- Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
- For by it the elders obtained a good report.
- Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
- By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

- さて， 信仰とは， 望んでいる 事がらを 確信し， まだ 見ていない 事實を 確認することである．
- 昔の 人たちは， この 信仰のゆえに 賞贊された．
- 信仰によって， わたしたちは， この 世界が 神の 言葉で 造られたのであり， したがって， 見えるものは 現れているものから 出てきたのでないことを， 悟るのである．
- 信仰によって， アベル は カイン よりもまさったいけにえを 神にささげ， 信仰によって 義なる 者と 認められた． 神が， 彼の 供え 物をよしとされたからである． 彼は 死んだが， 信仰によって 今もなお 語っている．
- 信仰によって， エノク は 死を 見ないように 天に 移された． 神がお 移しになったので， 彼は 見えなくなった． 彼が 移される 前に， 神に 喜ばれた 者と， あかしされていたからである．

- But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

- 信仰によって， ノア はまだ 見ていない 事がらについて 御告げを 受け， 恐れかしこみつつ， その 家族を 救うために 箱舟を 造り， その 信仰によって 世の 罪をさばき， そして， 信仰による 義を 受け 繼ぐ 者となった．
- 信仰によって， アブラハム は， 受け 繼ぐべき 地に 出て 行けとの 召しをこうむった 時， それに 從い， 行く 先を 知らないで 出て 行った．
- 信仰によって， 他國にいるようにして 約束の 地に 宿り， 同じ 約束を 繼ぐ イサク ， ヤコブ と 共に， 幕屋に 住んだ．
- 彼は， ゆるがぬ 土台の 上に 建てられた 都を， 待ち 望んでいたのである． その 都をもくろみ， また 建てたのは， 神である．

- Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
- Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

- これらの 人はみな， 信仰をいだいて 死んだ． まだ 約束のものは 受けていなかったが， はるかにそれを 望み 見て 喜び， そして， 地上では 旅人であり 寄留者であることを， 自ら 言いあらわした．
- そう 言いあらわすことによって， 彼らがふるさとを 求めていることを 示している．
- もしその 出てきた 所のことを 考えていたなら， 歸る 機會はあったであろう．

- But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

- しかし 實際， 彼らが 望んでいたのは， もっと 良い， 天にあるふるさとであった． だから 神は， 彼らの 神と 呼ばれても， それを 恥とはされなかった． 事實， 神は 彼らのために， 都を 用意されていたのである．
