- Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
- And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
- And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
- And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
- And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.

- さて 月が 滿ちて， エリサベツ は 男の 子を 産んだ．
- 近所の 人¿や 親族は， 主が エリサベツ に 大きなあわれみをおかけになったと 聞いて， 彼女とともに 喜んだ．
- さて 八日目に， 人¿は 幼子に 割禮するためにやって 來て， 幼子を 父の 名にちなんで ザカリヤ と 名づけようとしたが，
- 母は 答えて， 「いいえ， そうではなくて， ヨハネ という 名にしなければなりません． 」と 言った．
- 彼らは 彼女に， 「あなたの 親族にはそのような 名の 人はひとりもいません． 」と 言った．

- And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
- And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.
- And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.
- And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.
- And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.

- そして， 身振りで 父親に 合圖して， 幼子に 何という 名をつけるつもりかと 尋ねた．
- すると， 彼は 書き 板を 持って 來させて， 「彼の 名は ヨハネ ． 」と 書いたので， 人¿はみな 驚いた．
- すると， たちどころに， 彼の 口が 開け， 舌は 解け， ものが 言えるようになって 神をほめたたえた．
- そして， 近所の 人¿はみな 恐れた． さらにこれらのことの 一部始終が， ユダヤ の 山地全體にも 語り 傳えられて 行った．
- 聞いた 人¿はみな， それを 心にとどめて， 「いったいこの 子は 何になるのでしょう． 」と 言った． 主の 御手が 彼とともにあったからである．

- And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
- Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
- And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
- As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
- That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

- さて 父 ザカリヤ は， 聖靈に 滿たされて， 預言して 言った．
- 「ほめたたえよ． イスラエル の 神である 主を． 主はその 民を 顧みて， ·いをなし，
- 救いの 角を， われらのために， しもべ ダビデ の 家に 立てられた．
- 古くから， その 聖なる 預言者たちの 口を 通して， 主が 話してくださったとおりに．
- この 救いはわれらの 敵からの， すべてわれらを 憎む 者の 手からの 救いである．

- To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
- The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
- That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
- In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
- And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

- 主はわれらの 父祖たちにあわれみを 施し， その 聖なる 契約を，
- われらの 父 アブラハム に 誓われた 誓いを 覺えて，
- われらを 敵の 手から 救い 出し，
- われらの 生涯のすべての 日に， きよく， 正しく， 恐れなく， 主の 御前に 仕えることを 許される．
- 幼子よ． あなたもまた， いと 高き 方の 預言者と 呼ばれよう． 主の 御前に 先立って 行き， その 道を 備え，

- To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
- Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
- To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
- And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

- 神の 民に， 罪の 赦しによる 救いの 知識を 與えるためである．
- これはわれらの 神の 深いあわれみによる． そのあわれみにより， 日の 出がいと 高き 所からわれらを 訪れ，
- 暗黑と 死の 陰にすわる 者たちを 照らし， われらの 足を 平和の 道に 導く． 」
- さて， 幼子は 成長し， その 靈は 强くなり， イスラエル の 民の 前に 公に 出現する 日まで 荒野にいた．
