계의 불가피성을 밝혔고, 유다를 멸망케 한 우상 숭배의 실상을 간파하였다. 그는 하나님께서는 창조주로서 능력의 근원이 되시며 인생의 화복을 주관하시는 분이심에 비해, 인간에 의해 만들어진 우상은 무능할 뿐임을 공포하였다.
  
  배반한 유다의 참상(9:1-9:26)    
 
  1. Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!
  2. Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they be all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.
  3. And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.
  4. Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.
  5. And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.
  1. 살해된 나의 백성, 나의 딸을 생각하면서, 내가 낮이나 밤이나 울 수 있도록, 누가 나의 머리를 물로 채워 주고, 나의 두 눈을 눈물 샘이 되게 하여 주면 좋으련만!
  2. 누군가가 저 사막에다가 내가 쉴 나그네의 휴식처를 마련하여, 내가 이 백성을 버리고 백성에게서 멀리 떠나, 그리로 가서 머물 수 있게 하여 주면 좋으련만! 참으로 이 백성은 모두 간음하는 자들이요, 배신자의 무리이다.
  3. "내 백성이라는 것들은 활을 당기듯 혀를 놀려 거짓을 일삼는다. 진실은 없고, 그들의 폭력만이 이 땅에서 판을 친다. 참으로 그들은 악에 악을 더하려고 돌아다닐 뿐, 내가 그들의 하나님인 줄은 알지 못한다. 나 주의 말이다."
  4. "친척끼리 서로 거침없이 사기를 치고, 이웃끼리 서로 비방하며 돌아다니니, 너희는 서로 이웃을 조심하고, 어떤 친척도 믿지 말아라!
  5. 누구나 이렇게 자기 이웃을 속이며, 서로 진실을 말하지 않고 있다. 그들의 혀는 거짓말을 하는 데 길들여져 있다. 죄 짓는 일을 그치려 하지 않는다.
  1. Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.
  2. Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of my people?
  3. Their tongue is as an arrow shot out; it speaketh deceit: one speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in heart he layeth his wait.
  4. Shall I not visit them for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
  5. For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none can pass through them; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the fowl of the heavens and the beast are fled; they are gone.
  1. 서로 속고 속이는 일을 되풀이하면서 기만 가운데 살기 때문에, 아무도 나를 알려고 하지를 않는다. 나 주의 말이다.
  2. 나 만군의 주가 말한다. 보아라, 내가 내 백성을 금속 단련하듯 단련하며, 시험하여 보겠다. 내 백성이 악을 저질렀으니, 죄 많은, 이 가련한 백성을, 내가 달리 어떤 방법으로 다룰 수 있겠느냐?
  3. 내 백성의 혀는 독이 묻은 화살이다. 입에서 나오는 말은 거짓말뿐이다. 입으로는 서로 평화를 이야기하지만, 마음 속에서는 서로 해칠 생각을 품고 있다.
  4. 이러한 자들을 내가 벌하지 않을 수가 있겠느냐? 나 주의 말이다. 이러한 백성에게 내가 보복하지 않을 수가 있겠느냐?"
  5. 나는 산들을 보고 울며 탄식합니다. 광야의 초원을 바라보고, 슬픈 노래를 읊겠습니다. 그처럼 무성하던 곳들이 모두 황무지가 되었고, 지나다니는 사람이 하나도 없습니다. 가축 떼의 울음 소리도 들려 오지 않습니다. 공중의 새에서부터 들의 짐승에 이르기까지, 다 다른 곳으로 도망하여 사라졌습니다.
  1. And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.
  2. Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?
  3. And the LORD saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein;
  4. But have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:
  5. Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.
  1. "내가 예루살렘을 돌무더기로 만들어서 여우들이 우글거리는 소굴이 되게 하고, 유다의 성읍들을 황무지로 바꾸어 놓아 아무도 살 수 없게 하겠다."
  2. 이 땅이 왜 망하였는지, 왜 사막처럼 황폐해졌는지, 왜 행인마저 끊어졌는지, 이것을 알아낼 만큼 지혜 있는 사람이 누구인가? 이 까닭을 말할 수 있도록, 주님의 입에서 직접 말씀을 받은 사람이 누구인가?
  3. 주님께서 대답하셨다. "나는 이 백성에게 나의 율법을 주면서 지키라고 하였다. 그러나 그들이 그것을 버리고, 나의 말을 순종하지 않고, 실천하지 않았다.
  4. 그들은 오히려 자기들의 고집대로 살고, 조상이 섬기라고 가르쳐 준 바알 신들을 따라다녔다.
  5. 그러므로 나 만군의 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 말한다. 내가 이 백성에게 쓴 쑥을 먹이며, 독을 탄 물을 마시게 하겠다.
