- こののち， ユダヤ 人の 祭があったので， イエス は エルサレム に 上られた．
- エルサレム にある 羊の 門のそばに， ヘブル 語で ベテスダ と 呼ばれる 池があった． そこには 五つの 廊があった．
- その 廊の 中には， 病人， 盲人， 足なえ， やせ 衰えた 者などが， 大ぜいからだを 橫たえていた． 〔彼らは 水の 動くのを 待っていたのである．
- それは， 時¿， 主の 御使がこの 池に 降りてきて 水を 動かすことがあるが， 水が 動いた 時まっ 先にはいる 者は， どんな 病氣にかかっていても， いやされたからである． 〕
- さて， そこに 三十八年のあいだ， 病氣に 惱んでいる 人があった．

- Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a feast of the Jews.
- Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades.
- Here a great number of disabled people used to lie--the blind, the lame, the paralyzed.

- One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.

- イエス はその 人が 橫になっているのを 見， また 長い 間わずらっていたのを 知って， その 人に「なおりたいのか 」と 言われた．
- この 病人は イエス に 答えた， 「主よ， 水が 動く 時に， わたしを 池の 中に 入れてくれる 人がいません． わたしがはいりかけると， ほかの 人が 先に 降りて 行くのです 」．
- イエス は 彼に 言われた， 「起きて， あなたの 床を 取りあげ， そして 步きなさい 」．
- すると， この 人はすぐにいやされ， 床をとりあげて 步いて 行った． その 日は 安息日であった．
- そこで ユダヤ 人たちは， そのいやされた 人に 言った， 「きょうは 安息日だ． 床を 取りあげるのは， よろしくない 」．

- When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?"
- "Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me."
- Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk."
- At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked. The day on which this took place was a Sabbath,
- and so the Jews said to the man who had been healed, "It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat."

- 彼は 答えた， 「わたしをなおして 下さったかたが， 床を 取りあげて 步けと， わたしに 言われました 」．
- 彼らは 尋ねた， 「取りあげて 步けと 言った 人は， だれか 」．
- しかし， このいやされた 人は， それがだれであるか 知らなかった． 群衆がその 場にいたので， イエス はそっと 出て 行かれたからである．
- そののち， イエス は 宮でその 人に 出會ったので， 彼に 言われた， 「ごらん， あなたはよくなった． もう 罪を 犯してはいけない． 何かもっと 惡いことが， あなたの 身に 起るかも 知れないから 」．
- 彼は 出て 行って， 自分をいやしたのは イエス であったと， ユダヤ 人たちに 告げた．

- But he replied, "The man who made me well said to me, 'Pick up your mat and walk.' "
- So they asked him, "Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk?"
- The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.
- Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you."
- The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

- そのため ユダヤ 人たちは， 安息日にこのようなことをしたと 言って， イエス を 責めた．
- そこで， イエス は 彼らに 答えられた， 「わたしの 父は 今に 至るまで ¿いておられる． わたしも ¿くのである 」．
- このために ユダヤ 人たちは， ますます イエス を 殺そうと 計るようになった． それは， イエス が 安息日を 破られたばかりではなく， 神を 自分の 父と 呼んで， 自分を 神と 等しいものとされたからである．

- So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews persecuted him.
- Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working."
- For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
