요나

본서는 요나의 니느웨 구원 사건을 통하여 이방인에게 미치는 하나님의 구원의 손길을 명확하게 보여 주고 있으며, 사흘 간 물고기의 뱃속에 갇힌 요나 사건을 통해서 예수님의 부활 사건을 예표하고 있다.

요나는 니느웨 선교 소명을 받았으나 불순종하여 하나님을 피해 달아난다. 그러나 하나님의 섭리로 물고기에게 삼키우게 된다. 이에 요나는 회개하고 소명을 감당한다. 니느웨는 요나의 외침을 듣고 회개하여 심판을 면하게 된다. 그러자 이를 본 요나는 하나님께 불평하지만, 하나님께서는 그에게 박 넝쿨의 교훈을 통해 하나님은 만민의 하나님이심을 깨우쳐 주신다.

	요나 1:1-4:11 요나는 하나님의 말씀을 전하도록 니느웨로 보내심을 받았으나 순종치 않고 배를 타고 도망하였다. 그러나 하나님께서 풍랑을 보내셔서 파선하게 되자, 그는 자신의 죄를 고백하고 바다에 던져졌다. 큰 물고기에게 삼켜져 그 뱃속에서 3일 간 회개하고 구원받은 요나는 니느웨(TM)에서 회개를 외쳤다. 그러나 그들이 회개하고 구원받자 하나님께 화를 내며 불평하였다. 이에 하나님께서는 박 넝쿨을 통해 그를 교훈하셨다.

	요나 선지자(1:1-4:11)

Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.

主の言葉がアミタイの子ヨナに臨んだ．

「さあ，大いなる都ニネベに行ってこれに呼びかけよ．彼らの惡はわたしの前に屆いている．」

しかしヨナは主から逃れようとして出發し，タルシシュに向かった．ヤッファに下ると，折よくタルシシュ行きの船が見つかったので，船賃を拂って乘り ¿み，人¿に紛れ ¿んで主から逃れようと，タルシシュに向かった．

主は大風を海に向かって放たれたので，海は大荒れとなり，船は今にも ¿けんばかりとなった．

船乘りたちは恐怖に陷り，それぞれ自分の神に助けを求めて叫びをあげ，積み荷を海に投げ捨て，船を少しでも輕くしようとした．しかし，ヨナは船底に降りて橫になり，ぐっすりと寢¿んでいた．

So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?

And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.

Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.

船長はヨナのところに來て言った．「寢ているとは何事か．さあ，起きてあなたの神を呼べ．神が氣づいて助けてくれるかもしれない．」

さて，人¿は互いに言った．「さあ，くじを引こう．誰のせいで，我¿にこの災難がふりかかったのか，はっきりさせよう．」そこで，くじを引くとヨナに當たった．

人¿は彼に詰め寄って，「さあ，話してくれ．この災難が我¿にふりかかったのは，誰のせいか．あなたは何の仕事で行くのか．どこから來たのか．國はどこで，どの民族の出身なのか」と言った．

ヨナは彼らに言った．「わたしはヘブライ人だ．海と陸とを創造された天の神，主を畏れる者だ．」

人¿は非常に恐れ，ヨナに言った．「なんという事をしたのだ．」人¿はヨナが，主の前から逃げて來たことを知った．彼が白狀したからである．

Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.

And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.

Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.

Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.

So they look up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.

彼らはヨナに言った．「あなたをどうしたら，海が靜まるのだろうか．」海は荒れる一方だった．

ヨナは彼らに言った．「わたしの手足を捕らえて海にほうり ¿むがよい．そうすれば，海は穩やかになる．わたしのせいで，この大嵐があなたたちを見舞ったことは，わたしが知っている．」

乘組員は船を漕いで陸に戾そうとしたが，できなかった．海がますます荒れて，襲いかかってきたからである．

ついに，彼らは主に向かって叫んだ．「ああ，主よ，この男の命のゆえに，滅ぼさないでください．無實の者を殺したといって責めないでください．主よ，すべてはあなたの御心のままなのですから．」

彼らがヨナの手足を捕らえて海へほうり ¿むと，荒れ狂っていた海は靜まった．

Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.

Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

人¿は大いに主を畏れ，いけにえをささげ，誓いを立てた．

Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

さて，主は巨大な魚に命じて，ヨナを呑み ¿ませられた．ヨナは三日三晩魚の腹の中にいた．

ヨナは魚の腹の中から自分の神，主に祈りをささげて，

言った．苦難の中で，わたしが叫ぶと／主は答えてくださった．陰府の底から，助けを求めると／わたしの聲を聞いてくださった．

あなたは，わたしを深い海に投げ ¿まれた．潮の流れがわたしを卷き ¿み／波また波がわたしの上を越えて行く．

わたしは思った／あなたの御前から追放されたのだと．生きて再び聖なる神殿を見ることがあろうかと．

I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

大水がわたしを襲って喉に達する．深淵に呑み ¿まれ，水草が頭に絡みつく．

わたしは山¿の基まで，地の底まで沈み／地はわたしの上に永久に扉を閉ざす．しかし，わが神，主よ／あなたは命を／滅びの穴から引き上げてくださった．

息絶えようとするとき／わたしは主の御名を唱えた．わたしの祈りがあなたに屆き／聖なる神殿に達した．

僞りの神¿に從う者たちが／忠節を捨て去ろうとも

わたしは感謝の聲をあげ／いけにえをささげて，誓ったことを果たそう．救いは，主にこそある．

主が命じられると，魚はヨナを陸地に吐き出した．

And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.

And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

主の言葉が再びヨナに臨んだ．

「さあ，大いなる都ニネベに行って，わたしがお前に語る言葉を告げよ．」

ヨナは主の命令どおり，直ちにニネベに行った．ニネベは非常に大きな都で，一回りするのに三日かかった．

ヨナはまず都に入り，一日分の距離を步きながら叫び，そして言った．「あと四十日すれば，ニネベの都は滅びる．」

すると，ニネベの人¿は神を信じ，斷食を呼びかけ，身分の高い者も低い者も身に粗布をまとった．

For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:

But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

このことがニネベの王に傳えられると，王は王座から立ち上がって王衣を脫ぎ捨て，粗布をまとって灰の上に座し，

王と大臣たちの名によって布告を出し，ニネベに斷食を命じた．「人も家畜も，牛，羊に至るまで，何一つ食物を口にしてはならない．食べることも，水を飮むことも禁ずる．

人も家畜も粗布をまとい，ひたすら神に祈願せよ．おのおの惡の道を離れ，その手から不法を捨てよ．

そうすれば神が思い直されて激しい怒りを靜め，我¿は滅びを免れるかもしれない．」

神は彼らの業，彼らが惡の道を離れたことを御覽になり，思い直され，宣告した災いをくだすのをやめられた．

But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.

And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.

Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?

So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.

ヨナにとって，このことは大いに不滿であり，彼は怒った．

彼は，主に訴えた．「ああ，主よ，わたしがまだ國にいましたとき，言ったとおりではありませんか．だから，わたしは先にタルシシュに向かって逃げたのです．わたしには，こうなることが分かっていました．あなたは，惠みと憐れみの神であり，忍耐深く，慈しみに富み，災いをくだそうとしても思い直される方です．

主よどうか今，わたしの命を取ってください．生きているよりも死ぬ方がましです．」

主は言われた．「お前は怒るが，それは正しいことか．」

そこで，ヨナは都を出て東の方に座り ¿んだ．そして，そこに小屋を建て，日射しを避けてその中に座り，都に何が起こるかを見屆けようとした．

And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.

But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.

And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.

Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:

すると，主なる神は彼の苦痛を救うため，とうごまの木に命じて芽を出させられた．とうごまの木は伸びてヨナよりも丈が高くなり，頭の上に陰をつくったので，ヨナの不滿は消え，このとうごまの木を大いに喜んだ．

ところが翌日の明け方，神は蟲に命じて木に登らせ，とうごまの木を食い荒らさせられたので木は枯れてしまった．

日が昇ると，神は今度は燒けつくような東風に吹きつけるよう命じられた．太陽もヨナの頭上に照りつけたので，ヨナはぐったりとなり，死ぬことを願って言った．「生きているよりも，死ぬ方がましです．」

神はヨナに言われた．「お前はとうごまの木のことで怒るが，それは正しいことか．」彼は言った．「もちろんです．怒りのあまり死にたいくらいです．」

すると，主はこう言われた．「お前は，自分で勞することも育てることもなく，一夜にして生じ，一夜にして滅びたこのとうごまの木さえ惜しんでいる．

And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more then sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

それならば，どうしてわたしが，この大いなる都ニネベを惜しまずにいられるだろうか．そこには，十二万人以上の右も左もわきまえぬ人間と，無數の家畜がいるのだから．」