  1. I will scatter them also among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.
  2. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for cunning women, that they may come:
  3. And let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.
  4. For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we spoiled! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast us out.
  5. Yet hear the word of the LORD, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbour lamentation.
  1. 또 내가, 그들도 모르고 그들의 조상도 알지 못하던 이방 민족 가운데 그들을 흩어 놓고, 내가 그들을 전멸시킬 때까지 칼이 그들을 뒤쫓게 하겠다."
  2. "나 만군의 주가 말한다. 너희는 잘 생각하여 보고, 곡하는 여인들을 불러들이고, 장송곡을 부를 여인들을 데리고 오너라."
  3. "서둘러 와서, 우리를 도와서 조가를 불러 다오. 우리의 눈에서 눈물이 흘러 내리고, 우리의 눈시울에서 눈물이 쏟아지게 하여 다오!"
  4. 시온에서 통곡하는 소리가 들려 온다. '어쩌다가 우리가 이렇게 망하였으며, 이토록 수치를 당하게 되었는가? 적군이 우리의 거처를 모조리 부수었으니, 우리는 이제 우리의 땅을 떠나야만 한다.'
  5. "여인들아, 너희는 주님의 말씀을 들어라. 너희는 귀를 기울여서, 그의 입에서 나오는 말씀을 받아들여라. 딸들에게 애도하는 법을 가르치고, 너희도 장송곡 부르는 법을 서로 익혀라.
  1. For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets.
  2. Speak, Thus saith the LORD, Even the carcases of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman, and none shall gather them.
  3. Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
  4. But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
  5. Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised;
  1. 죽음이 우리의 창문을 넘어서 들어왔고, 우리의 왕궁에까지 들어왔으며, 거리에서는 어린 아이들이 사정없이 죽어 가고, 장터에서는 젊은이들이 죽어 간다."
  2. "나 주의 말이다. 너는 이렇게 전하여라. '사람의 시체가 들판에 거름 더미처럼 널려 있다. 거두어 가지 않은 곡식단이 들에 그대로 널려 있듯이, 시체가 널려 있다.'"
  3. "나 주가 말한다. 지혜 있는 사람은 자기의 지혜를 자랑하지 말아라. 용사는 자기의 힘을 자랑하지 말아라. 부자는 자기의 재산을 자랑하지 말아라.
  4. 오직 자랑하고 싶은 사람은, 이것을 자랑하여라. 나를 아는 것과, 나 주가 긍휼과 공평과 공의를 세상에 실현하는 하나님인 것과, 내가 이런 일 하기를 좋아한다는 것을, 깨달아 알 만한 지혜를 가지게 되었음을, 자랑하여라. 나 주의 말이다."
  5. "나 주의 말이다. 그 날이 이르면, 몸에만 할례를 받은 사람들에게, 내가 모두 벌을 내리겠다.
  1. Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.
  1. 이집트와 유다와 에돔과 암몬 자손과 모압과, 관자놀이의 머리카락을 짧게 깎은, 광야에 사는 모든 사람에게도 내가 벌을 내리겠다. 이 모든 민족은, 이스라엘 백성 전체와 마찬가지로, 마음에 할례를 받지 않은 자들이기 때문이다."
 
  참 하나님과 거짓 우상(10:1-10:25)    
 
  1. Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
  2. Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
  3. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
  4. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
  5. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
  1. 이스라엘 백성아, 주님께서 너희에게 하시는 말씀을 들어라.
  2. "나 주가 말한다. 너희는 이방 사람의 풍습을 배우지 말아라. 이방 사람이 하늘의 온갖 징조를 보고 두려워하더라도, 너희는 그런 것들을 두려워하지 말아라.
  3. 이방 사람이 우상을 숭배하는 풍속은 허황된 것이다. 그들의 우상은 숲 속에서 베어 온 나무요, 조각가가 연장으로 다듬어서 만든 공예품이다.
  4. 그들은 은과 금으로 그것을 아름답게 꾸미고, 망치로 못을 박아 고정시켜서, 쓰러지지 않게 하였다.
  5. 그것들은 논에 세운 허수아비와 같아서, 말을 하지 못한다. 걸어 다닐 수도 없으니, 늘 누가 메고 다녀야 한다. 그것들은 사람에게 재앙을 내릴 수도 없고, 복도 내릴 수가 없으니, 너희는 그것들을 두려워하지 말아라."
  1. Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.
  2. Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.
  3. But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.
  4. Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all the work of cunning men.
  5. But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.
  1. 주님, 주님과 같으신 분은 아무도 없습니다. 주님은 위대하시며, 주님의 이름은 크시고, 권능을 지니셨습니다.
