- Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
- But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
- For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
- (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
- Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

- さて， あなたがたの 間で 面と 向かっては 弱腰だが， 離れていると 强硬な 態度に 出る， と 思われている， このわたし パウロ が， キリスト の 優しさと 心の 廣さとをもって， あなたがたに 願います．
- わたしたちのことを 肉に 從って 步んでいると 見なしている 者たちに 對しては， 勇敢に 立ち 向かうつもりです． わたしがそちらに 行くときには， そんな 强硬な 態度をとらずに 濟むようにと 願っています．
- わたしたちは 肉において 步んでいますが， 肉に 從って 戰うのではありません．
- わたしたちの 戰いの 武器は 肉のものではなく， 神に 由來する 力であって 要塞も 破壞するに 足ります． わたしたちは 理屈を 打ち 破り，
- 神の 知識に 逆らうあらゆる 高慢を 打ち 倒し， あらゆる 思惑をとりこにして キリスト に 從わせ，

- And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
- Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's.
- For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:
- That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.
- For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.

- また， あなたがたの 從順が 完全なものになるとき， すべての 不從順を 罰する 用意ができています．
- あなたがたは， うわべのことだけ 見ています． 自分が キリスト のものだと 信じきっている 人がいれば， その 人は， 自分と 同じくわたしたちも キリスト のものであることを， もう 一度考えてみるがよい．
- あなたがたを 打ち 倒すためではなく， 造り 上げるために 主がわたしたちに 授けてくださった 權威について， わたしがいささか 誇りすぎたとしても， 恥にはならないでしょう．
- わたしは 手紙であなたがたを 脅していると 思われたくない．
- わたしのことを， 「手紙は 重¿しく 力强いが， 實際に 會ってみると 弱¿しい 人で， 話もつまらない 」と 言う 者たちがいるからです．

- Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.
- For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
- But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.
- For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:
- Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,

- そのような 者は 心得ておくがよい． 離れていて 手紙で 書くわたしたちと， その 場に 居合わせてふるまうわたしたちとに 變わりはありません．
- わたしたちは， 自己推薦する 者たちと 自分を 同列に 置いたり， 比較したりしようなどとは 思いません． 彼らは 仲間どうしで 評價し 合い， 比較し 合っていますが， 愚かなことです．
- わたしたちは 限度を 超えては 誇らず， 神が 割り 當ててくださった 範圍內で 誇る， つまり， あなたがたのところまで 行ったということで 誇るのです．
- わたしたちは， あなたがたのところまでは 行かなかったかのように， 限度を 超えようとしているのではありません． 實際， わたしたちは キリスト の 福音を 携えてだれよりも 先にあなたがたのもとを 訪れたのです．
- わたしたちは， 他人の 勞苦の 結果を 限度を 超えて 誇るようなことはしません． ただ， わたしたちが 希望しているのは， あなたがたの 信仰が 成長し， あなたがたの 間でわたしたちの ¿きが 定められた 範圍內でますます 增大すること，

- To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand.
- But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
- For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

- あなたがたを 越えた 他の 地域にまで 福音が 告げ 知らされるようになること， わたしたちが 他の 人¿の 領域で 成し 遂げられた 活動を 誇らないことです．
- 「誇る 者は 主を 誇れ． 」
- 自己推薦する 者ではなく， 主から 推薦される 人こそ， 適格者として 受け 入れられるのです．
