- 거짓말을 하며 미련하게 사는 사람보다는, 가난해도 흠 없이 사는 사람이 낫다.
- 지식이 없는 열심은 좋은 것이라 할 수 없고, 너무 서둘러도 발을 헛디딘다.
- 사람은 미련해서 스스로 길을 잘못 들고도, 마음 속으로 주님을 원망한다.
- 재물은 친구를 많이 모으나, 궁핍하면 친구도 떠난다.
- 거짓 증인은 벌을 피할 수 없고, 거짓말을 하는 사람도 벌을 피할 길이 없다.

- Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
- All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.

- 너그럽게 주는 사람에게는 은혜 입기를 원하는 사람이 많고, 선물을 잘 주는 사람에게는 모두가 친구이다.
- 가난하면 친척도 그를 싫어하는데, 하물며 친구가 그를 멀리하지 않겠느냐? 뒤따라가며 말을 붙이려 하여도, 아무런 소용이 없다.
