요나

본서는 요나의 니느웨 구원 사건을 통하여 이방인에게 미치는 하나님의 구원의 손길을 명확하게 보여 주고 있으며, 사흘 간 물고기의 뱃속에 갇힌 요나 사건을 통해서 예수님의 부활 사건을 예표하고 있다.

요나는 니느웨 선교 소명을 받았으나 불순종하여 하나님을 피해 달아난다. 그러나 하나님의 섭리로 물고기에게 삼키우게 된다. 이에 요나는 회개하고 소명을 감당한다. 니느웨는 요나의 외침을 듣고 회개하여 심판을 면하게 된다. 그러자 이를 본 요나는 하나님께 불평하지만, 하나님께서는 그에게 박 넝쿨의 교훈을 통해 하나님은 만민의 하나님이심을 깨우쳐 주신다.

	요나 1:1-4:11 요나는 하나님의 말씀을 전하도록 니느웨로 보내심을 받았으나 순종치 않고 배를 타고 도망하였다. 그러나 하나님께서 풍랑을 보내셔서 파선하게 되자, 그는 자신의 죄를 고백하고 바다에 던져졌다. 큰 물고기에게 삼켜져 그 뱃속에서 3일 간 회개하고 구원받은 요나는 니느웨(TM)에서 회개를 외쳤다. 그러나 그들이 회개하고 구원받자 하나님께 화를 내며 불평하였다. 이에 하나님께서는 박 넝쿨을 통해 그를 교훈하셨다.

	요나 선지자(1:1-4:11)

Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.

アミタイの子ヨナに次のような主のことばがあった．

「立って，あの大きな町ニネベに行き，これに向かって叫べ．彼らの惡がわたしの前に上って來たからだ．」

しかしヨナは，主の御顔を避けてタルシシュヘのがれようとし，立って，ヨッパに下った．彼は，タルシシュ行きの船を見つけ，船賃を拂ってそれに乘り，主の御顔を避けて，みなといっしょにタルシシュへ行こうとした．

そのとき，主が大風を海に吹きつけたので，海に激しい暴風が起こり，船は難破しそうになった．

水夫たちは恐れ，彼らはそれぞれ，自分の神に向かって叫び，船を輕くしようと船の積荷を海に投げ捨てた．しかし，ヨナは船底に降りて行って橫になり，ぐっすり寢¿んでいた．

So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?

And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.

Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.

船長が近づいて來て彼に言った．「いったいどうしたことか．寢¿んだりして．起きて，あなたの神にお願いしなさい．あるいは，神が私たちに心を留めてくださって，私たちは滅びないですむかもしれない．」

みなは互いに言った．「さあ，くじを引いて，だれのせいで，このわざわいが私たちに降りかかったかを知ろう．」彼らがくじを引くと，そのくじはヨナに當たった．

そこで彼らはヨナに言った．「だれのせいで，このわざわいが私たちに降りかかったのか，告げてくれ．あなたの仕事は何か．あなたはどこから來たのか．あなたの國はどこか．いったいどこの民か．」

ヨナは彼らに言った．「私はヘブル人です．私は海と陸を造られた天の神，主を禮拜しています．」

それで人¿は非常に恐れて，彼に言った．「何でそんなことをしたのか．」人¿は，彼が主の御顔を避けてのがれようとしていることを知っていた．ヨナが先に，これを彼らに告げていたからである．

Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.

And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.

Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.

Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.

So they look up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.

彼らはヨナに言った．「海が靜まるために，私たちはあなたをどうしたらいいのか．」海がますます荒れてきたからである．

ヨナは彼らに言った．「私を捕えて，海に投げ ¿みなさい．そうすれば，海はあなたがたのために靜かになるでしょう．わかっています．この激しい暴風は，私のためにあなたがたを襲ったのです．」

その人たちは船を陸に戾そうとこいだがだめだった．海がますます，彼らに向かって荒れたからである．

そこで彼らは主に願って言った．「ああ，主よ．どうか，この男のいのちのために，私たちを滅ぼさないでください．罪のない者の血を私たちに報いないでください．主よ．あなたはみこころにかなったことをなさるからです．」

こうして，彼らはヨナをかかえて海に投げ ¿んだ．すると，海は激しい怒りをやめて靜かになった．

Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.

Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

人¿は非常に主を恐れ，主にいけにえをささげ，誓願を立てた．

主は大きな魚を備えて，ヨナをのみこませた．ヨナは三日三晩，魚の腹の中にいた．

Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

ヨナは魚の腹の中から，彼の神，主に祈って，

言った．「私が苦しみの中から主にお願いすると，主は答えてくださいました．私がよみの腹の中から叫ぶと，あなたは私の聲を聞いてくださいました．

あなたは私を海の眞中の深みに投げ ¿まれました．潮の流れが私を圍み，あなたの波と大波がみな，私の上を越えて行きました．

私は言った．『私はあなたの目の前から追われました．しかし，もう一度，私はあなたの聖なる宮を仰ぎ見たいのです．』と．

水は，私ののどを絞めつけ，深淵は私を取り圍み，海草は私の頭にからみつきました．

I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

私は山¿の根元まで下り，地のかんぬきが，いつまでも私の上にありました．しかし，私の神，主よ．あなたは私のいのちを穴から引き上げてくださいました．

私のたましいが私のうちに衰え果てたとき，私は主を思い出しました．私の祈りはあなたに，あなたの聖なる宮に屆きました．

むなしい偶像に心を留める者は，自分への惠みを捨てます．

しかし，私は，感謝の聲をあげて，あなたにいけにえをささげ，私の誓いを果たしましょう．救いは主のものです．」

主は，魚に命じ，ヨナを陸地に吐き出させた．

And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.

And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

再びヨナに次のような主のことばがあった．

「立って，あの大きな町ニネベに行き，わたしがあなたに告げることばを傳えよ．」

ヨナは，主のことばのとおりに，立ってニネベに行った．ニネベは，行き巡るのに三日かかるほどの非常に大きな町であった．

ヨナは初め，その町にはいると，一日中步き回って叫び，「もう四十日すると，ニネベは滅ぼされる．」と言った．

そこで，ニネベの人¿は神を信じ，斷食を呼びかけ，身分の高い者から低い者まで荒布を着た．

For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:

But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

このことがニネベの王の耳にはいると，彼は王座から立って，王服を脫ぎ，荒布をまとい，灰の中にすわった．

王と大臣たちの命令によって，次のような布告がニネベに出された．「人も， ¿も，牛も，羊もみな，何も味わってはならない．草をはんだり，水を飮んだりしてはならない．

人も，家畜も，荒布を身にまとい，ひたすら神にお願いし，おのおの惡の道と，暴虐な行ないとを悔い改めよ．

もしかすると，神が思い直してあわれみ，その燃える怒りをおさめ，私たちは滅びないですむかもしれない．」

神は，彼らが惡の道から立ち返るために努力していることをご覽になった．それで，神は彼らに下すと言っておられたわざわいを思い直し，そうされなかった．

But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.

And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.

Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?

So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.

ところが，このことはヨナを非常に不愉快にさせた．ヨナは怒って，

主に祈って言った．「ああ，主よ．私がまだ國にいたときに，このことを申し上げたではありませんか．それで，私は初めタルシシュへのがれようとしたのです．私は，あなたが情け深くあわれみ深い神であり，怒るのにおそく，惠み豊かであり，わざわいを思い直されることを知っていたからです．

主よ．今，どうぞ，私のいのちを取ってください．私は生きているより死んだほうがましですから．」

主は仰せられた．「あなたは當然のことのように怒るのか．」

ヨナは町から出て，町の東の方にすわり，そこに自分で假小屋を作り，町の中で何が起こるかを見きわめようと，その陰の下にすわっていた．

And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.

But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.

And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.

Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:

神である主は一本のとうごまを備え，それをヨナの上をおおうように生えさせ，彼の頭の上の陰として，ヨナの不きげんを直そうとされた．ヨナはこのとうごまを非常に喜んだ．

しかし，神は，翌日の夜明けに，一匹の蟲を備えられた．蟲がそのとうごまをかんだので，とうごまは枯れた．

太陽が上ったとき，神は燒けつくような東風を備えられた．太陽がヨナの頭に照りつけたので，彼は衰え果て，自分の死を願って言った．「私は生きているより死んだほうがましだ．」

すると，神はヨナに仰せられた．「このとうごまのために，あなたは當然のことのように怒るのか．」ヨナは言った．「私が死ぬほど怒るのは當然のことです．」

主は仰せられた．「あなたは，自分で骨折らず，育てもせず，一夜で生え，一夜で滅びたこのとうごまを惜しんでいる．

And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more then sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

まして，わたしは，この大きな町ニネベを惜しまないでいられようか．そこには，右も左もわきまえない十二万以上の人間と，數多くの家畜とがいるではないか．」
