- Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.
- And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.
- For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.
- And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.
- Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

- 예루살렘에서 온 바리사이파 사람들과 율법학자 몇 사람이 예수께 모여왔다가
- 제자 몇 사람이 손을 씻지 않고 부정한 손으로 음식을 먹는 것을 보았다.
- 원래 바리사이파 사람들뿐만 아니라 모든 유다인들은 조상의 전통에 따라 음식을 먹기 전에 반드시 손을 깨끗이 씻었고
- 또 시장에서 돌아왔을 때에는 반드시 몸을 씻고 나서야 음식을 먹는 관습이 있었다. 그 밖에도 지켜야 할 관습이 많았는데 가령 잔이나 단지나 놋그릇 같은 것을 씻는 일들이 그것이었다.
- 그래서 바리사이파 사람들과 율법학자들은 예수께 "왜 당신의 제자들은 조상의 전통을 따르지 않고 부정한 손으로 음식을 먹습니까?" 하고 따졌다.

- He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
- Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
- For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
- And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
- For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:

- 예수께서는 그들에게 이렇게 대답하셨다. "이사야가 무어라고 예언했느냐? '이 백성이 입술로는 나를 공경하여도 마음은 나에게서 멀리 떠나 있구나.
- 그들은 나를 헛되이 예배하며 사람의 계명을 하느님의 것인 양 가르친다.' 했는데 이것은 바로 너희와 같은 위선자를 두고 한 말이다.
- 너희는 하느님의 계명은 버리고 사람의 전통을 고집하고 있다."
- 그리고 이어서 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "너희는 그 전통을 지킨다는 구실로 교묘하게 하느님의 계명을 어기고 있다.
- 모세가 '부모를 공경하여라.' 하였고 또 '아버지나 어머니를 욕하는 자는 반드시 사형을 받는다.' 하였는데

- But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
- And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
- Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
- And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:
- There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

- 너희는 누구든지 아버지나 어머니에게 '제가 해드려야 할 것을 하느님께 바쳤습니다.'라는 뜻으로 '코르반'이라고 한마디만 하면 된다고 하면서
- 자기 아버지나 어머니에게 아무것도 해드리지 못하게 하고 있으니
- 이것이 바로 전해 오는 전통을 핑계삼아 하느님의 말씀을 무시하는 일이 아니고 무엇이냐? 너희는 이 밖에도 그런 일을 많이 저지르고 있다."
- 예수께서 다시 사람들을 불러모으시고 이렇게 가르치셨다. "너희는 내 말을 새겨들어라.
- 무엇이든지 밖에서 몸 안으로 들어가는 것은 사람을 더럽히지 않는다. 더럽히는 것은 도리어 사람에게서 나오는 것이다."

- If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
- And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
- And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;
- Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?
- And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.

- 예수께서 군중을 떠나 집에 들어가셨을 때에 제자들이 그 비유의 뜻을 묻자
- 예수께서는 "너희도 이렇게 알아듣지를 못하느냐? 밖에서 몸 안으로 들어가는 것은 사람을 더럽히지 못한다는 것을 모르느냐?
- 모두 뱃속에 들어갔다가 그대로 뒤로 나가버리지 않느냐? 그것들은 마음속으로 파고들지는 못한다." 하시며 모든 음식은 다 깨끗하다고 하셨다.
- 그리고 다시 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "참으로 사람을 더럽히는 것은 사람에게서 나오는 것이다.

- For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
- Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
- All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

- 안에서 나오는 것은 곧 마음에서 나오는 것인데 음행, 도둑질, 살인,
- 간음, 탐욕, 악의, 사기, 방탕, 시기, 중상, 교만, 어리석음 같은 여러 가지 악한 생각들이다.
- 이런 악한 것들은 모두 안에서 나와 사람을 더럽힌다."
