- Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
- While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
- In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
- And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;
- Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

- あなたの 若い 日に， あなたの 造り 主を 覺えよ． 惡しき 日がきたり， 年が 寄って， 「わたしにはなんの 樂しみもない 」と 言うようにならない 前に，
- また 日や 光や， 月や 星の 暗くならない 前に， 雨の 後にまた 雲が 歸らないうちに， そのようにせよ．
- その 日になると， 家を 守る 者は 震え， 力ある 人はかがみ， ひきこなす 女は 少ないために 休み， 窓からのぞく 者の 目はかすみ，
- 町の 門は 閉ざされる． その 時ひきこなす 音は 低くなり， 人は 鳥の 聲によって 起きあがり， 歌の 娘たちは 皆， 低くされる．
- 彼らはまた 高いものを 恐れる． 恐ろしいものが 道にあり， あめんどうは 花¿き， いなごはその 身をひきずり 步き， その 欲望は 衰え， 人が 永遠の 家に 行こうとするので， 泣く 人が， ちまたを 步きまわる．

- Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
- Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
- Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.
- And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.
- The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

- その 後， 銀のひもは 切れ， 金の 皿は ¿け， 水がめは 泉のかたわらで 破れ， 車は 井戶のかたわらで ¿ける．
- ちりは， もとのように 土に 歸り， 靈はこれを 授けた 神に 歸る．
- 傳道者は 言う， 「空の 空， いっさいは 空である 」と．
- さらに 傳道者は 知惠があるゆえに， 知識を 民に 敎えた． 彼はよく 考え， 尋ねきわめ， あまたの ·言をまとめた．
- 傳道者は 麗しい 言葉を 得ようとつとめた． また 彼は 眞實の 言葉を 正しく 書きしるした．

- The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
- And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
- Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
- For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

- 知者の 言葉は 突き 棒のようであり， またよく 打った 釘のようなものであって， ひとりの 牧者から 出た 言葉が 集められたものである．
- わが 子よ， これら 以外の 事にも 心を 用いよ． 多くの 書を 作れば 際限がない． 多く 學べばからだが 疲れる．
- 事の 歸する 所は， すべて 言われた． すなわち， 神を 恐れ， その 命令を 守れ． これはすべての 人の 本分である．
- 神はすべてのわざ， ならびにすべての 隱れた 事を 善惡ともにさばかれるからである．
