- わたしたちが ロ ― マ に 着いた 後， パウロ は， ひとりの 番兵をつけられ， ひとりで 住むことを 許された．
- 三日たってから， パウロ は， 重立った ユダヤ 人たちを 招いた． みんなの 者が 集まったとき， 彼らに 言った， 「兄弟たちよ， わたしは， わが 國民に 對しても， あるいは 先祖傳來の 慣例に 對しても， 何一つそむく 行爲がなかったのに， エルサレム で 囚人として ロ ― マ 人たちの 手に 引き 渡された．
- 彼らはわたしを 取り 調べた 結果， なんら 死に 當る 罪狀もないので， わたしを 釋放しようと 思ったのであるが，
- ユダヤ 人たちがこれに 反對したため， わたしはやむを 得ず， カイザル に 上訴するに 至ったのである． しかしわたしは， わが 同胞を 訴えようなどとしているのではない．
- こういうわけで， あなたがたに 會って 語り 合いたいと 願っていた． 事實， わたしは， イスラエル のいだいている 希望のゆえに， この 鎖につながれているのである 」．

- And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.
- And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
- Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.
- But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.
- For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

- そこで 彼らは， パウロ に 言った， 「わたしたちは， ユダヤ 人たちから， あなたについて， なんの 文書も 受け 取っていないし， また， 兄弟たちの 中からここにきて， あなたについて 不利な 報告をしたり， 惡口を 言ったりした 者もなかった．
- わたしたちは， あなたの 考えていることを， 直接あなたから 聞くのが， 正しいことだと 思っている． 實は， この 宗派については， いたるところで 反對のあることが， わたしたちの 耳にもはいっている 」．
- そこで， 日を 定めて， 大ぜいの 人が， パウロ の 宿につめかけてきたので， 朝から 晩まで， パウロ は 語り 續け， 神の 國のことをあかしし， また モ ― セ の 律法や 預言者の 書を 引いて， イエス について 彼らの 說得につとめた．
- ある 者は パウロ の 言うことを 受けいれ， ある 者は 信じようともしなかった．
- 互に 意見が 合わなくて， みんなの 者が 歸ろうとしていた 時， パウロ はひとこと 述べて 言った， 「聖靈はよくも 預言者 イザヤ によって， あなたがたの 先祖に 語ったものである．

- And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judaea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.
- But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
- And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
- And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
- And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

- 『この 民に 行って 言え， ／あなたがたは 聞くには 聞くが， 決して 悟らない． 見るには 見るが， 決して 認めない．
- この 民の 心は 鈍くなり， ／その 耳は 聞えにくく， ／その 目は 閉じている． それは， 彼らが 目で 見ず， ／耳で 聞かず， ／心で 悟らず， 悔い 改めて ／いやされることがないためである 』．
- そこで， あなたがたは 知っておくがよい． 神のこの 救の 言葉は， 異邦人に 送られたのだ． 彼らは， これに 聞きしたがうであろう 」．
- 〔パウロ がこれらのことを 述べ 終ると， ユダヤ 人らは， 互に 論じ 合いながら 歸って 行った． 〕
- パウロ は， 自分の 借りた 家に 滿二年のあいだ 住んで， たずねて 來る 人¿をみな 迎え 入れ，

- Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:
- For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
- Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
- And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.
- And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

- はばからず， また 妨げられることもなく， 神の 國を 宣べ 傳え， 主 イエス · キリスト のことを 敎えつづけた．

- Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
