- Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.
- For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.
- And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied.
- Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice.
- And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God,

- これらの 事がなされた 後， つかさたちは， わたしのもとに 來て 言った， 「イスラエル の 民， 祭司および レビ びとは 諸國の 民と 離れないで， カナン びと， ヘテ びと， ペリジ びと， エブス びと， アンモン びと， モアブ びと， エジプト びと， アモリ びとなどの 憎むべき 事を 行いました．
- すなわち， 彼らの 娘たちをみずからめとり， またそのむすこたちにめとったので， 聖なる 種が 諸國の 民とまじりました． そしてつかさたる 者， 長たる 者が 先だって， このとがを 犯しました 」．
- わたしはこの 事を 聞いた 時， 着物と 上着とを 裂き， 髮の 毛とひげを 拔き， 驚きあきれてすわった．
- イスラエル の 神の 言葉におののく 者は 皆， 捕囚から 歸って 來た 人¿のとがのゆえに， わたしのもとに 集まったが， わたしは 夕の 供え 物の 時まで， 驚きあきれてすわった．
- 夕の 供え 物の 時になって， わたしは 斷食から 立ちあがり， 着物と 上着を 裂いたまま， ひざをかがめて， わが 神， 主にむかって 手をさし 伸べて，

- And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.
- Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.
- And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.
- For we were bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.
- And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,

- 言った， ／「わが 神よ， わたしはあなたにむかって 顔を 上げるのを 恥じて， 赤面します． われわれの 不義は 積って 頭よりも 高くなり， われわれのとがは 重なって 天に 達したからです．
- われわれの 先祖の 日から 今日まで， われわれは 大いなるとがを 負い， われわれの 不義によって， われわれとわれわれの 王たち， および 祭司たちは 國¿の 王たちの 手にわたされ， つるぎにかけられ， 捕え 行かれ， かすめられ， 恥をこうむりました． 今日のとおりです．
- ところがいま， われわれの 神， 主は， しばし 惠みを 施して， のがれ 殘るべき 者をわれわれのうちにおき， その 聖所のうちに 確かなよりどころを 與え， こうしてわれわれの 神はわれわれの 目を 明らかにし， われわれをその 奴隷のうちにあって， 少しく 生き 返らせられました．
- われわれは 奴隷の 身でありますが， その 奴隷たる 時にも 神はわれわれを 見捨てられず， かえって ペルシャ 王たちの 目の 前でいつくしみを 施して， われわれを 生き 返らせ， われわれの 神の 宮を 建てさせ， その 破壞をつくろわせ， ユダ と エルサレム でわれわれに 保護を 與えられました．
- われわれの 神よ， この 後， 何を 言うことができましょう． われわれは， あなたの 戒めを 捨てたからです．

- Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.
- Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.
- And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;
- Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping?
- O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.

- あなたはかつて， あなたのしもべである 預言者たちによって 命じて 仰せられました， 『おまえたちが 行って 獲ようとする 地は， 各地の 民の 汚れにより， その 憎むべきわざによって 汚れた 地で， この 果から， かの 果まで， その 汚れに 滿ちている．
- それでおまえたちの 娘を， 彼らのむすこに 與えてはならない． 彼らの 娘を， おまえたちのむすこにめとってはならない． また 永久に 彼らの 平安をも 福祉をも 求めてはならない． そうすればおまえたちは 强くなり， その 地の 良き 物を 食べ， これを 永久におまえたちの 子孫に 傳えて 嗣業とさせることができる 』と．
- われわれの 惡い 行いにより， 大いなるとがによって， これらすべてのことが， すでにわれわれに 臨みましたが， われわれの 神なるあなたは， われわれの 不義よりも 輕い 罰をくだして， このように 殘りの 者を 與えてくださったのを 見ながら，
- われわれは 再びあなたの 命令を 破って， これらの 憎むべきわざを 行う 民と 緣を 結んでよいでしょうか． あなたはわれわれを 怒って， ついに 滅ぼし 盡し， 殘る 者も， のがれる 者もないようにされるのではないでしょうか．
- ああ， イスラエル の 神， 主よ， あなたは 正しくいらせられます． われわれはのがれて 殘ること 今日のとおりです． われわれは， とがをもってあなたの 前にあります． それゆえだれもあなたの 前に 立つことはできません 」．
