- 너의 친구나 너의 아버지의 친구를 저버리지 말아라. 네가 어렵다고 친척의 집을 찾아 다니지 말아라. 가까운 이웃이 먼 친척보다 낫다.
- 내 아이들아, 지혜를 깨우치고, 나의 마음을 기쁘게 하여라. 그러면 나를 비방하는 사람에게, 내가 대답할 수 있겠다.
- 슬기로운 사람은 재앙을 보면 숨어 피하지만, 어수룩한 사람은 고집을 부리고 나아가다가 화를 입는다.
- 남의 보증을 선 사람은 자기의 옷을 잡혀야 하고, 모르는 사람의 보증을 선 사람은 자기의 몸을 잡혀야 한다.
- 이른 아침에 큰소리로 이웃에게 축복의 인사를 하면, 그것을 오히려 저주로 여길 것이다.
