- Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
- While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
- In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
- And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;
- Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

- あなたの 若い 日に， あなたの 創造者を 覺えよ． わざわいの 日が 來ないうちに， また「何の 喜びもない． 」と 言う 年月が 近づく 前に．
- 太陽と 光， 月と 星が 暗くなり， 雨の 後にまた 雨雲がおおう 前に．
- その 日には， 家を 守る 者は 震え， 力のある 男たちは 身をかがめ， 粉ひき 女たちは 少なくなって 仕事をやめ， 窓からながめている 女の 目は 暗くなる．
- 通りのとびらは 閉ざされ， 臼をひく 音も 低くなり， 人は 鳥の 聲に 起き 上がり， 歌を 歌う 娘たちはみなうなだれる．
- 彼らはまた 高い 所を 恐れ， 道でおびえる． ア ― モンド の 花は ¿き， いなごはのろのろ 步き， ふうちょうぼくは 花を 開く． だが， 人は 永遠の 家へと 步いて 行き， 嘆く 者たちが 通りを 步き 回る．

- Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
- Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
- Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.
- And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.
- The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

- こうしてついに， 銀のひもは 切れ， 金の 器は 打ち ¿かれ， 水がめは 泉のかたわらで ¿かれ， 滑車が 井戶のそばでこわされる．
- ちりはもとあった 地に 歸り， 靈はこれを 下さった 神に 歸る．
- 空の 空． 傳道者は 言う． すべては 空．
- 傳道者は 知惠ある 者であったが， そのうえ， 知識を 民に 敎えた． 彼は 思索し， 探求し， 多くの ·言をまとめた．
- 傳道者は 適切なことばを 見いだそうとし， 眞理のことばを 正しく 書き 殘した．

- The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
- And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
- Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
- For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

- 知惠ある 者のことばは 突き 棒のようなもの， 編集されたものはよく 打ちつけられた 釘のようなものである． これらはひとりの 羊飼いによって 與えられた．
- わが 子よ． これ 以外のことにも 注意せよ． 多くの 本を 作ることには， 限りがない． 多くのものに 熱中すると， からだが 疲れる．
- 結局のところ， もうすべてが 聞かされていることだ． 神を 恐れよ． 神の 命令を 守れ． これが 人間にとってすべてである．
- 神は， 善であれ 惡であれ， すべての 隱れたことについて， すべてのわざをさばかれるからだ．