  2. 세계 만민의 임금님, 누가 주님을 두려워하지 않을 수가 있겠습니까? 주님은 공경받아 마땅한 분이십니다. 세계 만민의 모든 지혜 있는 자들 가운데에도, 모든 나라의 왕들 가운데에도, 주님과 같으신 분은 아무도 없기 때문입니다.
  3. 그들은 모두가 한결같이 어리석고 미련합니다. 나무로 만든 우상에게서 배운다고 한들, 그들이 무엇을 배우겠습니까?
  4. 그 우상에게 얇게 펴서 입힌 그 은은 스페인에서 들여온 것이며, 그 금도 우바스에서 들여온 것입니다. 우상들은 조각가가 새긴 것, 은장이가 만든 공예품입니다. 그것에다가 청색 옷과 자주색 옷을 걸쳐 놓은 것이니, 모두가 솜씨 좋은 사람들이 만들어 놓은 것입니다.
  5. 오직 주님만이 참되신 하나님이시요, 주님만이 살아 계시는 하나님이시며, 영원한 임금이십니다. 주님이 진노하시면, 땅이 지진을 일으키고, 그 진노는 세계 만민이 감당할 수가 없습니다.
  1. Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.
  2. He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.
  3. When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.
  4. Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
  5. They are vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
  1. 너희는 우상들에 대하여 이렇게 선언하여라. 하늘과 땅을 만들지 않은 신들은 이 땅에서 사라지고, 저 하늘 아래에서도 없어질 것이라고 선언하여라.
  2. 권능으로 땅을 만드시고, 지혜로 땅덩어리를 고정시키시고, 명철로 하늘을 펼치신 분은 주님이시다.
  3. 주님께서 호령을 하시면, 하늘에서 물이 출렁이고, 땅 끝에서 먹구름이 올라온다. 주님은 번개를 일으켜 비를 내리시며, 바람 창고에서 바람을 내보내신다.
  4. 사람은 누구나 어리석고 지식이 모자란다. 은장이는 자기들이 만든 신상 때문에 모두 수치를 당한다. 그들이 금속을 부어서 만든 신상들은 속임수요, 그것들 속에는 생명이 없기 때문이다.
  5. 그것들은 허황된 것이요, 조롱거리에 지나지 않아서, 벌을 받을 때에는 모두 멸망할 수밖에 없다.
  1. The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts is his name.
  2. Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress.
  3. For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so.
  4. Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous; but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.
  5. My tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
  1. 그러나 야곱의 유산이신 주님은, 그런 것들과는 전혀 다르시다. 그분은 만물을 지으신 분이시요, 이스라엘을 당신의 소유인 지파로 삼으신 분이시다. 그분의 이름은 '만군의 주'이시다.
  2. 포위된 성읍에 사는 자들아, 이제 이 땅을 떠날 터이니 짐을 꾸려라.
  3. 주님께서 말씀하시기를 "내가 이번에는 이 땅에 사는 백성을 먼 곳으로 내던지고, 그들이 자신의 죄를 깨달아 알도록, 내가 직접 그들에게 고통을 주겠다" 하셨기 때문이다.
  4. "아! 우리가 이렇게 심하게 다쳤으니, 우리의 상처가 나을 것 같지 않구나. 이런 고통쯤은 참을 수 있다고 생각하였는데!
  5. 우리의 장막이 부서졌다. 장막을 잡고 있던 줄도 모두 끊어졌다. 우리의 자녀들도 모두 떠나가고, 아무도 남아 있지 않아서, 우리의 장막을 다시 칠 사람도 없고, 휘장을 달 사람도 없다."
  1. For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.
  2. Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.
  3. O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
  4. O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.
  5. Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.
  1. 백성의 목자들이 미련하여, 주님께서 인도해 주시기를 간구하지 않더니, 일이 이렇듯 뒤틀려서, 우리 백성이 모두 흩어지게 되었구나!
  2. "들려 오는 저 소식! 보아라, 이미 이르렀다. 북녘 땅에서 올라오는 요란한 소리다. 유다의 성읍들을 무너뜨려서, 여우 떼의 소굴로 만들어 놓으려고 진군해 오는 소리다."
  3. "주님, 사람이 자기 운명의 주인이 아니라는 것을, 제가 이제 깨달았습니다. 아무도 자기 생명을 조종하지 못한다는 것도, 제가 이제 알았습니다.
  4. 주님, 형벌로 주님의 백성을 채찍질하여 주시되, 주님의 진노대로 하지 마시고, 너그럽게 다스려 주십시오. 우리가 죽을까 두렵습니다.
  5. 주님의 진노는 주님을 알지 못하는 이방 백성에게 쏟으십시오. 주님의 이름을 부르지 않는 사람들에게 쏟으십시오. 그들이 야곱 자손을 삼켜 버렸습니다. 삼켜서 아주 없애고, 그 거처까지도 황무지로 만들었기 때문입니다."
