- Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
- (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
- Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
- When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
- Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

- さて， ひとりの 病人がいた． ラザロ といい， マリヤ とその 姉妹 マルタ の 村 ベタニヤ の 人であった．
- この マリヤ は 主に 香油をぬり， 自分の 髮の 毛で， 主の 足をふいた 女であって， 病氣であったのは， 彼女の 兄弟 ラザロ であった．
- 姉妹たちは 人を イエス のもとにつかわして， 「主よ， ただ 今， あなたが 愛しておられる 者が 病氣をしています 」と 言わせた．
- イエス はそれを 聞いて 言われた， 「この 病氣は 死ぬほどのものではない． それは 神の 榮光のため， また， 神の 子がそれによって 榮光を 受けるためのものである 」．
- イエス は， マルタ とその 姉妹と ラザロ とを 愛しておられた．

- When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
- Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
- His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
- Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
- But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

- ラザロ が 病氣であることを 聞いてから， なおふつか， そのおられた 所に 滯在された．
- それから 弟子たちに， 「もう 一度 ユダヤ に 行こう 」と 言われた．
- 弟子たちは 言った， 「先生， ユダヤ 人らが， さきほどもあなたを 石で 殺そうとしていましたのに， またそこに 行かれるのですか 」．
- イエス は 答えられた， 「一日には 十二時間あるではないか． ¿間あるけば， 人はつまずくことはない． この 世の 光を 見ているからである．
- しかし， 夜あるけば， つまずく． その 人のうちに， 光がないからである 」．

- These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
- Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
- Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
- Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
- And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

- そう 言われたが， それからまた， 彼らに 言われた， 「わたしたちの 友 ラザロ が 眠っている． わたしは 彼を 起しに 行く 」．
- すると 弟子たちは 言った， 「主よ， 眠っているのでしたら， 助かるでしょう 」．
- イエス は ラザロ が 死んだことを 言われたのであるが， 弟子たちは， 眠って 休んでいることをさして 言われたのだと 思った．
- すると イエス は， あからさまに 彼らに 言われた， 「ラザロ は 死んだのだ．
- そして， わたしがそこにいあわせなかったことを， あなたがたのために 喜ぶ． それは， あなたがたが 信じるようになるためである． では， 彼のところに 行こう 」．

- Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
- Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
- Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
- And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
- Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.

- すると デドモ と 呼ばれている トマス が， 仲間の 弟子たちに 言った， 「わたしたちも 行って， 先生と 一緖に 死のうではないか 」．
- さて， イエス が 行ってごらんになると， ラザロ はすでに 四日間も 墓の 中に 置かれていた．
- ベタニヤ は エルサレム に 近く， 二十五丁ばかり 離れたところにあった．
- 大ぜいの ユダヤ 人が， その 兄弟のことで， マルタ と マリヤ とを 慰めようとしてきていた．
- マルタ は イエス がこられたと 聞いて， 出迎えに 行ったが， マリヤ は 家ですわっていた．

- Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
- But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
- Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
- Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
- Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

- マルタ は イエス に 言った， 「主よ， もしあなたがここにいて 下さったなら， わたしの 兄弟は 死ななかったでしょう．
- しかし， あなたがどんなことをお 願いになっても， 神はかなえて 下さることを， わたしは 今でも 存じています 」．
- イエス は マルタ に 言われた， 「あなたの 兄弟はよみがえるであろう 」．
- マルタ は 言った， 「終りの 日のよみがえりの 時よみがえることは， 存じています 」．
- イエス は 彼女に 言われた， 「わたしはよみがえりであり， 命である． わたしを 信じる 者は， たとい 死んでも 生きる．

- And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
- She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
- And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
- As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
- Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.

- また， 生きていて， わたしを 信じる 者は， いつまでも 死なない． あなたはこれを 信じるか 」．
- マルタ は イエス に 言った， 「主よ， 信じます． あなたがこの 世にきたるべき キリスト ， 神の 御子であると 信じております 」．
- マルタ はこう 言ってから， 歸って 姉妹の マリヤ を 呼び， 「先生がおいでになって， あなたを 呼んでおられます 」と 小聲で 言った．
- これを 聞いた マリヤ はすぐに 立ち 上がって， イエス のもとに 行った．
- イエス はまだ 村に， はいってこられず， マルタ がお 迎えしたその 場所におられた．

- The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.
- Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
- When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled.
- And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
- Jesus wept.

- マリヤ と 一緖に 家にいて 彼女を 慰めていた ユダヤ 人たちは， マリヤ が 急いで 立ち 上がって 出て 行くのを 見て， 彼女は 墓に 泣きに 行くのであろうと 思い， そのあとからついて 行った．
- マリヤ は， イエス のおられる 所に 行ってお 目にかかり， その 足もとにひれ 伏して 言った， 「主よ， もしあなたがここにいて 下さったなら， わたしの 兄弟は 死ななかったでしょう 」．
- イエス は， 彼女が 泣き， また， 彼女と 一緖にきた ユダヤ 人たちも 泣いているのをごらんになり， 激しく 感動し， また 心を ¿がせ， そして 言われた，
- 「彼をどこに 置いたのか 」． 彼らは イエス に 言った， 「主よ， きて， ごらん 下さい 」．
- イエス は 淚を 流された．

- Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
- And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
- Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
- Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
- Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

- すると ユダヤ 人たちは 言った， 「ああ， なんと 彼を 愛しておられたことか 」．
- しかし， 彼らのある 人たちは 言った， 「あの 盲人の 目をあけたこの 人でも， ラザロ を 死なせないようには， できなかったのか 」．
- イエス はまた 激しく 感動して， 墓にはいられた． それは 洞穴であって， そこに 石がはめてあった．
- イエス は 言われた， 「石を 取りのけなさい 」． 死んだ ラザロ の 姉妹 マルタ が 言った， 「主よ， もう 臭くなっております． 四日もたっていますから 」．
- イエス は 彼女に 言われた， 「もし 信じるなら 神の 榮光を 見るであろうと， あなたに 言ったではないか 」．

- Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
- And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
- And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
- And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

- 人¿は 石を 取りのけた． すると， イエス は 目を 天にむけて 言われた， 「父よ， わたしの 願いをお 聞き 下さったことを 感謝します．
- あなたがいつでもわたしの 願いを 聞きいれて 下さることを， よく 知っています． しかし， こう 申しますのは， そばに 立っている 人¿に， あなたがわたしをつかわされたことを， 信じさせるためであります 」．
- こう 言いながら， 大聲で「ラザロ よ， 出てきなさい 」と 呼ばわれた．
- すると， 死人は 手足を 布でまかれ， 顔も 顔おおいで 包まれたまま， 出てきた． イエス は 人¿に 言われた， 「彼をほどいてやって， 歸らせなさい 」．
