- There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
- There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
- There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

- 주인에게 그 종을 비방하는 말을 하지 말아라. 그 종이 너를 저주하고 너에게 죄가 돌아갈까 두렵다.
- 아버지를 저주하며 어머니를 축복하지 않는 무리가 있다.
- 더러운 것을 씻지도 않고 깨끗한 체하는 무리가 있다.
- 눈이 심히 높아서, 눈꺼풀을 치켜 올리고 남을 깔보는 무리가 있다.
- 이빨이 긴 칼과 같고 턱이 큰 칼과 같아서, 가난한 사람을 하나도 땅에 남기지 않고 삼키며 궁핍한 사람을 삼켜 씨를 말리는 무리도 있다.

- The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:
- The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.

- 거머리에게는 '달라, 달라' 하며 보채는 딸이 둘이 있다. 전혀 배부른 줄 모르는 것이 셋, 만족할 줄 모르는 것 넷이 있으니,
- 곧 스올과 아기 못 낳는 태와 물로 갈증을 없앨 수 없는 땅과 만족하다고 말할 줄 모르는 불이다.
